Looking at most of the titles on this board, it all seems redundant. People seem to be drawn to things that seem "alluring". I can't pick another word, but is it human nature to give classification for everything we observe? It may be true, but applying astrology to most things in life seems unrealistic. Almost like, people try to convince themselves enough to believe it.

I don't know how to express my thoughts on this at the moment. But I want to get a discussion going without any negativity and without any insults.

What is astrology, really?
Do we go too far at times with reading natal charts and all that?
Are there other things at play here that influence all?

I do believe that other things influence who and how you are. Example, your environment, how you were raised, and things that you have seen in life. I am new to this site and I really like it. It gives you lots of info and it's interesting. I like to research and my mind is always thinking. That is probably why I post a lot of questions. It is just that I see something and want to know more about it. It's funny too because so many people only look at someone's sign and say things, but it also has to do with your moon and other aspects in a chart, but not only that, it should be just who you are not what your sign is. Some people only look at astrology for entertainment purposes and some look at it for more. Depends on the person and their views. I have seen a lot of people say that it is not just your sign but how you were raised. It gets confussing.

Hi Chameleon
I understand your thoughts on people replying to so called 'alluring' topics. It does a times seem as if 'frivolous' topics get a million replies whereas some more 'serious' enquiries go unanswered.
As far as astrology having all the answers of course it doesn't. To me it's like there is a great big jigsaw puzzle called life and astrology is one of the pieces of that puzzle.
When I was a little girl and played alone, as I did, with snails and ants and the like, imagining I was god and they were my 'minions', I used to wonder if there was some other little kid somewhere in the world who looked exactly like me and thought like me and did the same things I did; as I grew I wondered about the stars and then in my teens I discovered a book in the library by Linda Goodman, and my questions began to get answered one by one, culminating with Star Signs in my twenties. I know she was not God, I know she had the answers to only some of the questions and some of those answers raised more questions, but I guess overall it comes down to validating the questions you have inside yourself. When you find something like astrology, numerology or tarot for example that seems to lead you in the right direction, that seems to provide some of the answers you've searched for your whole life, then you put weight in that.
Questioning those who look to astrology for the answers is to me, the same as questioning Catholics for believing in Mother mary the Virgin mother, or Buddhists or even scientists. One person's belief system is another person's nonsense. Either way, if it brings you answers or leads you tomore questions, you are still on the path of learning, and that can only be a good thing right?
There are some that are co-dependent, so to speak, but who will judge how much of it is right or wrong - only someone who has all the answers, and who among us does?

Good topic

I agree, it may be unrealistic to say, live off on astrology readings on every single issue you have on your mind, rather than getting actual help or just making decisions in life for once. But I think most people are just inquisitive about the results or out comes. As amusing as it sounds, most people throw their trust into outside forces rather than doing their own earnest work. I know for a fact that my love life or career is made by me, not astrology. I make things happen. But I feel every help you can get, as long as it seems reasonable and could show you a different perspective or angle, is good help if you will also be making most of the effort yourself. Sometimes you have to be a level-headed person too. Be honest with these experiences and don't go astrology-crazy over every detail which may or may not have some relevancy. Extracting the good juices and making a fine smoothie with it.

But some people have nothing else to turn to that may give answers. Humans are impatient creatures. We rather want people or the divine to answer for us than we answer for our ownselves. We love being self-served things we never thought considering about, it's a pleasurable sense of ease. I guess you can call it mental lazy work, but if astrology is there for free, where is the harm?

Astrology has always given me things that just clicks and locks in perfectly. Nothing has ever been off. And for the things that seem or feel odd to me, is not faulty astrology, but rather the identification people have placed and written about. Astrology, still to most, is also a science that cannot be ignored. And to be honest, I rather seek astrology than turning into the Bible or Church. (I do believe in God, so I am not bashing anything) Sometimes people just give you cliche answers and advice, pertaining to general feelings only -- often good intended but really no direct help at all. Astrology is just my way of getting my answers quickly by some kind of divine nature, which I regard as being an intelligent pattern that is out there but hasn't been clarified of its real purpose to us. And only I know where this could apply to me and my life. The key is balance and open mindedness to potentials.

Also, I employ astrology along with psychology and my own experiences to enhance my observations and theories about people. Speaking of psychology, I think astrology is just like psychology. Just because we cannot prove it, doesn't mean it is not present within people. Freud and his daughter has labeled nearly majority of the common negative behavior among humans, as well as complexes. There are definitely archetypes you see within everyone, and I think astrology is just a ring of archetypes! Let's just say that it gives a real colorful picture of what people are, their motivations, their weaknesses and strengths, are like to me.

great post, patisserie!

i agree that there are is a devine intelligence at play and the more in depthedly i study astrology the more i am amazed at how REAL it is! it blows me away. i am a highly skeptical person, but very open minded and am able to observe patterns pretty well (sun, mercury and mars conjunct in aquarius, as well as many many asteroids) and maybe it is the ability to observe several things at once that enables me to confidently say that i have next to no doubts that astrology is perfectly valid and therefore is a perfect mirror for the currents at play in the universe..

so that said, i think it is a wonderful tool for understanding ourselves and others, our karma, and the mysteries of the universe/everything.

i think your question asks if people are trying to force something that isn't working by looking for minute "signs" of compatibility or overanalyzation.. that is difficult and so case-by-case to generalize an answer, but i think that we all have karma with the people we attract into our lives and it is a matter of slowly coming to understand who we are and what we want truly.. so it is all part of the process.

When people over-analyze or look for any minute sign of compatibility, they are people who also don't get the big picture. I think the problem lies when people get so desperate, that they need more and more information or "insight" that they forget to use their own hindsight and foresight. And I understand that when this happens, the people also tend to doubt their own intelligence and that doubt can easily cloud judgments.

I'd like to hope they will get to their Common sense when the time arrives. It can be the next morning when they think "Alright, enough astrology, I've got all I need and now I just need to work on the problem." Some people arrive to a conclusion at different times. Its a mistake to just try to cram in any detail especially if the information does not fit, but again, I don't think many people are this simple. I think before astrology, they would have asked other information resources as well.

When people say "that is true" and "you've just confirmed my suspicions" I also like to think they have been intently observant on their experiences, and that they just needed some sort of affirmation to continue on. Just use common sense. That there is no need to "read" on any further. Astrology can only give you so much -- the rest is filler and up to the person.

I don't know if anyone here goes too far in reading natal charts... but speaking for myself, every now and then I'll spot something I hadn't noticed before and want to discuss it, purely because it's a way for me to learn more about the subtleties of astrology and the subtleties of my interactions with other people. I find it very interesting. I could be wrong, but I think that's the way it is for a lot of people.

i agree, gemini lover. i learn so much every day here. and even going over a chart you have analyzed a bunch, there are bound to be things you have missed due to your own ways of interpreting things that other people can give great insight into..

also, if you pay enough attention, any relationship will bring its lessons and you can learn through studying those charts too and looking for connections, etc. but like you said patisserie, you have to trust your self and your gut or whatever word you want to use more than anything..
