i have a lot of emphasis on the 8th and i find the house interesting to study.. especially in relation to all the signs. i found this snippet below- its something to digest. its interesting to me that Gemini is the 8th house from Scorpio- ive always felt that these two signs have very little in common- and as a result, Gemini easily rubs Scorpio the wrong way and builds 8th house tension for it."Aries’ impetuosity and self-assertion isn’t too happy with the self-restraint and calculation Scorpio requires. Taurus’ desire for comfort feels insecure with Sagittarius’ need for freedom and exploration. Gemini’s superficiality spontaneity may rebel at practical, well thought out long range plans required by Capricorn. Cancer’s sentimentality is disconcerted by Aquarius’ detachment and independence. Leo’s proud ego and dramatic flare balk at Pisces’ self-sacrificing humility -- the Lion doesn’t want to play the wallflower! Virgo’s self-perfecting fussiness is shocked by Aries’ attitude of “just do it!” Libra’s concern for other people is offended by Taurus’ self-absorbed sensuality. Deep, intense Scorpio is perplexed by Gemini’s light and breezy ways. Sagittarius, roaming freely and unbounded, feels claustrophobic with Cancer’s attachment to home and hearth. Serious, hard working Capricorn is insulted when he sees Leo earning better rewards, faster, simply through his warmth and charm. Aquarius with Virgo is the mad scientist and his lab technician. In an odd way they need each other. Last of all, Pisces’ all encompassing and compassionate nature feels threatened by Libra’s demand for one-to-one relationships and “political correctness.” Pisces feel threatened by social limitations. A final note: if you are comfortable with your eighth house, look at the eighth house from the eighth. Gemini’s superficiality spontaneity may rebel at practical, well thought out long range plans required by Capricorn. Gemini's my Ascendant. I'm a Capricorn Sun and Jupiter. It is a struggle, but astrological knowledge of this dynamic has gone a long way to helping me reconcile my nature. IP: Logged |

Sun  Rising  The odd thing about these two energies for me personally is that they seem like they always seemed to be the wrong way around on my chart. But after spending time on this forum I think it is more an onion layer effect, with Moon CNJ Pluto on the innermost layer. This makes sense because my husband says I have a brooding side to my personality that no-one sees except him. This is probably about right. He reckons I am more like Scorpio. There's plenty of Gemini in me - that's the bit that is interested in everything, grasshopping about whilst Scorpio gets annoyed and wants to delve deeply into one area of interest. The 8th house is a bit of a puzzler. I've done sex, I've compiled tax returns and I've seen death in action  but they're not automatic linkages in my head. Death close by is going to be the very time that I don't give a *(&^ about sorting out finances. Oh, and you can bet that if there is some 8th house action on my chart and I think great, maybe there is going to be a chance of a seedy affair with someone unsuitable, I get a letter off HM's Revenue and Customs instead. I have Mars (Sag) conjunct Neptune (Scorpio) in my 8th house, and I feel very comfortable with my 8th house – I feel proud of it even – I think this is the combination in my chart that makes me run marathons and finish them! (which is not always the case with all the stuff I start with - 200% enthusiasm that usually ends up with me postponing or putting it aside until the next wave of enthusiasm come my way... but on the positive side I go so deep into certain subjects that I feel the serotonin and the dopamine take over… I get high on my hopes (Neptune) for the challenges (Mars) I give myself and I get high (in secret) when thinking about my passions in life – I keep them secret because I don´t feel other´s around me “understand” how deep my passion/interests really are – ok, I have a tendency to overdo things… and that is difficult to keep secret ;-)The combination in the 8th house is said to give sexual fantazies an extra boost… but don´t know what´s “normal”, so I just leave it at that ;-) No “shaky ground” with siblings or neighbourgs... but then I am a gullibly Piscean ;-)

My 8th house is on Gemini cusp .. all I have there is Lilith, Vertex, and Chiron. I don't feel like I have trouble with 8th house issues at all, in fact 8th house issues are what interest me most and I put a lot of energy into researching, talking, and thinking about those things. I like to dabble in it all. But I do have some significant Scorpio influence that might affect that.------------------

hrmm.. looking at your Sun sign, do you feel like the 8th house sign from it represents a sign that often gives you a headache?ie, for me "Virgo’s self-perfecting fussiness is shocked by Aries’ attitude of “just do it!”" i do find myself a bit taken aback by the Ariean.. but I also have my north node in Aries which might represent some lack of power in this area.. but I have felt like the Ariean way of doing things can be a bit rash.. I read an article... "Does Astrology point to a new Sexuality?" Mentiones a bit about the 8th house..."Drawing metaphorically on the other meanings of the 8th house, sex does involve surrender, and so does death -- and in French, orgasm is called the petit mort, or little death. That is a big clue. And sex is often an interaction with someone else. Most astrologers would associate orgasm with an 8th house experience of surrender to another." ...little death - so cute! The 8th house-topic ... yeah! I DEFINITELY feel like an 8th house-person!!! Sometimes I can handle it better, sometimes worse.It's my "largest" house (with the 2nd) and my Sun-sign CANCER is intercepted in the 8th. I have three important planets there: SUN and MARS cj in Cancer - and MERCURY in Leo. And - as mentioned above - my 8th house cusp is on 29 dg GEMINI - so the GEMINI-factor is very much stressed in my 8th (because of that very strong cusp- degree in that sign). BUT: I still haven't figured out how this GEMINI-influence REALLY contributes to my relationship/bonding behaviour ... (???) Apart from that, I feel very(!)SCORPIO all over - not only because of the packed 8th house, but because my ASC is in SCORPIO as well and my PLUTO (ruler of SCORPIO) is prominently placed in the 10th house. My PLUTO also forms strong aspects to vital planets like:
- PLUTO sxt. SUN
- PLUTO sxt. MARS
- PLUTO sxt. ASC
- PLUTO cj. MC
- PLUTO trine SATURN
- PLUTO square MOON Actually, PLUTO (the SCORPIONIC planet) definitely is my chart ruler, and a strong one - but I do feel a contradiction to that GEMINI-influence on the cusp of the 8th, that "lightheartedness" on the gate of the classical SCORPIO/PLUTO domicile ... It is one of the "riddles" I am trying to solve myself, these contradictory influences, sometimes this seems to confuse me. IP: Logged |
