The Solar Eclipse of February 6-7, 2008 in Aquarius
by Robert Wilkinson

The coming Solar Eclipse will have a very significant impact on us all. All eclipses shut something down, taking away elements of our lives no longer "true" for us. Aquarius is the sign of collective expression, larger ideals, group efforts, and the exteriorization of Leo, the sign of personal love. Thus a form of impersonal love will be shut down, with the void sure to attract new forms of expressing this energy. This eclipse is conjunct Neptune, thus will both trigger and shut down some Neptunian elements of the Grand Irrationality.

This Annular Solar Eclipse occurs at 7:44 pm PST, 10:44 pm EST on February 6, 2008, and 3:44 am February 7, GMT/UT. It puts mid-Virgo rising in California, mid-Libra rising in EST, 13 Sag rising in London, 16 Sag rising in Amsterdam, and 22 Sag rising in Estonia. Istanbul has 20 Capricorn rising, Bagdad has 14 Aquarius rising, Johannesburg has 17 Aquarius rising, N. Delhi and Trivandrum both have 30 Pisces rising, while Bangkok has 28 Aries rising and Tokyo has 22 Gemini on the Ascendant. W. Australia has early Taurus rising, Melbourne has 25 Taurus rising, while Brisbane has 6 Gemini on the Ascendant.

In eclipse lore, where the Eclipse is visible will be where the greatest effects can be expected, lasting the number of years that the eclipse is long in minutes. Partial phases of this eclipse are visible primarily from eastern Australia, New Zealand, the South Pacific, and most of Antarctica. This would seem not to bode well for our Southernmost continent, and therefore will probably impact the rising ocean levels for a number of years to come, with immediate results the next two years plus, due to the eclipse duration.

Though triggering the Grand Irrationality, the New Moon is semisquare Pluto, showing an emergent "crisis of development" and a turning point in power structures affected everywhere. The lunation is part of a grand lineup of points in Aquarius, including Moon, Sun, Mercury RX, Chiron, Neptune, and North Node all in that sign, and so it will profoundly affect the Gemini, Cancer, Leo, and Virgo planets and houses in our charts through lessons learned in mid-to-late Aquarius, calling us all to a higher self-expression. I outlined some general influences for this Eclipse stellium in Spiritual Astrology in January-February 2008 Pt. 2.

A brief look at what was said there:

Saturn is important since it's the worldly ruler of the Eclipse, with Uranus the Spiritual ruler of the Eclipse. These two are in wide opposition, showing a polarization between the two energies that will yield realizations as well as polarizations. Saturn is retrograde, thus still receding from its coming opposition with Uranus in Pisces beginning in August 2008. This is giving us all a reprieve for a few months from this polarizing energy between the forces of service and deception on a global level, and between the progressive dreamers and those who would enslave the future in an avalanche of details, worries, and criticisms.

We can use Saturn to express the Uranus in Pisces energies of rebirth within a collective setup, but will have to find a practical use for the times where we must wait wisely. Overall, it seems that we can make tremendous material progress as a result of this eclipse coming. A final note is that the Eclipse Venus is the degree of January's New Moon, so we should be capturing pleasing forms of protection and power over the next few weeks, as well as in years to come.

The Eclipse is favorable to Mars, quickening productive activity. Through pruning back whatever we need to we can show our world what we care about while being led to new rhythms of life, new perspectives, and adjustments in how and when we apply our energies to do needed "repair work."

The lunation is also flanked in semisextiles to Venus in Capricorn sextile Uranus in Pisces, the Spiritual ruler of the Eclipse. This should provide favorable momentum to finish up our "rebirth" work to show a better side to our society while opening new forms of power, protection, and "belonging" to some larger system of order.

Most of the stellium is decile (semi-quintile) Jupiter, with a very powerful novile from Jupiter to Neptune. This shows a specializing effect of the eclipse effect within a larger atmosphere of revelations coming that have been cooking for the long period since the last Jupiter-Neptune conjunction at 28 Capricorn in January 1997. We shall all begin to explore in methodical ways opportunities to empower future ideals while ending old ones.

This eclipse combines elements of SeeSaw and Bucket Jones Patterns. Depending on various factors, this Eclipse has either Mars or Saturn as the "nozzle" for the release of all the other planetary energies. Mars is quintile Saturn, showing that regardless of which one is the nozzle there will be high specialization in the areas in our charts involving late Gemini and early Virgo. We just need to find the right balance in circumstances that are out of balance.

This is good, since Mars is very favorably aspected by the Aquarius planets, whereas Saturn is favorably aspected by the Capricorn planets. Thus the forming oppositional tension between Saturn and Uranus can be focused in harmonized understandings helping us target new needs and new lifestyles. Regardless of where the nozzle focuses the energies, we'll find gifts, unique qualities, and publicly demonstrable talents.

We just need to learn how best to use the times when we're not active in one area to polish our skills in the other. This will demonstrate our level of "Soul development" within forms of binding protection. This will free many from old responsibilities or fussy restraints as a natural effect of the pruning energies of Mars demonstrating what we care about.

Saturn is on the Ascendant, Mars on the MC and the stellium in the 6th in PST. Saturn's in the 11th, Mars in the 9th and the stellium in the 4th in EST. In London, Amsterdam, and Estonia, Saturn's on the 9th cusp, Mars in the 7th, with the stellium in the 2nd house. Istanbul and Bagdad show the Aquarius stellium rising, with Mars in the 5th and Saturn in the 8th. In India, Mars is in the 3rd, Saturn in the 6th, and the stellium in the 11th house.

In East Asia, Bangkok shows the stellium in the 10th with Mars in the 3rd and Saturn in the 5th, while Tokyo and Melbourne have the stellium in the 9th house, Mars rising, and Saturn in the 4th. West Australia shows the stellium in the 10th, Mars in the 2nd, and Saturn in the 4th, while Brisbane has Mars rising, Saturn in the 3rd, and the stellium spanning the cusp of where the 8th house meets the 9th.

From the NASA Eclipse site:

An annular eclipse will be visible from a wide track, that traverses Antarctica and southern regions of the Pacific Ocean. A partial eclipse will be seen within the much larger path of the Moon's penumbral shadow, which includes the southeastern third of Australia, all of New Zealand and most of Antarctica.

The annular path begins in Antarctica at 03:20 UT when the Moon's antumbral shadow meets Earth and forms a 581 kilometre wide corridor near the base of the continent's peninsula region. Traveling westward, the shadow quickly crosses Antarctica and turns north as it heads into the Pacific. Greatest eclipse takes place at 03:55:05 UT when the eclipse magnitude will reach 0.9650. At this instant, the annular duration is 2 minutes 12 seconds, the path width is 444 kilometres and the Sun is 16° above the featureless horizon of the open ocean. The central track continues north before gradually curving to the east where it ends at local sunset at 04:31 UT...

The most unusual characteristic of this eclipse is that it begins and ends along Earth's sunset terminator. Most eclipse paths that travel from west to east. However, the 2008 annular eclipse path begins by running east to west and slowly turns north before curving west to east near its terminus.

I'll be writing more articles in the near future about this important Solar Eclipse and its effect on each individual sign, as well as the coming Lunar Eclipse occurring 7:30 pm PST February 20 at 2 degrees Virgo-Pisces, important since 2 Virgo is the Saturn stationary direct point of May 2, 8:07 pm PDT.

For now, you may want to go back and re-read The Solar and Lunar Eclipses of August and September 2007 since they are still in full effect in all our lives in a big way. It may explain why some areas of our lives have been shut down the past few months and will continue to be over the next few years. In the article you'll also find links to other articles about past Eclipses that still impact us.

From Lisa Dale Miller:
quote:
New Moon in Aquarius
Wednesday, February 6, 2008
7:44pm PST, 10:44pm EST, 03:44 GMT/UT
17° Aqua 44’
Annular Solar Eclipse
7:55pmPST 17° Aqua 50’

This is the New Moon for radical change. Aquarius is often thought of as visionary: an energy that looks beyond the norm, questions accepted truths, boldly claims originality, flies in the face of reason; and flatly refuses to blindly follow the dictates of others. And oh, if you are like me, (always ready to dive into Aquarian energy) you will be very happy on this New Moon with its Chiron/Mercury/Sun/Moon/Neptune conjunction in utopian Aquarius. This will be our first New Moon with Pluto in Capricorn, joined by Venus and Jupiter in this most embodied and demanding of signs. The combination of these planets in Aquarius and Capricorn represent a mind-blowing head-to-head struggle between the energies of Saturn (reality) and Uranus (innovative vision). Add to this an energetic direct-moving Mars in Gemini trine Sun/Moon/Neptune in Aquarius and a slow, methodical retrograde Saturn in Virgo trine Pluto/Jupiter in Capricorn, and we’ve got a New Moon perfect for envisioning actual implementation of radical change.

The annular solar eclipse will add a bit of heightened energy to this New Moon. Partial phases of the eclipse will be visible primarily from eastern Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific. For more information on the eclipse go to NASA’s Eclipse homepage http://sunearth.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclipse/OH/OH2008.html#2008Feb07A

Aquarius rules “WHY NOT?”, and this is where your attitude needs to be when you engage in ritual for this New Moon. Any hesitance, doubt, or second-guessing should be forsworn in favor of a radical openness to revelation. And believe me, with all this Capricorn energy and a retrograde Mercury and Saturn, these mental blocks will show up. This is the Eve of the Chinese New Year; the Year of the Rat. Chinese astrology views a Rat Year as the most prominent of the water element years and the Rat is the first of the 12 animal signs. So a Year of the Rat also represents the beginning of a new 12 year cycle around the Chinese Astrological Wheel. So use the planning talent of Capricorn to think about implementing radical change over a long period of time. This is a great way to talk back to the fear inherent in Capricorn/Saturn and allow the fearlessness of Aquarian "breaking out and jumping in feet first and head later" to have some life in your ritual.

Change is good! Reflect upon how you felt when you read that last sentence. Did you feel a pit in your stomach? Did you scoff at me? Did you feel a powerful YES! reverberate in your psyche? Really it all comes down to our attitude toward change, and this is the New Moon to throw out the old and bring in the new! This is the time to seek and destroy worn out modes of thinking. The Aquarius New Moon asks each of us to awaken to the reality of our lives. To see it as it truly is (no rose colored glasses allowed) and then envision a better life; one free of old rules and restrictions that reflect your “I can’ts, I won’ts, I’m unable, and I’m scared”. This is a truth or dare New Moon. Recognize your present circumstances and then dare to vision beyond them, past the boundaries of the known into the unknown.

Thank you, Zala.

Seems, this is the ecclipse for me, since my natal Moon is on 17°06 Aquarius and my progressed Mercury and Venus are BOTH at 17°41 Aquarius and the progressed Vertex is at 17°40 Leo.

Seems like this is gonna be an important night for me.

Thank you Zala,

Like I said I am afraid littebit, because I don't know what it brings...It happens in 1,5 deegree from my Venus (19:00 Aqua) and opposes my Saturn (16:00 Leo). I am usually calm before eclipses, but not this time. Jesus....
Even that Jupiter makes 2 sextiles to Moon and Uranus, I feel nervouse and My Moon in Piscies "lost control".

Hi Zala,

it seems, the first eclipse has the strongest connections to my chart.

The other ones only have conjunctions / oppositions to my natal asteroids or draconic placements.

The one in 1° Virgo will be opposite my family name (and trine my Vesta and sextile my uranus).

the one in 9° Leo will be opposite my Pallas Athene and a guy`s name in my chart. Also, it will be exactly conjunct my dr Chiron.
And it will be opposite my inferior Sun-Venus-conjunction.

The one on 24° Aquarius will be conjunct my Psyche exactly and my mean Lilith (true Lilith is on 28° Aquarius though).

Well, even though there are some connections to my natal chart, I`d think the first one has the strongest connection, being exactly conjunct Moon and triggering all those progressed planets and Vertex.

Even though I don`t have any idea what impact exactly that is gonna have. But I won`t have to wait long to find out, I guess.

Bleh, what a beautiful exact square to my Venus. I *cannot* wait. My love life, financial situation, and current sense of self-worth can't possibly get any worse, and I trust the unpredictable nature of Aquarius.

D'oh I had a reply typed out and it went away. Damn Mercury Retro!

Wanted to bump this up. This eclipse will be close to my Moon which is in the 8th, but the eclipse activity will fall in my 9th. This means this will also oppose my Saturn (I have a wicked Moon-Saturn 0*orb opposition natally).

I have a job interview tomorrow morn, not even 24 hrs after this eclipse! I am very interested to see how this turns out. Don't 'they' say that events that happen on/around an eclipse are very significant and that one usually won't know how much so 'till up to a year later? I don't know where I got that, but I remember reading it somewhere.

Hhmm, last Mercury Rx (The way I wrote that made me think of medication, like it's Communication Medication time for all) I had a big job interview. I did not get that job, but I do realize now that I am glad for not getting it! It's kinda weird to me that I am getting to go on another big interview during - Merc Rx - again. This job stuff is still in the works apparently!

`Who are you?' said the Caterpillar. This was not an encouraging opening for a conversation. Alice replied, rather shyly, `I--I hardly know, sir, just at present-- at least I know who I WAS when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then.'

The Eclipse is just about to happen in my time zone.....
I shall have to explore Vesta and Pallas more deeply -- my nVesta is at 18 Aqua and nPallas at 17 Leo, and I have NOT been myself for the past several days

Yasmin Boland writes:
Thursday February 7 - Moon in Aquarius

Today brings an eclipsed New Moon in the sign of Aquarius. See your
Daily Stars for how this is affecting your sign. Eclipses can be
tough to take if we're not being smart and we're clinging onto
someone or something which is not doing us any good, which is toxic or
otherwise just sooo obviously not our destiny.

They're like the hand of God/dess reaching down from the skies and
tearing is out from the toxic mess we're trying so hard to cling to
(resistance is futile by the way!) But if we're living well and open
to positive change, they can be just as powerful a force for good.
Think of it as though we live in a Universe with lots of parallel
realities.

Just say you quite like your life but there are a few changes you
would like to make – the eclipses make it possible to jump from one
reality to another – and (Aquarians take note) never more so than
when they are in your own birth sign.

The Transiting Clump (thanks AJ ).....
Chiron - 15Aqu56
Mercury(r) - 16Aqu52
Moon - 17Aqu36
Sun - 17Aqu43
Neptune - 21Aqu34
Vesta - 24Aqu28
NN - 27Aqu41
..... are all in my 6th house and I'm feeling quite melancholy and unsettled.....

i was born on the 7th of february, my natal sun is at 17'57 aqua, so right on the solar eclipse... and i already felt something of its effect.

i was seeing a guy and everything seemed to be alright until...yesterday, when he told me he wasn't gay! nothing had happened between us but our synastry and composite chart are really great, and the feeling felt awesome. the meeting felt fated to me, (i was walking in the street when some students threw an egg at me from their hall the egg hit me on my head! lol! he was there and came to see if i was alright). my moon is conjunct his south node and his sun and jupiter conjunct mine. my chiron conjunct his north node...plus all the rest. we get on well, like if we always knew each other, and the feeling is love and care, or i thought so.

well, i think i have to accept that i can see things (like a mutual attraction) that is more a based on my desire and needs than reality... it's hard to swallow!

i can't tell you how i feel right now!! i'm so confused... i wish it could change latter. that he realises that love is stronger than gender but i read something on the second link below that says that you cannot change anything told to you on an eclipse. it's like written in stone!!

on his birthday his sun will be in opposition to the lunar eclipse and i hope somehow that it could trigger some change in him (wishfull thinking perhaps) but i felt so shaken up yesterday that i'll just go with the flow.

i'm laughing today when people tell me HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

ps: on the second link they also say that when an eclipse fall on your birthday, you'll feel it for a year or so!
