Pluto Conjunct Asc

Born as the planet Pluto rose in the east, you are strongly identified with it and serve symbolically as its ambassador and representative of its vibration on earth. Thus you act as an agent of change, evolution, and personal transformation in your environment. Your sense of who you are is constantly undergoing such transformation as well, and your life is filled with drastic endings and sudden new beginnings.

In this incarnation you are learning to master and control the emotions and the primitive drives within you that, left unconscious, control and direct human life. You are shining light into your depths to become more conscious of who you are as an individual. This is your hero's journey; you're alone in this process, and therefore have a great need for seclusion. Don't mistake your need for self-mastery and control for your obvious ability to control others.

You are embarking on a new evolutionary cycle, and feel as if you have a special destiny to fulfill. You also feel that it's necessary to have the freedom and independence for any and all experiences that might enable you to discover and know something about yourself that you didn't know before. It could be waiting around any corner at any moment, and you must be free enough to have or to be had by the experience entirely. Since much of this process is instinctual, it is important to become conscious of obsessive behavior in this regard, as well as of projecting your anger and frustration upon those who appear to be restricting you.

An inherent leader, you're intense, magnetic, strong willed, have a penetrating gaze and defy arbitrary authority. Although you have a very strong physical body, you project an obvious sense of vulnerability. You're hard to get to know deeply, and are passionate, insistent, and direct.
One of Pluto's symbols is the legendary Phoenix bird, reborn once a century out of the flames of its funeral pyre. Your personality is under a similar, constant evolutionary pressure to die and be reborn. If this process is blocked or avoided, tremendous pressure is built up within you that must be released at all cost. Because of this and a tendency to compulsive and obsessive behavior, a non-analytic, emotionally or physically based psychotherapy can be an excellent release and form of growth for you. Once you learn to balance and integrate your own internal energies, you could make an excellent psychotherapist yourself if you were so inclined.

Thanks guys! But that's what I don't get, it doesn't really fit me. I'm obsessive but not to the point it gets in the way of normal activity. It's a pretty healthy obsession (if there's such a thing). I'm not controlling or power hungry. I can't make sense of my Pluto. I'm not as intense as all the descriptions make me out to be.

I don't think of Pluto as the obsessive, violent planet as much as "what's in our deep layers" - how are we balanced physically, mentally and spiritually, and how that balance creates sincerity. With the conjunction with your Ascendant, you aren't going to see negative manifestations of deep psychological nature unless you are unbalanced as a person. If you allow yourself to become unbalanced, then Pluto is going to smack you upside the head with something like an obsessive disorder, etc. Otherwise, you will be a well-functioning, non-violent person who is extremely perceptive.

Thanks Astra, it's such a "dark" planet it scares me. Sometimes I feel like it's just a huge mistake its on my ascendant. Everything I've read says, "be careful, don't abuse your power!"

I think aspects of the above description might be true with pluto conjunct sun or moon but it is part of a major trend in contemporary astrology to overinterpret the ASC and the angles in general. The ASC is just the front door. It is not the house. It is appearances and the manner, body language we use to convey ourselves. It does not relate to deep internal dynamics and it does not describe our personality.

Leocat - there may be something plutonian about your presentation but thats about it. Your lack of identification with the above description of pluto conjunct the ASC makes alot of sense. It is inaccurate and overinterpreted.

I too have Pluto in Scorpio in the first house. It also squares my Mars in Leo. I am not violent person but I have very strong views of society, my own lifestyle, the company I keep and life it self. I am very spiritual but am personally against religion. Understanding the human condition is something that very much fascinates me.. so much that I am in my third year as a social work major where my focus is drug rehabilitation and women in prison.

I wouldn't think of my placements which you share (Pluto in first) as something negative or might foreshadow someone of aggression maybe more of a psyche that is concerned with understanding and analyzing things more so than the average.
I like my Pluto’s placement and the fact it trines my Venus and Mercury which are both in the ninth house. But I admit I often find myself at odds with people and situations because of my strong opinions and ideals. I also have obsessive tendencies with work, cleaning, eating and my lifestyle. I am a perfectionist sometimes to a fault.

I think mars square pluto is much more the issue than pluto square ASC which I think is not an aspect. Mars/pluto can be intensely driven and anger prone when goals are interferred with.

Pluto is intense and very psychological. Its about uncovering dynamics. The ASC is our very external, almost instinctual behaviors. The most surface and superficial aspect of ourselves. Pluto conjunct the ASC might about understanding what underlies our way of relating to people we are only aquainted with and causing it to change, evolve and grow. I currently have pluto transiting my first house and that seems to be how it is working for me. It is less concerned about deep and long term relationships. Its about the quick meeting and asking, what am I conveying and why? I would think the same for someone with pluto conjunct the ASC.

I dont think pluto conjunct the ASC is as intense as pluto in aspect to a planet like the sun or moon. At the end of the day - the ASC is just a house cusp.

i know someone with pluto in the 1st (not conjunct asc) and this is what i experience of her:

she picks up peoples' emotions as though they are her own, and they effect her strongly. she seems to recognize they are not her own (unlike pisces) and she gets very aggitated until they are able to be resolved. i feel like she is a psychic cleaning lady. she finds the dirt, the problem, the pain, and transforms it into something happy.

edit: also, she can't seem to help it, it just happens. and she must, compulsively, transform it or have other people deal with their issue or she just goes on feeling it and feeling horrible. it is pretty intense. but fortunately she is very good at helping people and brings meaningful emotions to the surface as well.

do you relate to any of this?

I Leo Cat. My pluto is in my 12th house in the sign of Libra. My ascendant is Libra and rules my first house. I can relate somewhat to Heart Cakes friend in the sense that other's emotions/moods affect me very strongly too.

I pick up on people's emotions very quickly. I feel the whole bad vibe/good vibe thing from people. I can also feel body heat according to one's temper level. I hope I'm not sounding weird. I'm not psychic at all. I'm just hypersensitive to others moods.

Heart Cakes - your description of your friend is interesting. I relate a bit. I have pluto trine moon and I have seen similar behavior - the need to offer therapy and psychological insight and aid somewhat compuslively to friends and aquaintences. It does not have to manifest in an annoying and intrusive way. I would look at what other aspect in her chart that point to that behavior. Its also a strong 6th house/virgo issue. Pluto would just give it an intensity, depth and possibly compulsiveness.
