I've noticed that on a number of threads, when someone asks a question e.g. what your favorite sign, who don’t you get on with etc.... a lot of people just list the signs without elaborating. This is cool for people who are gathering empirical data, but it doesn’t help newbies much. This is a fantastic forum & I've learned a lot from people on here.
It would be really helpful if people were to elaborate (even if it just 2 words) when there's a list type post.

Thanks,

Deli

Hi Deli ~

Those "who's your favorite/non-favorite sign" etc posts really bug me. As if you could either automatically love or hate or distrust (or whatever) 1/12th of the world's population because of their Sun sign :\

It's the nature of humans to label something and put it in a box, but to believe that people could actually be divided into 12 immutable types is mind-bogglingly simplistic, imho..... People are not planets, nor are they constellations in our galaxy -- we are much more complex than that, and I find it mildly insulting to be so narrowly and shallowly defined.

Yes, I agree with your asking for more info, and digging deeper for understanding (do you have Mercury or other planets in Scorpio??)

**Rant Over**

agreed with what Zala said. Those kind of threads should be in the Free for All board. There are lot of threads appearing on various boards, which do not have any connection with the board as such.

It is good to have some sensibility while posting.

** .. e.g. what your favorite sign, who don’t you get on with etc... **
maybe it's just their way of socialising .. like 'what sort of music do ya like ' etc ..
.. plus possibly being new to astrology ..

then again .. that twat that started 'does astrology have any scientific basis' thread ..
their whole contribution to the thread was just the word ... " well ? " ..
( finger tapping impatiently on desktop )
so someone just starting something in an attempt to cause a stir ..
'cause they never did come back into the thread they started ..

** .. t is good to have some sensibility while posting. **
i've come to the opposite conclusion .. i'm tired of 'sensibility' ..
i'm starting to develop troll features .. trolls have more fun ..
blonde trolls have even more fun ..

it's quite easy Not to clik on a thread link ..
( an Amazing but True fact .. unless one just HAS to clik on a thread link
( then maybe it's time to vist the shrink

i doubt that server disc space is a problem these days ..

and .. i hope this place doesn't get as stuffy as the astro.com forum ..

HD At Home in the Garden:

A REAL Troll from the city of my youth
I'm going to let you in on a little Seattle secret...there's a MONSTER under the bridge! The Fremont troll has been devouring this Volkswagen (a real one!) under the north end of the bridge since circa 1990. I wonder how many thousands of people have zipped across and never knew he was there!

Nice trolls!

erm....Ok,

Happy Dragon,

"** .. e.g. what your favorite sign, who don’t you get on with etc... **
maybe it's just their way of socialising .. like 'what sort of music do ya like ' etc ..
.. plus possibly being new to astrology .."

the point I was trying to get at is about eleborating on posts not the censorship of such posts.

Have a look at the topic "favourite & least favorite aspects" I personally find that the most useful posts on there are the one where the people explain why, rather than just having lists of aspects.

~ D ~

there's a whole bunch to take into consideration when reading posts ..
or .. asking questions about personal astrology on a 'free for all' type astro forum

as far as lists without elaborations ..
well maybe the kf simply doesn't have the astrology knowledge to do so ..
many of those answers in "favourite & least favorite aspects" basicly state ..
i don't like the 'harsh' aspects but the 'easy going' aspects are cool ..

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
one post 'type' example ..
knowflake posts a query ..
no one answers ..
knowflake gets upset assuming they are being ignored ..
does knowflake think that .. just maybe .. no one knows the answer ? .. hence no response ?
or that .. to answer 'properly' would take a lot of time and chart research ..
( e.g .. yeah sure i'll put life on hold 'n sit and spend a few hours on this .. )
many queries seem to require a whole 'intro to astrology course'
i.e. before the kf would have understanding of an answer ..
and it gets repeated .. like a treadmill ..
e.g. kf keeps asking why their life is a mess .. keeps posting charts ..
seemingly learning f'all from any answers .. and .. keeps expecting other people to do their research
'cause seemingly some kf's think that at the other end of their computer
are a bunch of astrologers sitting around in an office called 'lindaland plc.'
tapping their fingers impatiently just waiting to answer 'all about my astrology chart questions'
.. all free of charge of course ..
and they are all using the very latest ultra fast computers
with multi-ultra speedy web transmission .. the 'broadband of broadbands'
as far as 'learning about astrology' .. apart from going on a course ..
is .. obtain a good reference book .. or two ..
subscribe to a good astrology magazine .. e.g 'horoscope'
( to where you'd probably find the right answers to this
( ~ http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/014493.html ~
( and .. written by someone who gets paid for their research .. their writing ..
( their time .. and experience .. etc etc ..
understand the mechanics of 'transits' .. ie. how the planets make aspects as they move ..
how 'retrograde' movement works with regards to transits ...
then **'observe'** .. i.e take note of birth details .. do a chart ..
read the 'my love life is the pits' .. ( or whatever the situation might be )
then look at the transits to that chart ..
sooner or later you'll see repeated patterns ..
e.g. .. when folk fall out with each other here ..
transiting Chiron shows up time and time again .. as does transiting Lillith ..
you can just about bet your last dollar that if someone posts a 'serious long term situation ' ..
that .. they will be experiencing a transit from one of the outer planets to one of their personal planets or angles
i.e. the ascendant/descendant and mc/ic
.. and if a kf is fishing for answers ..
what happens if the astrological answer is wrong ???
the querant could easily come to the wrong conclusion ..
for astrology queries .. look for a reliable source ..
books written by ppl who have spent years observing and researching ..
and who have a *creditable reputation* ..
e.g. i got some 'astrologer' .. who used to post on this site .. to look at my chart ..
they were about 50 percent right .. the 'wrongs' were a million miles off ..
i think the practise of astrolgy should be regulated ..
( like the medical profession for example )
only then will it get the credibilty it deserves ..
Again - all I'm saying is this - its more valuable to say - I hate Mars square Moon coz it makes me impulsive & irratible than to say I hate Mars square Moon, or else what the point in saying it? To collect data?
Yes Deli, it is more valuable for those who are seriously interested in learning for posters to explain "Why" they feel the way they do, instead of just weighing in with their 'yea' or 'nay' just to be noticed as part of the discussion
I have a semantics problem with the "Mars sq Moon makes me irritable etc" kind of statement..... My thought is that orbiting balls of rock and gas don't make me do anything -- they might *contribute* to my feelings, but I'm the one who owns my feelings and my decisions/choices; but I still have to work on not projecting them off onto any other entity as an excuse.
HD is right, sometimes the discussion topic may be too broad for a quick answer, or one would have to spend a lot of time gathering info for a complete answer -- and many of us have very full private lives.....
**I'm not sure how this is relevant, If it irritates you when people do that (is that what your saying?) **
~~
mmmm .. uh .. it's not so much people .. but the nature of internet communication ..
btw: don't take any of that on last post personaly .. :-) ..
i probably meant to say some of that .. well at least about june 2005 .. ;-)
it's just the way of the internet that sometimes irritates moi .. LL is the first forum in my web experience ..
and i fell foul of my own preconceptions at first . . ( still do .. now and again )
and found myself reading posts the wrong way .. now and again . . 'pre-judgement' if you like .. or maybe 'fault finding ' in others ..
i do beleive it's part of Saturn opposing Venus in my chart .. which in itself is part of a larger 'harsh' configuration ..
anyhow .. i then started to ask myself why that was the case .. and figured due to 'text' communication
.. with no facial / tone of voice / look in eyes / body language .. that .. i might be sub-consciously super-imposing my own personality onto the replies ..
i.e. in my head .. .. cause there's no other reference to speak of .. .. sometimes now i start to think in sign terms ..
i.e. if someone is sign X .. then i'll think of a friend who is also sun sign X .. and .. try to look at the post thru astrological sign values ..
( it's mainly Liz Greenes' books / sign interpretations ) .. so far it's seems to help .. sometimes later i found this site ..
~ http://www.rider.edu/~suler/psycyber/psytextrel.html ~ which sort of explained it all .. ;-)
~~
as for 'irritations' regarding astrology queries .. well ... mmmmmm .. er ... i'll tackle that one after dinner .. maybe ..
or at least try to get something typed out .. i.e. without coming across like a bull in a china shop ..
again it's mainly down to 'internet' communication .. and what i see as others misconceptions about astrology ..
( it's not a black and white issue .. be lots of shades of grey in between )
~~
**I have lots of astrology books ( I'm actually selling some at the mo, ** etc ) **
oooh nooooo .. sell them ?? .. .. you might be sorry later .. :-)(-:
i've always envisioned an astrologers' office .. somewhat like a doctors or lawyers office .. well some of them ..
shelves of reference books .. varied opinions and observations .. case histories etc etc ..
~
~
~ N ~ .. ~ Z ~ : .. thoughts re astro commission anon .. :-)
Well Zala the Moke's in charge of that fiasco..... grinds heel on imaginary Moke Heads, tosses curls... Are the exact opposite of the Goddess astrology begun in the 1800's. Sire is Eris. So, yes Sire, we shall call Xena- Eris. And Pluto being out of round? Or size challenged? Everybody knows it's the featherweight boxers you got ta keep your eye on!
