do the harsh ones always denote some kind of issue with violence or aggression?

Not always.. but negative Mars/Pluto aspects can indicate a person who feels perpetually attacked and gets defensive easily. They often attack out of fear.

They believe that "the best defense is a good offense" .. Except they are often misinterpreting signals and perceiving attacks where none were intended. This can cause a lot of problems for them, when they thread on the wrong toes.

hard mars/uranus aspects can indicate that. quick violent tempers.

i have a mars/uranus square. luckily it is softened by a mars/pluto sextile. i try to make use of the last one in times of trouble.

aha! thanks

that makes sense about the uranus-mars, but i'm struggling with understanding the dynamics of the mars-pluto. i looked through all my charts of people i know well and the squares and oppositions are all people who seem to have a bit of a complex with feeling like they have to be tough and it's them against the world, so your description fits, coral frequency. i just don't know if i get the interplay of the planets..

is it kinda like mars is personal drive and ambition and pluto is deep unconscious needs and necessary changes thrust upon you by outside forces, so mars basically is rebelling against what is the deepest need unconscious drive? and therefore frustrated and lashes out.. and since mars is aggressive, if it can't actually DO or accomplish what its compulsively seeking, its action orientation causes it to see threats where there are none, kinda thing?

I had a friend who had Mars, Pluto and Uranus all conj, in Virgo (thank goodness.)

He was an ex Green Beret who was shot by the Taliban in Afghanistan. He earned a purple heart for it, but his whole life was consumed by wanting to go back and "shoot em all."

He was a talented physician's assistant, a surgical one who worked for a major group of cardio-thorasic surgeons. He did not like one of the docs he worked for and once while he and I were watching "Hostel" he asked me if I ever fantisized about hurting someone. He went on to tell me that he often thought of cutting the hands off of the doc he did not like (a very nice lady heart surgeon I might add!!!)

He ended up getting fired.

I noticed while I was hanging around with him, I would tend to draw very angry individuals to me. People in general public would road rage on me, curse at me, etc. I am usually a very peaceful individual and do not attract such, tho my Pisces sun tends to absorbe the energy of others so I figured I was taking on his energy and people who were anger-oriented were picking up on the energy I had absorbed.

I often wondered if his planets were not in Virgo, perhaps Scorpio or a fire sign what would happen...ewwwwww!

He was a bit of a fruit loop, too. A Taurus sun, who claimed to live his life by the bible....I say the dark side of the Bull here, religious dogma...never did figure out how he could want to kill people and claim to be this super christian...

Yea....Mars and Pluto contacts are so filled with energy. Tho, it can be a good thing with the correct individual. Often the individual can be very healing, IF and that is a big IF the energy is conciously directed in a positive manner.

I have mars conjunct chiron in pisces in the 4th house opposite uranus/pluto conj in virgo in the 10th house. I used to have a very quick temper, I've mellowed somewhat. But most of my rage was turned inward. I'm a little nervous about transiting Uranus approaching the Mars/Chiron conj at the same time I will experience my Uranus half return.

lady Nep

What interesting transits you have!!!

I would not fret, too much, with your Pisces side, and your Uranus and Pluto in Virgo, tho I feel this will certainly be a life changing time for you.

Have you read this thread???

i have mars trine pluto and i feel like i'm often fighting FOR something. maybe the key difference is that the easier aspects is like fighting FOR and the harder ones AGAINST? too simplistic? very subtle difference, and one could argue semantics. i guess the nature of the aspect would relate a lot to the rest of the chart (obviously) in how it performs. interesting!

and hippichick, thank you for the early morning nausea

Not sure about hard aspects in the natal chart...I have heard about synastry Mars-Pluto hard aspects can promote physical aggression/violence.

My Mars is trine my Pluto ..even though they're both in water signs, I am pretty aggressive and have violent tendencies.

My Mars is sextile Pluto. Heartcakes, the main difference I find is that with the negative aspects, the person flies off the handle for no logical reason.

quote:
In a word, you overreact. (Wanting to kill someone because they forgot to walk the dog is an overreaction).

quote:
Another way you may be expressing this energy is to be intensely and compulsively competitive, acting as if each and every event is a mighty struggle for supremacy, a contest with life or death consequences that you MUST WIN at all costs.

quote:
You will make a lot of enemies and actually force people to turn against you and bring you to your knees. Ruthlessness attracts ruthlessness.

This is from the Mars opposition Pluto interpretation here: http://www.kimscudamore.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/karmic.htm

quote:
Your Pluto-Mars opposition also speaks to a difficult relationship with your father. Early in life, you would have recognized his need to be in control [...] What's more, if your father was mean or cruel, you may have developed a negative belief system about what it means to be powerful.

http://www.stariq.com/Main/Articles/P0002495.HTM

All of that applies to one person I know. They have the opposition at 0'

I have a close mars pluto (in libra) conjunction both planets conjuncts my ascendant (libra) and sextiles my sun.
My past boyfriends have said that I intimidate and scare them... sometimes I come across as agressive and very direct, which may offend some people. I love physical activities in an almost addictive way (working out, sex, etc.)
I have a twin sister who shares the same aspect and when we fight, watch out!

Mars square Pluto...and both also connect to the ascendant, there have been times when it feels like people are afraid of me. It's like people can't talk or confront me about things, which is bothersome over time. Because I am a friendly person and I don't like coming across as someone who is scary and aloof. Then again it could also be my almost 0 Pluto square ascendant that does it too. If I want someone to talk to me or want to be near somebody I have to be the one who makes the move or else nothing happens. As far as anger issues go, sometimes I do have a bad temper(it takes alot though)but I calm down pretty easy.

wow, thanks for the replies everyone!

and coral, wow, very enlightening! thanks i have tended to go for guys with pluto and mars in harsh aspect. and it's true, they ALL have issues with their fathers being agressive and domineering and i can totally see where that formed their initial beliefs about authority and power. sooo interesting. and they all seem to be locked in power struggles with their fathers as well.

so i guess maybe it's like mars' driving need is curtailed in early development due to larger powers (pluto) manifesting in the father , and there is a clash of wills and a frustration there. so it's sort of like a pressure that's built up inside and can be explosive.. because mars is trumped by pluto and was not allowed to express itself naturally.. does that sound about right?

Yes. His Pluto oppose my mars, and my Pluto square his mars. We played competitive sports together. Nothing physical, but I felt like I was being body snatched. I ended it because (too much intensity for me) I felt he was going to hurt himself playing the was he was playing. It was madness.

We met as Transiting Mars conjunct my Pluto. And his progressed Sun conjunct my natal Sun.

As I recall Paul McCartney has Mars square Pluto. I read once about this aspect giving him as an example (before his current divorce!). Maybe despite his nice-guy image Macca really is a man who doesn't take any messing.

Synastry -> quite often I do a rough chart synastry chart of friends of mine, on one in particular I spotted a lack of Venus/Mars aspects. It struck me at the time as let's say there were sparks. If I had been more thorough I would have spotted the Mars/Pluto square and been a little more careful. I was the Pluto part and let's say I didn't bring the best aspects of his character to the surface on one particular occasion that is best forgotten.
