I got a free natal chart from www.alabe.com that said my rising sign was 23 degrees Leo. I am not at all like the description of a Leo. I asked some friends if I seemed like a Leo to them and they said absolutely not. I wondered if my birth time was wrong and that maybe I was really a Cancer or a Virgo rising.

Then I got a free chart from www.skyviewzone.com that said my ascendant was 5.5 degrees Virgo - a 12.5 degree difference. This sounds more like me (but then I am also a Virgo Sun sign). The placement of the houses/planets are slighly different and in some cases in a different house than the Alabe chart has them.

What's up with this? How could two charts be this different. Should I use the Virgo rising chart because it seems to describe me better?

What a confusing way to start my study of astrology. Can anyone help a newb out?

Hi and welcome to LL, Jai!

Sometimes sites can be off, although I don't know about these particular ones.

If you were born in a large city or spread out rurual area, that could account for the discrepency.

Try Astro.com. See which one they come up with...or post your birth info.

Hiya, Jai, and welcome to LL.

If you feel comfortable enough to post your details (date, time, city & country) I will let you know what I calculate.

Also, are you very certain about your birthtime? Could it be off by a half-hour or more?

And, were you born in a large city? Sometimes the ascendant can be off a bit because the longitude/latitude used to calculate is too "generic." If I use my specific hospital location versus just the city name, my ascendant changes.

Thanks for the replies.

I don't feel comfortable posting my info, but I think you are both right about the large city being too general. I will have to find the lat/long of the area.

Judging by your original post, I'd say you have a leo rising.

Hi Jai,

If you know the correct time and the hospital you were born in, you can find the exact lat/long to calculate your AC.
