It seems every person I want to run synastry charts on doesn't know their time of birth..and I'm sick of not knowing where my planets fall in their chart :P

So this is what I've been doing and so far it "works" .. I really pay attention to communication when interacting with others..I especially note the things that are talked about. I have found that Mercury falling in another's house, it is the Mercury person who mostly talks about whatever things are associated with the house of the partner.

Example: My Mercury falls in my mom's 6th house..I find *myself* talking to her a lot about everyday things, work, around the house, health, our pets, etc. Her Mercury falls in my 9th, she talks to me a lot about philosophical and higher-minded topics.

Now this is how I do it..since communication is the most obvious and immediate thing to gauge in a relationship (for me at least) I take note of what *I* talk about with someone to find out their ASC.

Example: I noticed I was interested in talking to this guy about himself a lot, I was interested in him, his thoughts, his interests, his past, HIM. I changed his birth info on astro.com til the chart was aligned where my Mercury falls in his 1st house. After that, I realized the rest of my planets in his houses were dead-on accurate..and the ASC it ended up being fit him VERY well.

This doesn't give exact information on the time of birth, obviously..there is about a 1-hour give or take area for the ASC..so the degree is probably off but overall it works.

Any thoughts? Anyone else tried this or something similar with success?

Will have to try to remember to try that out someday. Actually, it's not often that I have the date and the place without the time, so I'm not sure if I'll get around to this.

My Mercury is conjunct my girlfriend's Sun, so it's on her 11th/12th house cusp. I suppose we do talk about those sort of things. We tried going to church not long ago, because she was looking for a way to be more social. That certainly falls under the 11th/12th house. I tell her all kinds of crazy thoughts and dreams I have, and report to her after every Improv [group] class.

Her Mercury in Sag falls in my 7th. She has told me about adversarial relationships like the one she used to have with her boss. She does tell me a lot about people, but that's not necessarily everything. I think the Sag part comes out quite a bit. We talk philosophy often, and she is a Sag Sun, so... I don't know. I think she would have had a difficult time using your method on me. We're both heavily Gemini (My Asc, Her Moon) as well, so we flit from topic to topic incessantly to the point that we have trouble getting off the phone because there's always some last second topic that pops into our heads.

AG: I'm so happy to see that the Mercury thing is pretty much right for someone else, too!

On a (sort of) tangent..because of that method I've realized that the planet person is the one feeling/doing rather than the house person..the planet person is just feeling/doing something in the area (house) of the other person's life. When I read synastry that way, instead of the house person being the one affected, it becomes more accurate.

Augentier - hey, I think you've definitely hit on something here! Kudos!

I have a very similar situation with my SO, but with a slight difference. It's the same thing in that I find that I am always interested in talking about HIM...and HE talks about himself alot, too. (I know that sounds pretty egotistical on his part but I really do like it! lol)

The difference is, HIS mercury falls into my first house and MY mercury falls into his seventh. So, I think it means he talks about the "self" and I talk about the "other'...in other words, HIM! lol As a side note, I think this is a good thing, because he has mercury in the 12th house natally, so I don't think he shares a whole lot with other people.
