I have a Scorpio friend who says it doesn't bother her the least bit; if anything, it gives her an advantage over others.I, on the other hand, find myself reacting defensively in response to those who call astrology a hoax. How do you react? Do you ignore the comments? Do you laugh? Do you attempt to defend astrology? Any good suggested arguments? IP: Logged |

I just laugh and shrug it off, most people aren't interested in how in-depth astrology goes. ------------------ Capricorn sun / Scorpio rising / Sagittarius moon No man is free who is not master of himself. IP: Logged |

I don't really discuss astrology outside this forum. So I don't find myself in that situation ... however, if on occasion I do hear people mocking astrology, I don't really care. Oh, well, I actually do care, but for me astrology is like a religious belief ... everyone has their own personal views and I accept that. I obviously don't agree with the folks that are mocking astrology, but I don't argue about it. IP: Logged |

There is a difference between someone who truly doesn't care for astrology or care to know anything about it and someone who puts astrology down as a way to insult you for your interest and belief at the same time, that's where I take offense. People are allowed to dislike whatever they want, but if someone is using their dislike of astrology as a way of calling me a fool, then I do my best to address their insult to me.I don't need to defend astrology just as I don't need to defend weather forecasting. To me, they are the same. People get ****** at the weather man even though he is correct about the weather 90% of the time, but we only seem to remember when the weather forecasters are wrong, and boy do we kick up holy hell when they are wrong, but the truth is that they are correct a majority of the time. Some people are so afraid of any kind of prognostication art whether it be astrology, tarot cards, runes, psychic forecasting or healing. I'm a person who is afraid of organized religion because I have seen the pain and damage it has caused many of my friends and family members. But I have seen new age spirituality practices do damage to people as well. So I think there are valid positives and negatives to all of this. We all just have to find our own path. I had this whole big response prepared and then I read Love's comment: whaaaaaaat? Sorry to be a nosy pig, er, sheep, but—what happened?Oh, and my attitude toward haters is, "Fine, don't believe it. You're choice; fine with me." But I won't defend it to people who don't "get it." No point; you either see its relevance or you don't. IP: Logged |

My closest female friend believes in palm readings, spirits and tarot but not astrology. LOL! She only knows about sun signs, not actual astrology and I don't have the inclination to explain anything to her as she's the kind of person who won't listen to others she has to find things out for herself. I laughed for about an hour when I read her personality profile on astro.com- she'd disagree with a lot of it but her husband and everyone else would agree its spot on!Astrology is too complicated to discuss with people who don't know anything about it so I don't bother. Occasionally I'll talk about moon signs and ascendants with people- some find it interesting, others scoff but neither reaction bothers me at all. So in short- other peoples opinions on astrology don't bother me. IP: Logged |

Whaaaaaat? LOLYeah, well at first my ex was SUPER interested in astrology, even though he's an athiest. He asked me questions about Cancers and Scorpios during our first ever conversation and he even learned to make jokes about his Virgo Moon. But after almost 6 months of being all in love, he broke up with me because of our "different core values", one of which (he was sure to mention) was my belief in astrology. The dude has Neptune in the 9th house! The funny thing is that I was fine with the fact that he doesn't beleive in astrology, but he wasn't so fine with the fact that I do. So, normally I don't give a crap when people get all up in my grill about astrology because it ultimately doesn't affect me. Except this one time when it kinda broke my heart. IP: Logged |

I tend to avoid all discussion about astrology with anyone. I get a tad rankled when people are discussing astrology with a superficial level of knowledge on the subject, and I'd much rather deal with people who have a strong opinion due to research on the subject matter. In 99.9% of those cases, I keep my mouth shut.IP: Logged |

I usually tell them "unless you got a report from a truly professional astrologer and it proved to be utter b*ll*cks, STFU" hehe I was watching something astrology-related on TV today and typically Scorp dad was all "why on earth are you watching that crap? this is BS". I said "well, everything they've said about Scorps rings true so far dad". He replied back "oh but we are fly". I was like o.O

I'm trying to figure out how you get someone to call it a hoax. Maybe it's my self-contained demeanor, but when I bring up astrology even with people who don't know me all that well I never get a discussion on whether or not it's true. Perhaps it's because I just ask enough information to get a Sun sign out of the conversation, and then back off the subject unless they express interest.IP: Logged |

Hahahaha... I like the replies to this topic.Personally, I don't talk about it with people unless I know they are going to be open to it, which is to say, that generally I don't talk about it at all. However, lately I've made some friends who are completely open to it, and since I'm much more learned on the subject then they are, I've been teaching 3 different friends all about it. However, one of those friends is someone I normally hang out with with our other friend and her fiancee... So when we start talking about astrology they look at us kinda funny... But that's ok, because when they start talking about the wedding we look at them kinda funny. As for everyone else, I simply don't bring it up, and if there's someone else talking about it who doesn't know very much about it, I really curb my Virgoan tendency to correct them. lol. Honestly, if people have a differing opinion on it than me, I really could care less. My thought is that they haven't delved into it far enough to see it's true significance or that they simply aren't open enough to other ways of thinking to see what it can do. Astrology is one of those things I can agree to disagree on. ------------------ Virgo Sun/Aries Moon/Scorpio Rising IP: Logged |
