i really wish that people would take the time to realize that the time you were born is like 10000000000 more times powerful then your sun sign any questions, anybody wanna fight?? just joking. But please take this major flaw and trend(virus) and try to use facts to simply correct and enlighten the issue Thanks...

Sure:

Rising signs is the mask you wear; the supposable front you provide to people. So even though its what people see, its what people precieve you are .

Example:

I am a Leo rising. What's the first impression people get of me? Overconfident, Self-absorbed, and wayyy too expressive Lol!

I tend to see my rising sign as a shield; It naturally removes all the short sighted people away and allows those who want to look beyond the cover to come in the inner circle of Xie's friendship Lol!

Hmmm... Its no surprise that Scorpios appel to me so much.

I think thats quite an exaggeration, but I would agree that most astrologers underestimate the importance of the Angles; - not just the Ascendant, but the Midheaven as well (I would imagine that aspects to the MC are even more personal than aspects to the Sun and Moon). After all, these points, like the Moon, move quickly, and their placement, along with any aspects to them, will naturally be HIGHLY personal.

But remember, just as the Sun stays in the same sign for 30 days out of a year (and doesnt return for the rest of the year), each sign passes over the Ascendant in every 24 hour period - so, a person is born every single day (or night) with a Capricorn Ascendant, whereas, there are only 30 days out of the whole year in which a person is born with the Sun in that sign. Which is more common may be worked out by the mathematicians out there, but it would appear that the chances of having your Sun or Ascendant in Capricorn, respectively, are equal at approximately 12 to 1.

What a smart astrologer does is consider the combination of Sun, Moon, and Ascendant as a whole. The number of people sharing your Sun, Moon, and Ascendant combination is much smaller than the number of people sharing any of them separately. Simplifying any more than this only makes possible very general statements about a person. And its important to remember that anything we can say about a single placement (be it Sun, Moon, Ascendant, Part of Spirit, or whatever) is only a starting point in the greater process of chart interpretation.

Patrick: we are a combination of sun, moon and ASC. people see our ASC first but thats our mask...as they say. not our trueselves...I know you understand that & most of us know its pretty powerful.

I don't think the Rising sign is more powerful...maybe more *personal* would be the better word here.

HSC hit the ball right out of the park. There are so many elements inlvolved in interperting a personality and it also comes down to dominant elements in a person's chart as well as aspects; i.e. Those with a huge amount of fire placements in their charts are naturally more individual minded and self-oriented then those who may happen to have water element as the dominating factor in their chart.

Alanabelle:

Lol! The feeling's mutual babe .

Patrick:

Actually Libra Sun here . Yeah I Venus influenced guy Lol!

The Ascendant is much more than a "mask". I know this is the popular conception of what an Ascendant is, but many distinguished astrologers take exception to this so-called rule. The Ascendant is a complex part of your chart, largely determining your life path. It is how you approach the world.. and there is a lot of significance in that. Unless you are a total phony, the "mask" you wear is going to say a heck of a lot about who you really are as a person. And remember, the signs on the cusps of all the other houses, and the houses your planets (including your Sun and Moon) are in, is basically determined by the sign on the cusp of the 1st house.

I don't think ya'll have absorbed the info that i am communicating in regards to astrology, if you look at the science of it the rising sign, time of birth, is really like at least 360 times more powerful then the sun, even I fell into the trap of sun signs in the beginning but after further inqueiries(or however you spell it) I realized that looking into my rising sign I found so much more about myself. I should get paid. Just joking too nice...

Yes but IMO its still a shield; a protection of sorts to help a person get ahead in his/her selective field of opportunities and situations. However, it still fails to cover a person's inner principals and reasons as to what they want to accoplish.

I see the ascendent as a battle tactic and the Sun and the moon as the overall strategy.

Good point.

And the same may be said of the Modes (cardinal, fixed, and mutable).

Thats interesting, Xodian.
And I guess you are right.

But I'm reminded of what the great poets have said...

That philosophy and poetry are not distinct,
and how you say something is not to be divested
from what you are trying to say.

So, the tactics are not entirely distinct from the goal,
and the means are not entirely distinct from the ends.

How you fight says a lot about what you are fighting for.

If that makes sense.

The AC is very much how we see the world. It's the world through our eyes. It is representative of the SELF. Therefore if you were to ask a person to define themselves and their character, they'll most likely describe characteristics that correlate with the AC sign and it's ruler.

In this regard, it is more personal and more powerful than the sun sign, when you take just that into consideration.

I once described it as our "skin" protecting all of our vital organs buried deep within (Sun, Moon, Mercury, etc.) The skin being the most obvious organ, the largest and most conspicuous, also what we've come to define ourselves through (race, skin color), thus the AC can be argued to be the most important aspect of the chart. (aspects included). Hell, ALL of the angles are.

If the chart represents our inner energies, battles, and potential...the Angles are like our hands. How we touch, experience, sense, perceive, and choose to share and express those inner qualities to the outside world.

However, don't demote the Sun sign in importance either. Like the heart in which it rules, it's function is vitally (no pun intented) important to human psychology development (in an astrological sense). The ego, the conscious, the vitality, the will and motivation. How we identify with our purpose and how we choose to express our most creative potential...

Doesn't sound like it wants to take a backseat to me!

HSC:

Yes but notice that its still dictates your choice of front you use to confront life. However it doesn't show WHY you choose to use that front or what is your accomplishing goal in the end.

I tend to use one of my most fav. mythological characters as an example. I know that everyone has heard of Achillies and the tragedy that befell that Hero. All his life he was confronted with violence and death so he ends up becomming a great warrior to help him fulfill his goals. However, ironically, if you read the Illiad, you'll notice that he is so sick and tired of War and Violence and the stupidity of soldiers who follow orders and die on command for incompetent kings.

Yes he was Vengeful and arrogant but he wasn't a heartless killer .

So there is always method in madness .
