Hi! Does anyone know the answer to this? I've read a couple of different things. Is the dispositor of a planet the ruling planet of the sign another planet is in? Or is it based on the planet which rules the house that a planet is in?

For example: I have moon in Gemini in the 2nd house, which is ruled by Taurus in my chart. (Not to be confused with the fact that Taurus is the natural ruler of this house...it is the ACTUAL ruler of my 2nd house.)

Okay, so...is the dispositor of my moon mercury, because the moon is in Gemini and Gemini rules mercury? OR

Is the dispositor of my moon venus, because Taurus rules the house in which my moon falls?

"The Ruler of the Sign on the cusp of a House disposes of, or is the dispositor of, a planet posited in that House. When the dispositor of any planet taken as a significator, is itself disposed of by the Ruler of the Ascendant, it is deemed a strongly favorable indication. In a Solar Figure, the Ruler of the Sign is the Dispositor of a planet posited therein. The assumption is that when a planet is in a Sign that is ruled by another planet, it is supposed to be so influenced by the planet that rules the Sign in which it is placed, as in effect to alter its nature. Thus, if Saturn is in a Sign ruled by Jupiter, the Jupiterian influence is presumed so to permeate the Saturn influence as to render it more Jupiterian and less Saturnian. This idea is expressed by saying either that "Saturn is disposed of by Jupiter," or that "Jupiter is the dispositor of Saturn." Definitions of various authorities are somewhat vague and apparently contradictory, but a study of older texts appears to justify the simple explanation here given. of course the term must not be interpreted too literally, for most authorities argue that a planet actually in-a-House is more potent in its influence over the affairs of that House than is the Ruler of the Sign on its cusp, or of a Sign intercepted within the House. The extent to which the Dispositor nullifies the influence of the planet of which it disposes, is a matter of judgment based upon the strength of aspects and the character of the aspecting planets as affecting both the Dispositor and the planet of which it disposes."

Thanks StarryM! I saw that definition, but there are others, such as...

"When a planet is in the sign ruled by another, that planet is said to be disposed of by the ruler, its dispositor. For example, Mars in Sagittarius in said to be disposed of by Jupiter, the ruler of that sign. Jupiter is thus the dispositor of Mars. Disposition by a benefic is favourable and especially so if the dispositor is elevated or more elevated than the disposed. Mutual Disposition (when planets are in each other's signs, eg: Moon in Leo and Sun in Cancer) is very favourable and reduces any surrounding negativity. Disposition is particularly important in Horary readings. "

Hence, my confusion! lol I think it doesn't matter most of the time, because the planet and the house are often in the same sign. BUT, as we all know, that's not always the case. So now I don't know which is the right one to go with.

Have you ever looked at the "Sign/House Dispositor Graph" under the "Pullen Astrolog" chart group at "Extended Chart Selection" at astro.com??

Hey Zala! Thanks! I just checked that out. It looks like Astro is going by sign for dispositors of planets. For planets in houses, it's using the natural rulership of the houses and not the house rulers for the particular person. Am I reading that right???? lol
