Which house system is used more often or more potent?
I am torn between the houses, seeing that I cannot figure out which suits me the most, concerning my natal chart.
I know there are more house systems, but these two seem to be used more often

Placidus over equal, I think. Koch is pretty good.

Its complex and requires some understanding for a lot of people. Take a look here, which describes the different systems.
http://www.geocities.com/astrologyhouses/housesystems.htm

But genuflect, please: what did the ancients do? Before the advent of modern times, they had to measure the hours using droplets of water. They didnt have the super accuracy we have today but their charts were entirely valid.
Furthermore, the ancients didnt even bother with house systems...the wise men, those who came to Bethlehem from Heliopolis, and their contemporaries, didnt even bother using a degree for the ascendant. You just had X sign rising, and it didnt matter what part of it. This is now called "whole sign division".
The key to understanding the development of these systems lies in understanding how our perception of time has changed over the centuries. As smaller and smaller units of time (minutes, seconds, nano seconds, etc) have been measured by more and more accurate time machines, we have become more and more obssessed with more detailed methods.
But the old ways still work...
If you want to know as far back as possible where this all began, you must go back to ancient Egypt and observe the ritual ceremonies that honoured the daily passage of the Sun. Thats where the codified houses we know today, and their meanings, originated.

How do you decide which one is better?

The age old question, "How do you decide which house system is better?"

No one knows. No one.

Generally, placidus or koch is used and you see which one fits you best. Most astrologers have a preference for one and they stick to that particular system.

When I use koch, my venus moves to my 7th house. I usually just use placidus, but I think I may play around with Koch to see what happens with my aspects.
