So I've been lurking here a while and thought it wouldn't hurt to say hello. I've just recently gotten interested in Astrology though I've been reading Linda no for over 15 years (was high school really that long ago?).I don't know why I never felt motivated to learn more about astrology...I've always felt it was interesting. I think it's the math. I'm not a big math fan and I thought Astrology had A LOT of math involved. I've gotten to the point though that even if it does I want to find out more. ONe fo the reasons i decided to pull myself out of lurkerhood. I'm studying different sites hoping to learn some here and there. I did have a question. Nothing about a chart :-P. I'm wondering if people would be willing to list their top three beginners books or learning tools they've used or discovered for astrology. Oh, I know i'll do a lot more reading than a few books but I'm looking for the best place to start. Any suggetions on what you consider the best 3 places to start will be great apprecitated. Thanks again. I look forward to getting to know each of you and learning all that I can. IP: Logged |

Alan Oken, the complete astrology (i think the subtitle is As Above, So Below) and Grant Lewi Astrology for the Millions and Heaven Knows What - but you know Linda lists MANY resources in her books and a lot of them are great places to start. Both Oken and Lewi are great writers who helped me to conceptualize the wheels within wheels that make astrology so fascinating...or you could go to a bookstore with a good astrol. section and see what grabs you!!! have fun! and welcome...IP: Logged |

Good thread question, I hope you get plenty of answers, it would make a great resource tool. My favourite book is by James Braha, "how to be a Great Astrologer", it is full of depth about the different aspects and how they work: http://www.amazon.com/How-Great-Astrologer-Plan etary-Explained/dp/0935895027/ref=pd_bbs_4?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1201550915&sr=8-4 Online I like: http://www.cafeastrology.com/ http://www.astrologyweekly.com/ and because life is too short to sit around doing paper calclations: http://www.astro.com

to LL, tamingchaos Look Ma -- No Math!!!! Please go to www.astro.com. Right under the “Astrodienst Astro.com” in the blue title bar is a section called "Free Horoscopes", click on that. Under "Please select your free horoscope" choose the section headed in gray called "Horoscope Chart Drawings" and pick "Extended Chart Selection". Click on "Add a New Person" and set yourself up. Then under "please select the type of chart you want" drop-down box, choose "natal chart wheel" and click on the "click here to show the chart" button. Once you've run that you'll have all your planetary positions (and a nice picture!). At the "Horoscope Home" page, you can now click on "Portrait" under “Astrodienst Free Horoscopes" in red. Down at the bottom of your "Short Report - Personal Portrait" is the text listing of all your planetary and house positions. There are excellent instructions (with pictures ) at this page, under “Generating Your Chart”: http://intraspec.ca/asteroid-goddesses.php Happy Trails!! ~ Zala **edit** PS: Oh, books. #1 - "The Inner Sky" (natals, vol 1) and "The Changing Sky" (transits/progressions, vol 2) by Steven Forrest "The Twelve Houses" by Howard Sasportas "Planets in Aspect" by Robert Pelletier "Astrology for the Soul" by Jan Spiller Martin Schulman's 4-book series anything by Liz Greene You might also check out this thread with links to everything Astro that you can possibly imagine http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/006272.html And the Noobs thread: http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/015151.html IP: Logged |

Hello. I'm a new poster, too. This is a nice place. And I wouldn't worry too much about "the maths" (as Gwenyth Paltrow likes to say). I suck at math, but find the applied math required for astrology to be a snap. You'll get the hang of it.------------------ "You stay young as long as you can learn, acquire new habits and suffer contradiction." (Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach) IP: Logged |
