From journalism to astrology!

Just kidding... I wish.

Anyways, it's strange because I've been wanting to study journalism for years now. I mean- since I was in the 6th grade. It was two weeks ago where I out of the blue just wanted to change majors.

I love to write and I've been told that I'm good at what I do. Journalism just doesn't make me happy anymore. What I had wanted to do was study Journalism and then go on to get a Masters in International Journalism. It wasn't until I started taking more intensive writing courses that I realized that writing itself just doesn't make me happy. Journalism itself and the media just... **** ME OFF.

I have no idea what sparked this sudden change of heart. I don't usually follow y impulses this thoroughly. Then again, my impulses don't usually affect any major part of my life.

I switched to Cultural Studies and I have Journalism as a minor. I now want to do international volunteer work at first so I can eventually work on the administrative level of perhaps UNICEF. I really want to go straight to the Peace Corps. They're a great step to take if you're not eligible to join UNICEF yet. Peace Corps is still slightly difficult to get excepted by, but I'm working my butt off to get there.

FYI After your two year tour with Peace Corps, you're done. And they forgive you of any Stafford Loans. It's a great thing: you get to see the world and make a difference to someone (ANYONE) in the world, AND the government forgives you off all your college debt.

So... that's what I did. I switched and now I feel.... nervous. This is something new (I had planned my entire college career for Journalism) and I don't know what to really expect if my plans fail me. I mean- with Journalism I can always teach if I didn't want to freelance/copy edit anymore...

This is a good nervous.... but I'm still nervous. Not unsure about what I want... but I dunno... I suppose I need some reassurance. It doesn't help that I haven't old my mom and dad yet, lol. They sent me to college thinking that I would change my mind about Journalism and they were right. I just didn't decide to become a doctor or a lawyer. :\

I've been looking at my chart over and over and it makes some sense that I would do this. Gemini Mercury conj Venus in the 9th House, Pisces Mars conj 6th House...

I'm not very good with transits, so can someone take a look at mine, maybe figure out why this abrupt urge to change everything has suddenly sparked something in me.

Any support would be nice too
Thanks!

I'm sure everything will be fine... hopefully...

tPluto and tJupiter are conjunct your uranus. The pluto is a big deal.It is also conjunct your nSaturn. It means big changes in your values, etc. Look up tPluto conjunct nUranus in google. Uranus is out of the blue lightening change.

Saturn in transiting your 11th house of hopes and wishes; so it is restructuring these to something more in line with reality.

Mars is about to cross your MC. Mars = action, MC = your persona, public image, goals, and career.

Good luck! I always wanted to join the peace corps.

You have *somewhat* of a see-saw pattern with your 3rd (communications) and 9th ( travel) houses. This new idea fits, because it combines both. You will probably be some sort of journalist, though, because it fits that as well. And this experience will actually give you journalistic teeth. That's probably the jupiter influence setting you up for the future.

Hi,

Changing majors in college is common. You're not the only one and defintely won't be the last

And, you can always change your mind. People do it all the time. Even when they are much older (40+ years old) and decide to go back to school again.

A pragmatic comment I would like to make is that just like journalism and the media, where you felt there were things that ticked you off, there will be things within the non-profit organizations themselves (even though their intent is to do good things) that will tick you off too. Loan forgiveness and bennies are nice, but the environments don't come without their own pitfalls too.

Good Luck!

We have similar chart placements . Sun, Mercury, Venus, Chiron in the 9th house with Saturn, Uranus in the 3rd house and Pluto in the first..

I too plan to join the Peace Corps, after I graduate with a BSW(socialwork). When done I plan to further my education.

We have similar charts and interests.

Good luck.

Hi MoonPixie,

Transiting Pluto is about to conjunct your natal Uranus. Among other things, it suggests a laser beam pressure and focus on rebellious behavior as well as HUMANITARIAN energies.

Your vocational profile looks good for journalism and teaching, writing, editing, etc. (I do proof reading and copyediting myself), but there is also an element of nurturing and counseling on a deep level, it suggests a love for research in order to be in control by knowing much, in order to do the right thing.

In addition to this Pluto transit coming up to your Uranus making you feel like you want to care for the entire world, Pluto will then conjunct your Saturn. This is a measurement of INCREDIBLE HARD HARD WORK!! There may be an element of coldness around it. Perhaps some loss in terms of home issues.

Because your Uranus and Saturn are in conjunction, it appears that there has always been a theme in your life of breaking away from the old to get to the new. This will be highlighted around this time like no other time in your life. This occurs around mid to end of December.

That nervous feeling is Pluto approaching your Uranus, Uranus feels intense and electrical.

Will you be teaching anytime soon? Maybe you'll be assigned to a teaching position around December or are romance issues, children's issues or athletic events in your near future coming up. If not, there might be some electric romance or humanitarian teaching things...

But those are the energies. The journalism and internationalism, teaching energies will always be there. It's a possibility that this Peace Corp/UNICEF thing might be a passing phase. I say MIGHT BE, because you do have strong 9th house emphasis and powerful support to your 9th house. Love for travel is emphasized and communication/writing is emphasized. You might just be needing a little break from it. You and I both know there's a difference between actually writing, reporting and editing all days long (sheesh!). Either way, something shockingly new is coming for you. AND Jupiter is about to conjunct your Uranus also, that's usually a surprising good luck, gifty kind of energy. LUCKY, LUCKY, LUCKY. A high probability of good luck.

Keep us updated if you can.

Moonpixie!

No worries! I have actually done something similar to you... I started as a geology major... I wanted to study geophysics and develp new ideas and theories about the center of the earth (nuclear fission reactor, composition, etc.) But then I took a course on Cultural Anthropology, and was hooked. I added Anthropology as a second major. I just graduated in May, and I will be getting a masters in International Relations next year. I want to work with the UN or UNICEF, too! I realized that I wanted to make a difference in the world, and geology would not allow me to make a direct impact how I would like... I could have gone on to pursue a masters in geology and have a promising career with lots of money (my professor was expecting me to join the graduate department)... but I don't think I would have been satisfied... I know that I was capable of being a good geologist... but what about what I wanted to do... what would make my life beautiful and fulfilling?

I made the decision that I wanted to help people, ease their suffering, so I let go of my fear of not being a geologist... and I don't regret it.

I don't know what the future holds for me, but I do know that it will be full of joy because of a Labor of Love...

Good Luck!!

To everyone~

Oh wow.. that's so crazy! I was just thinking about teaching English abroad for the summer but I found out that I can't because I have A LOT of courses I need to take for the next year and half.

I've always wanted to teach, but not high school. I think it would be awesome to be a college professor- and I love research.

I don't think that I'll be doing too much volunteering after the Peace Corps. If I can get a job/internship with UNICEF, that would be great but I really want to go back to school (it's that 9th house of mine...) and get a Masters in International Studies so I can teach *and* go to UNICEF to change a few things with our foreign aid system on a more broader scale than just volunteering...

I do want to keep writing, but perhaps just for freelance. I've already had a lot of experience on a newspaper as a writer (later I became an editor, almost became editor-in-chief but I turned down the school's offer because I wanted to transfer) and it's funny because I know more about the copy editing process than my professor who has been freelancing for 25 years. Crazy... the point is... I feel like I know enough to be able to write for a newspaper/magazine... but I want to expand myself beyond just knowing AP style or how to use InDesign. I want to know about people and the world and everything in between. I love sharing knowledge with people which is why I want to teach after I have my crazy travels around the globe in my 20s.

I've always known if I don't travel that I'd go insane. Absolutely. INSANE. I love my hometown but I seriously need to get out of the United States and into the real world lol.

Um, I haven't had any "electric romance" except with this one Pisces that things are slowly fizzing out with.

Also, I've been having some home issues. I might be moving soon and that's the issue. My mom (cancer) is so nervous about me commuting to school that I don't know how she'd cope if I were living in the city. I think she'd go insane and slowly drive me up a wall with phone calls and constant visits. It's difficult though because of all this commuting. I can't get as much work done and I'm starting to sacrifice alone time and time to just be a college student with riding the train for an hour to the city and another hour back home everyday. I'm always living my life according to this stupid train schedule . It's starting to become too much...

Anyways, thank you so much!
