Is here anyone who knows more about Vedic astrology?

I have delved myself into it a little bit over the weekend, but of course there`s SO much that I don`t understand, because it is so different from the Western astrology.

Does anyone know good sites where i can learn how to interprete a chart with a Vedic approach?

For example: I looked into my Vedic chart:

Sun: Sagittarius / 2nd house
Moon: Capricorn / 3rd house
Mercury: Sagittarius / 2nd house
Venus: SAgittarius / 2nd house
Mars: Scorpio / 1st house
Jupiter: Aquarius / 4th house
Saturn: Gemini / 8th house
Rahu (NN): Scorpio / 1st house
Lagna (ASC): Scorpio

Now I have several questions: I looked up the nakshatra of my Moon and it is Dhanishta (the same as Marylin Monroes`s and Lady Di`s - ouch, we all know how HAPPY they were).

My questions concerning this:

1. Do I only look at the Moon`s nakshatra or also at the nakshatra of other planets or the Lagna?

2. What could it mean to have a Moon in Capricorn in Dhanishta nakshatra in the 3rd house without asepcts?
I think it might not be a very beneficial position, am I right?
Moon is also ruling the 9th house.

3. Regarding the aspects I read that the Vedic astrologers only count conjunction and opposition as aspects (whole-sign aspects always) and that there are some special aspects for:
Jupiter: trines backwards and forwards

Mars: the forward square (ex: Mars in Libra to a planet in Cappy) and backward quinkunx (Mars in Libra to a planet in Taurus)

Saturn: the forward sextile (ex: Saturn in Gemini and planet in Leo) and the backward square (SAturn in GEmini and planet in Pisces)

So, they use the whole sign aspects and only those mentioned aspects, but in a relationship analysis they mentioned some sort of synastry which uses an orb of 5° and all ptolemaic aspects, the Tajika analysis.
Now this got me confused. What is right now?

4. Difficult houses
Well, the 6th, 8th and 12th houses are said to be difficult houses, which are malefic for the person, and so is any planet in there or their rulers.
The 5th and 9th houses are said to be the most auspicious houses.

So in my case, Mercury rules the 8th house and the 11th house, so it becomes the planet that will bring challenges and difficulties into my life, right?
Also, Venus rules the 7th and 12th house and Mars rules the 6th and 1st house.

The rulers of the 12th and 6th houses would be malefic, I think, but what if Mars is in Scorpio and also ruling the 1st house, would it strengthen it?
Or does that only mean that it is malefic AND strong? (Sounds sorta "evil" to me)

5. I also have three Sagittarius-planets (Sunm, Mercury, Venus) in the 2nd house. Interestingly, in Vedic the 2nd house is also about writing and teaching (right?), and I am a teacher, but those planets are beeing opposed by retograde Saturn in Gemini in 8th house, which sounds like a VERY bad position.
How would that play out?

I really hope someone can help me with the answers or direct me to a site, where I can learn more about it.

Thanks.

DD

Diandra,

thank you for the link. It`s a great site.
But actually I am looking for some explanation, how a vedic analysis is done systematically, or at least some backgroundinformation about the meaning of the houses for example, which are quite different from the Western perspective.

I don`t know a site where you can do your Vedic chart, but I went to astro.com and chose the sidereal zodiac (Hindu / Lahiri), so you know your planetary positions.
One important thing is that Vedic asterologers apparently work with whole sign houses, which means that the sign of your ascendant is your 1st house, the house after that the 2nd.

EX:
Ascendant: Scorpio
1st house: Scorpio
2nd house: Sagittarius

Planets in Scorpio would be in 1st house, regardless of the exact degree of the asc.

For ex:
My Mars is in 11° Scorpio, my ASC is 13° Scorpio, but according to the Vedic system Mars would be in 1st house, even though it is technically BEFORE the ASC.

Hi Diandra,

I actually discovered that site just yesterday; wanted to post it today, but you were faster than me.

"well i know the 1st one that will come to your Mind hihihi"
I have no idea what or whom you are talking about.

However, of course I did a comparision with both musicmen and especially with the guy, who seems to have strong synastry with me, no matter what system I try out.
And I did some others comparision just for fun.

And really, most of the results were REALLY poor. LOL
But of those results the result with that guy with the neat synastry with me were actually on the better side.

Free Horoscope Matching Result

No. Koota Meaning Max. Score Your Score
1 Varna Indicates ego development between the partners. 1 0

2 Vashya Indicates the intensity of mutual attraction and affection between the couple. 2 0.5

3 Taara Indicates the health, longevity and well-being of the couple. 3 3

4 Yoni Indicates biological compatibility and satisfaction. 4 3

5 Graha-Maitri Indicates compatibility in outlook, objective, intellectual level and spiritual plane of existence. 5 5

6 Gana Indicates the compatibility of temperamental characteristics. 6 6

7 Bhakoota Indicates Socio Economic Status, Progenic happiness, growth of the family and family-welfare 7 7

8 Naadi Signifies the duration of married life, the health(outward physique) and constitution(internal metabolism). 8 0

Total 36 24.5

Of course to spoil the fun significantly, there the value for Naadi is extremely poor, and so a marriage is not advisable. (Not that a marriage was planned. lol)

But interestingly the result for sexual attraction (Yoni) is rather high; I didn`t expect that. But then again seeing his Yoni animal is Tiger and mine is lion, I should have foreseen that result.

Seriously, I wouldn`t take these match making calculators too seriously, after all they compare ONLY the moon. PRobably you would have to do the same thing for ASC and Venus at least, and maybe for the ruler of your 7th house.

I made such a Kuta analysis (that is what they are doing on the site) for my parents, who have been married for over 30 years, quite happily.
And their results are extremely poor.
Their endresult is 12, AND they also have a Naadi of 0 points,w hich usually indicate a very shortlived marriage.

Let me repeat: They have been married for 34 years this year, and neither of them has suffered serious healthproblems.

BTW maybe this site is interesting for you, too:
http://www.geocities.com/cupofmagic/LearnAstrology/Compatibilty/Matching.html

They explain here HOW such an analysis is done by hand.
