I decided to check out Eris during the time that the first African slaves were traded to the English colonists in Jamestown,Virginia by the Dutch. They were the cargo that originally belong to the Portuguese who were the Europeans that started and dominated the Tranatlantic slave trade.

I used the asteroids 11207 Black,1193 Africa,6391 Africano,8766 Niger for pertaining to Black/African American.
asteroids 10730 White,4478 Blanco for pertaining to White/European American
asteroid 3933 Portugal for the Portuguese
asteroid 1132 Hollandia for the Dutch
asteroid 3811 Karma for Karma

African American Slavery

This is the astrological representation of the moment when the first shipment of African slaves were offloaded at Jamestown, Virginia. The chart itself is based on the research of well known Mundane Astrologer Marc Penfield, seen in the book "Astrology Looks at History", edited by Noel Tyl, 1995, in the chapter called, "Lincoln, The South & Slavery".

Mu'Min Bey calls it the chart representing Black America. When he does charts pertaining to Black America,he checks out synastry, transits to the Black America chart.
That's what he did with Barack Obama in his blog entry above.

I couldn't help comparing my chart to the Black America chart because of my Black ancestry from my father's side. I am part Portuguese from my maternal grandfather whose father changed the surname from Andrade to Andrews. I feel that the reason that I was born from an interracial relationship between a white woman and black man was to easily learn the lessons of racial tolerance, interracial harmony as well as my belief in unity and universal love which I feel is reflected by my Moon in Pisces which I feel that I inherited from my father and my maternal grandfather. Of course, I defy the "pick one box" rule, and so I refuse to embrace the one drop Black rule which NAACP is all for.

Black America's Eris in 11'14 Gemini in my 10th:
conjunct my Midheaven in 11'14 Gemini
sextile my Africa in 11'15 Aries Retrograde in 8th
sextile my Eris in 12'15 Aries Retrograde in 8th

Interesting note: Sabian Symbol for 12 Gemini is A BLACK SLAVE-GIRL DEMANDS HER RIGHTS OF HER MISTRESS

Keywords: Rising above conditioning and limitations. Standing up for one's self. Demanding better treatment. Seeking Recognition and self-respect. Being in chart one's life. Breaking away from oppression. Wanting a raise in pay or conditions. The need for freedom. Desiring property and rewards. Rising up from an "underdog position" position or situation. The quest for identity.

The Caution: Feeling hard done by. Being demanding. Blaming others. Bucking authority. Demanding to be recognized or noticed. Feeling used and abused. Oppression and slavery. Jealousy and envy. Exploitation.

It seems to me that Sabian Symbol Degree could pertain to civil/equal rights matters, advocacy(standing up for one's self and others),Affirmative Action,Reparations,Race Relations

This Chart fascinates me for a number of reasons...

I am the descendant of african slaves who were subjected to slavery for at least 4 generations.
Personally, I love history, and I've never ever been more passionate about anything as I am about knowing where you came from and how that affects where you're going. That said, studies of Antebellum america and the African Salve trade are #1 on my list of interests and passions...That's why this intrigued me so

My Vertex is conjunct BA's Uranus *exact
My Moon is conjunct BA's Venus/MC/Karma *1 degree
My Sun/Pluto conjunction sits on BA's Ascendant *1 degree
My Mars (which rules my 4th house) sits on BA's IC *less than one degree
My AC is opposite BA's Eris by *1 degree
My 12th house Saturn in Sag exactly squares BA's Sun

Natally, I've got Africa conjunct the MC *exact
And I've got Black conjunct my NN *1 degree
My Sun/Africa midpoint is conjunct my South Node *exact
Sun/Black midpoint falls directly opposite the Vertex (exact)
Mars (4th ruler)/Africa falls on my Saturn in the 12th house
Mars/Black is conjunct my chart ruler Jupiter in Pisces

The TSquare with Venus-Mars-Pluto/Moon is also exact on my natal Tsquares, making a tremendously powerful Grand Cross ...that echoes through my succedent houses (go figure).

Amazing connections...

How brutal is that 1st house?

Scorpio ruling, indicating not just something criminal and cruel, but very black and white, very extremist, both rulers opposed..Pluto in Taurus, something that will take lifetimes to overcome, also hinting at a purely economic system no matter how ruthless (Mars/Pluto)... conjunct the Moon (people, families, heredity)...Pluto in the 7th total destruction/oppression of other people ..Mars in the 1st house in Scorpio is given tremendous power ...makes all "hard" aspects....) ...also ruling the 6th house of servants and manual work...in Aries = violence... Ceres in Capricorn= denial, restriction in the 3rd of knowledge and at the extreme, identity...

very interesting and informative angle Glaucus. he has some very good insights.

thoughtful words ~

quote:
For Whites, although many won't or can't openly admit this, Obama is attractive as a candidate because while he is Black, he isn't "too Black" - he doesn't have the connection to, and therefore, the possible feelings of resentment from, Slavery, and all that occured in the decades since. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton represent that "edge" from that past, that makes Whites very nervous about giving their vote to such a person, among other things.

i had never thought of this. Obama is a bright star, who will revitalize our nation, regardless of these issues. i'm keeping a vigil for his victory.

Hi all,

Very interesting post!

I’m just wondering, would the chart have connections to all African Americans as the majority of them are descended from slavery?

How does this chart impact on West Africans, those who watched as their family were stolen from their homeland?

Niger, Im not too sure about this but I was taught that the majority came from Ghana, Nigeria, the Congo & Angola. There was passege through the Niger delta, but few were taken from Niger(which is in West Africa - pronounced Nee-jeere),

The slave trade is something that I have an interest in, although I’m not a direct descendant of slaves, being a West African, my ancestry is no-doubt ties up with its history.

I don't know if that's an accurate statement. The reality is that a large percentage of them don't truly know where they've descended from. And so, given with this country's history, the country in which they currently reside, one can only make assumptions that they are a descendant from slavery.

Only reason I knew I was is because of the "mysterious" appearance of a family tree... many years ago. It disappeared almost as soon as it showed up, but I remembered quite a bit from it.

I would agree that a large percentage of African Americans don’t know where *exactly* they have descended from, however the likelihood is they have descended from somewhere in Africa. Hence the name *African* American meaning of African decent.

The major influx of Africans on American soil came during the transatlantic slave trade.

It would be interesting to know if there are any other African Americans who also have connections to the chart.

BTW - thanks for the clarity about Niger

Glaucus,

What about progressing this chart or even "regressing" natals to compare?

Alana...do you remember any of the dates/times and places of your ancestors by chance? I'm wondering if you regressed your chart to a specific year/time what the comparisons might be.

Alanabelle,

Your synastry with Black Africa chart is amazing!

I didn't think of using asteroid midpoints in the synastry. I should check that out.

Fascinating information. Thanks Glaucus.

At first, I didn't agree that this was the chart of Black America, but as I superimposed it over the Gemini rising chart of the US, it makes a lot of sense to me.

Black America's first house would fall into the US' 6th house, which makes sense, as the 6th house is traditionally seen as the house of servants and slaves.

Black America's Pluto would fall in the US 12th house, hence the hidden and not so hidden fears and irrationalities about blacks. Pluto is there as the dark lord, below the subconcious, like an atomic bomb ready to explode, threatening to reveal America's dirty secrets. Ha!!

It's interesting that the Saturn of black America would fall in the US'first house. Saturn there would try to compel Americans to be more mature, also more self conscious. Gemini rising likes to be airy, flighty, uncommital, playful, but Saturn there would lend an air of seriousness.

There is more to be said. By the way, I choose Gemini as the rising sign for the US, not Sagg as some astrologers do. I feel that 9/11 has definitely established Gemini as the correct rising sign and put the question to rest.

DNA analysis and historians generally agree that most blacks in the America descend from the Western Portion of Africa. It makes sense too, given where Im from in the East; we were generally untouched by the Transatlantic Slave trade and really doing our business with various Asian traders.

It is important to keep in mind that through slavery "Black America's" ethnicity was lost. The majority of "African-Americans" today are of a mixed ancestry, the same as Caucasians are. Also, I think that people like myself hesitate to assume all Black people are from Africa because there are several hispanic and tropical islands from which "Black" people descend from, that may look African to the general population. For example, Jamaica, Haiti, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic. I myself, am mixed with Native American and God knows what else, my grandfather had light green eyes and wavy hair. Though he would be considered "African-American" it's not really accurate, it's like saying the one drop of blood makes you black, or West African.

Yeah, but all those people on the islands are also of African descent (from slaves). I agree with you though that the term African-American due to skin color is kind of erroneous though being that their culture is totally different from even West African culture now....never mind the East, Suth, and North. It also implies that all Africans are [totally] black which couldn't be further from the truth.

"For example, Jamaica, Haiti, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic."

The countries that you mention also had an influx of Africans during the slave trade. So they also have African ancestory -

Im not denying or negating the mixture of other races in African Americans or Caribbeans -

My main point was that African Americans are likely to have African ancestry irespective of if its 5% or 99% of Afican DNA, this therefore suggests that they decend from slavery & could have links to the African American chart.

The majority of slaves (85%) during the slave trade ended up in Brazil and south America. A small percentage of of the 85% ended up in the tropical islands. My father's side of my family landed here in slavery in June 1827 (I forgot which date exactly, I'll have to dig up my family tree). So i believe that most African Americans in fact, do come from
african ancestry. Just like most dark skinned people, even though they sometimes don't want to admit it, have African ancestry. Racism is a nasty disease that needs curing. Unfortunately, its a nasty thing that continues to perpetuate. I'm black and I love all people. I only have problems with individuals that have a problem with me. How one "race" can think they are better than another is absolutely ridiculous and borne from insecurity and laziness of the mind.
