has anyone noticed the way air signs laugh... i am thinking of 3 people in particular - a Libra, an Aquarius, and a Gemini with plenty of other air in themselves (though all have either water or earth moons) and they have such _exaggerated_ laughs... you can hear them from a mile away.

as a modest earthy type, it always sounds so showy to me. but hey perhaps im misunderstanding things.. but have you guys noticed how loud and exaggerated and extreme their laughter tends to be?

My pa has a stellium of planets in Taurus in the 2nd house. That's quite earthy but it includes Sun Conjunct Uranus and close by orb. He's not greatly motivated by what people think. In social situations he can be incredibly loud, including an odd cackling laugh.

The loudest laughers in my life are fire signs. Mind you I can laugh like a drain but it's very rarely 'for show' (Libra). It's because I find something truly funny.
And I consider myself modest too.....

Nobody can top Leo laughters. When my dad laughs -bless him- my ears ache.

Libra here. My laughs are not normally loud, unless I find something really funny, but it'll come out more like a snort - hardly "showy", I think. In fact, I get very embarrassed, and pretend that the sound didn't come from me.

An aqua friend hardly laughs - she chuckles. Two geminis I know - one is the laugh-out-loud type, the other is pretty quiet, soft-spoken, and has a very polite laugh. A libra colleague does the "heh" or at most "heh heh" kind of laugh.

An Aries cousin, on the other hand, laughs really loud, very hearty with her mouth wide open (not that I know any other way people can give hearty laughs). And there are these really loud Leo and Sag guys I know who not only laugh really loud, but complete with thumping of tables and slapping of thighs. Maybe they're just being guys?

But I mostly find fire signs having the loudest laughs. Oh wait, there's this Pisces at work who likes to laugh a lot and laugh really loud. The littlest thing seems to amuse her.

I have to agree that the Aqua's I know laugh really loud and it's delayed. You make a joke they sit there for a minute then they bust out laughing. it's kind of funny!

Leo's I gotta say have an obnoxious laugh. Definitely showy. I'm not being mean My mom and sister are leo's I love them to dearly but MY GOD! haha

I have a very hearty laugh, I find everything funny. Life is funny so I do it often. But I embarrass myself with the way I laugh..It's just there. You can't help but here my big mouth. I think it's my Aries moon that it just comes out. I can't control myself as much as my Scorpio rising would like me too. haha

When I get going I've got a right loud cackle!!! Taurus Sun/Aquarius Moon/Leo rising?!

My double Libra friend has the one of the best laughs I've ever heard - she also has Leo rising! Air and fire it seems. Interesting....

yup Silverfairy, def agree with that.

i dont have any experience with over the top Leos and the Aries people I know are actually quite shy types. Theres this Gemini fellow though - he starts laughing, his mouth gaping open, till his face turns red and it begins to sound like hiccups. By then everyone will be staring at him, wondering, but he'll keep going with the act, even if its only him. really seems to like the attention. my Libra friend also sounds like shes hurting her throat when she's doing it. Sometimes i feel like people laugh super hard to hide how down theyre feeling inside - my perspective. to me, it appears really revealing. i wonder if this is a trend other people notice.

I don't think air signs have interesting laughs. They rationalize and explain their feelings too much to laugh well. Water signs, particularly cancers (or cancer moons) know how to really laugh without controlling themselves. I don't like air sign laughter, it's lame.

I laugh pretty loudly and obnoxiously. I have a grand trine in Air between my Sun (Aquarius), ASC (Gemini) and Moon (Libra).

House-elf: Air sign people are not robots.

I live with a loud [which is obnoxious to me] Libra. She's certainly the loudest female I've ever encountered, and definitely one of the loudest people I've ever encountered. I would characterize her laughter as genuine.

I haven't noticed an exaggerated laugh amongst the Geminis and Aquarians I know. Sags sometimes.

I know a Libra at work who's big on an almost fake manner of laughing. It's kind of short and choppy (ah huh huh huh). She's not a particularly loud Libra, though... and she does have a more genuine giggle that comes out at times. I think the choppy one is kind of like her one-of-the-fellas kind of laugh. You know, she inserts it when she thinks there should be a laugh but nothing genuine is making it's way out.

Hmmm... I don't know that I've noticed that air signs have particularly loud laughs. However, my mom is an Aqua, and she does have a loud laugh. My Aqua guy friend doesn't have a loud laugh at all, but he does snort when he really truly laughs. lol. He's self-conscious about it, but I think it's cute.

Oddly, I've been complimented on my laugh many times. I don't feel like I have a particularly loud laugh, and certainly, when I laugh it's always genuine, never for show. However, I've been told that people know I'm coming because they can hear me laughing as I'm walking down the hall (and that's about the time they usually compliment me on my laugh). I guess I have a very unique, pleasant-sounding laugh... At least it's not obnoxious.

I do have an Aries moon and a lot of fire. I think a lot of it though, has to do with the fact that I have Jupiter in the 1st in Sagittarius. Gives me a good sense of humor and an appreciation for humor as well.

hey DainBramaged,

i dont know- my instincts just don't tell me its genuine. i mean, its possible of course that i'm talking about some weird cases and you are talking about some other cases which don't match up and in reality we would agree with each other- but i think we are talking about the same kind of laugh.

like for example, my old Aquarius friend- someone would say something and he would just started shrieking laughter. i always wanted to be like "oh come gimme a break. it wasnt that funny." it really seemed like attention seeking and an effort to make other people notice that he was having an *awesome* time and he is such a *fun* guy.

i would confront him about it, and he would always tell me the same- that its genuine. it never sounded like that to me though! it really felt way fake. as if he couldnt wait to get something excited about and just exploded at the opportunity to show other people how much of a good time he has.

the cancers ive met are usually funny people who dont laugh much themselves but set the people around them laughing for hours. as if admist a storm, theyll sit there quietly sipping a beer or something. they have an incredible eye for social commentary.

funniest people? geminis are really witty but i got to give it to Aqua-Cancer combos as the funniest people ive met

also disclaimer - i have a Cap Asc and am very earthy, so although its not that i dont like to laugh.. i love to laugh.. but i will only do it if i really feel it. im not concerned about proving to others that they were funny. im not even concerned if i have been laughing during a jovial gathering like a party or not - as long as i am true to how i really feel inside. this is so important to me. i always feel like i get this red-light alert beacon when i hear the guy on the other side of the room overdoing it. it makes me wonder "what's he trying to prove?"
haha.

Different people find different things funny. Just because you don't feel it, doesn't mean another person doesn't.

I've found that I like very witty, high humor and will laugh out loud at that type of humor ESPECIALLY if I think of some other experience or joke and then I'll start laughing at it even more. So I'll laugh even when others don't. However, when there is a lot of crude humor, I don't laugh at all, because I genuinely don't find it funny, but I know that other people do. Does that make their laughter fake? No.

There are also people who have genuinely loud obnoxious laughter. Once they start laughing, they can't seem to stop, even at small jokes.

Is there another reason why you think these people are fake, aside from the loud laughter? Like other attention seeking behaviors? I mean, it's always possible that it is true that they are exaggerating, but I think you should exhaust all methods of inquiry before settling on a conclusion.

Besides, if your friend says that he's not exaggerating (and really is not) and keeps getting complaints from you, chances are he's not going to be your friend for long. It seems just a smidge nitpicky and petty to be picking on people's laughs. Even if he is exaggerating, what does it matter to you?

If your friend is acting like that, it's not hurting you in any way that I can see, so... ???? I'm really not sure what point you're trying to make. Are you trying to say that the air signs with earth or water moons have fake laughs and are therefore fake? Or??? Do you think he's ruining your reputation with his laugh (because you hang out with him of course and he draws a lot of attention to himself and therefore you)? If that's the case, that's your problem as far as I can see.

Anyway, I'm just playing devil's advocate. The air signs that I've known are genuine in their laughter. Some of them loud, some of them are not. We all have different senses of humor, so it's never bothered me. I can't say that I've experienced what you've experienced, and even if I did, it probably wouldn't make a difference to me anyway.

Sometimes when I laugh I can't stop. My best friend is a Leo and she's this way too.

The Aquarians I knew weren't the "fun" type so they didn't laugh too much. It's all their feelings being repressed or something.

I realized today that all of the little kids in my life are air signs.

My nephew is a Gem with a Libra Asc. On my SO's side, his nieces are both Libras. My nephew is 6, the Libras are 5 and 8.

All 3 kids are visiting this weekend, and when I was with them earlier, I noticed what precious, infectious laughs they have. They all break into giggles that just won't quit. But their laughs are so cute and genuine.

So I thought of this thread and I imagined what these kids will be like when they grow up. Maybe self-consciousness will kick in and they'll inhibit their laughs b/c it's not cool to express so much joy?

Really, there's no easy way to know who the actor is. The quieter person may just be inhibited.

I hope they keep laughing like this b/c it's one of my favorite sounds.
