Topic: maybe a dumb question about interpreting synastry aspects..?

but can you just use transit definitions basically? so like, jupiter transiting the sun would read as the energy of jupiter transiting is actually the energy of the person who's jupiter aspects the other's sun, but more permanently (or, when together?). is this doable? would there be exceptions?IP: Logged |

no not really,
Transiting Jupiter conjunct the Sun is different than the Sun conjunct Jupiter (in the natal) or even His/Sun conjunct Your/Jupiter.by transit it's an energy (sets the tone)
in the natal it's a personality trait
and in comparisons it's a reaction from one to the other. IP: Logged |

thanks lalalinda!i though i heard somewhere that having a person around with planets in aspect to you was sort of like having the energy of the transit when that person is around.. but maybe i just thought of that myself.. IP: Logged |

From where I can see you two are talking about the same thing (but probably just express it in different ways). I would rephrase it in my own words like this: when a transit planet A forms an aspect with a natal planet B, planet A activates/awakens that natal planet B, forces planet B to express its energy. Similarly, if person X with natal planet A forminging an aspect with person Y’s natal planet B, then when the two persons are around each other => X’s A is activated by Y’s B and vice versa. This may mean two things 1) X will reacts to Y using (or in the way of) A energy whenever Y expresses B energy and vice versa, and 2) when X and Y are around each other, X’s A energy and Y’s B energy are probably “active” more often because these planets that form the cross aspect between them will activate each other – in this sense when one person is around the other it’s like some sort of “having the energy of the transit”. About whether that activation is permanent or avoidable - my guess is that when there is such a cross-chart (synastry) aspect, the energIES of those aspected planets just "catch" each other so I used the words "active more often". Then, as we always said people have free will - the two persons can adjust themselves, act more consciously for example to allivate the impact of the tough synastry aspects - however I think this will be like we go against the strong wind - it doesn't mean impossible, it just means difficult!
