I have a question regarding house rulers and interpretations.

For example, Mars would rule the first house and I have had people ask me to see where Mars falls in my chart (mine is in my first house and in Scorpio).

But, I have also had people have me look at MY first house ruler (Libra) and see where it falls in my chart. (In my case it's in Aries in my 7th house.)

I guess what I'm trying to understand is what each represents and what are the circumstances that you'd look for each placement.

I'd look to see where Mars (traditional house ruler) falls in my chart to find out....?

I'd look to see where my chart's first house ruler falls to find out....?

how you assert and present yourself...in your case Mars is dignified in Scorpio and doubly powerful as he lives in his own house
So you actually have Mars co-ruling your natal first house with Venus
You would also attract strong men into your life as Mars rules your natal 7th

I'd look to see where my chart's first house ruler falls to find out....?

Where you find yourself focusing a lot of your energy
....I know, I know....and it also indicates where a lot of your lessons in self expression and experiences will manifest

Make a little more sense?

Yesterday i ve discovered an interesting site of Vedic Astrology and i asked myself: do i see the natural rulers of houses..or do i have to see the rulers of my chart houses?

And now youve asked what i was expecting to ask today in a thread! - we must have sth psycic goin on here ..hmmm

My AC yes is Libra - so the ruler of my chart its Libra then.

It is in my 11th ( itīs retro though) in Leo.

like Vintry said your rulers in your chart are the planets ruling the signs on each cusp
However what 8th was asking is an extra guidance tool when you are interpreting your chart
For everyone the natural ruler of 1st house is Mars, 2nd house is Venus and so on....so if say you wanted to check the ruler of your 11th house which for you may be in sign of Leo, you would read the ruler as the Sun firstly. Check where the Sun is located and his aspects to rest of chart....then for extra flavour check where Uranus and Saturn are (they are both natural rulers of 11th house in natural zodiac...means for everyone) and see their aspects to rest of chart, and to the Sun....
if in this example your Sun and Uranus or Saturn blend well with each other you are very in tune with the natural order of the Universe
just joking....
what I mean is, if you chose an 11th house with Leo on the cusp, because this house is naturally Aquarius' house (opp sign of Leo) it will help you lots in its expression if your Sun and the two natural rulers are in harmonious aspect. Leo naturally wants to shine in the house of group expression instead of sharing the limelight

Now that ive red it with my eyes wide open,finally made sense to me

SO, we must look at the natural rulers of houses plus our sign house rulers and then see if they are aspecting in easy or not.

For example my chart ruler is Venus.
My 1st house natural ruler is Mars.Located in my 10th in Leo ( as Venus as well in Leo),Mars makes no aspects to my Venus neither to my personals. Trines Jup/Uranus;sextiles my AC and conj my Valentine/karma.

Another interesting thing: I think it was VenusdeIndia who said it: to look also at the Oriental Planet ( the one preceeding the Sun) in our charts - that one will tell us the energies we must be focused in and follow in ordre to acomplish our task.

True, I'm no astro expert, but...

the way I understand it, the chart ruler & the first house ruler are the same thing. The Chart Ruler is the planet that rules your Rising sign, not planet(s) in your first house.

Take me for example: I am a Virgo Rising with Pluto in the first house. Now,

1. Mercury as ruler of my Rising sign (Virgo) is my Chart Ruler.

2. Mercury, again, as ruler of the first sign in my chart (Virgo) is the ruler of my first house. These two (1st house & Chart Ruler) are always the same.
