~ luna*tic12 ~ok .. here goes ..
step 1 .. learn the symbols to the signs and planets
* http://www.happydragon.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/jkbx/Symbols.html *
note that Pluto has two symbols in use ..
**at astro.com .. it is the one that looks like a " P " with a tail at the base ..
**at astro.com .. Lillith looks like a small moon symbol with a cross at the base ..
on some charts it could look like a black moon ..
on my system .. due to the black background .. i color it white ..
( on the Symbols.html .. also .. the Pluto symbol on that page .. is the alternative one ) )
step 2 .. learn the distance between two positions .. in degrees ..
that determine what type of aspect it is ..
* http://www.happydragon.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/jkbx/Intro.to.aspects.html *
see the aspect pics on that page ( don't worry about the rest ) ..
also note the fact aspects have 'orbs' (also on the page ) ..
e.g an 'orb' of 6 degrees equals .. is 3 degrees either side of 'exact' ..
'exact' being the number of degrees for any given aspect ..
there are only 5 major aspects to remember .. all are on that page ..
to quikly see the major aspects on a chart wheel ..
you can think in terms of 'sign sectors' .. ( not talking about 'house' sectors )
as in ' being able to spot the aspects' ..
it works like this ..
there are 360 degrees to a circle ..
each degree is one of those itty bitty marks on the wheel ..
the next biggest mark are groups of 5 degrees ..
the next biggest mark are 10 degrees ..
and the marks that cross the entire 'ring' are the ones that boundry the 'sign sectors'
those are 30 degrees each ..
12 signs .. 30 degrees each .. equals a total of 360 degrees .. the full circle ..
the degrees are counted *Counter Clockwise ..
so starting at Aries .. it goes ..
0 till 29 degrees Aries ..
0 till 29 degrees Taurus ..
0 till 29 degrees Gemini ..
and so on and so forth .. till you end up at 29 degrees Pisces ..
and start all over again ..
Transit aspects .. are the distance .. in degrees .. between ..
Planets on the Outer Ring ( the transiting planets ) .. and
Planets on the Inner Ring ( the natal planets ) ..
so for .. e.g .. 'square' aspect .. the distance equals 3 'sign sectors' .. 90 degrees
for a 'sextile' it equals 2 'sign sectors' .. 60 degrees
for a 'trine' it equals 4 'sign sectors' .. 120 degrees
for an 'opposition' it equals 6 'sign sectors' .. 180 degrees
for a 'conjunction' .. the two positions are the same .. 0 degrees
remember that the Transiting Planets move *Counter Clockwise when 'Direct' ..
and .. *Clockwise when 'Retrograde' ..
regarding the astro.com chart pics ..
it is also important to check the degrees noted in the Grid ..
the Green colored degrees and symbols are the Transiting positions ..
and are written in 'degrees' ( the first two numbers pre the sign symbol ) ..
and 'minutes' ( the two numbers after the sign symbol )
there are 60 'minutes' within 1 'degree .. ( so 30 minutes is basicly half a degree )
why i say it's important to note the Grid degrees is that ..
sometimes it's difficult to see .. on the ring .. exactly where the planet sits ..
e.g. when a bunch of planet symbols are very close together .. or ..
the planet symbol is very close to one of the 'angles' ( the ascendant/descendant and MC/IC axis )
in these cases the display software can nudge a symbol in order for it to be visualy clear ..
and the marks showing exactly where the planet sits can be hard to see ..
( especially when someone posts a small chart image .. a magnifying glass would come in handy )
.. hard to read .. usually means no one will bother to look at it ..
the Aspect Symbols in the astro.com chart grid .. are Natal aspects .. ( not Transit aspects )
now .. see if you can spot transiting Pluto .. :-)
the "P" symbol at the end of Sagittarius .. outer ring .. bottom right ..
squaring natal Mars in Pisces .. the circle with an arrow on top .. inner ring .. top right
as to how the planets move ..
i.e. how long it takes each one to complete the full zodiac circle ( one cycle )
you can find at the main LL transit thread Link .. on the main page ..
e.g .. Saturn takes 28 years .. etc etc ..
you might find it easier to print out the chart and use a pencil to mark the positions ..
the you can easily count up the degrees between any two given positions ..
hope that was of some help ..
if it's still unclear .. not to worry ..
just ask and i will try and clear up any queries ..
