How do you guys go about starting conversation about astrology with people you just met? Me, being a gemini i, I usually start it off with a playful, let's see if I can guess your sign type of game. Usually every female plays along. I don't ask guys LOL!

What about you guys, how do you initiate the convo?

I don't really talk about it much outside of this forum. Sometimes to my husband if he is in the shower/on the throne or somewhere where he can't run away. His eyes glaze over, though. Kind of like mine when he tells me about the inner workings of his computer.

I find subtle ways of finding out when people's birthdays are so I can have a good old astro-snoop. Most people don't know their time of birth here but sometimes they do. After they've had a few ales is always a good time. Chances are they will have forgotten next day. After all, there's no point having a secret snoop if they know about it, is there?

I kind of "check" the atmosphere first... if people would be ok with it. But I find it very difficult going to a social gathering and NOT mention astrology... like an alcholic going to an all-night-free-drinking party and not even have a taste ;-)

My ex-boyfriend (who said he didn´t believe in astrology, but he sure read my astrology books when I wasn´t around...) used to say to me at social gatherings: Hey, "Skybound" do your "party-piece"... and then the going got tough... he, he, he...

But I have noticed that astrology can indeed be a turn-off for some guys... you immediately sense the Witchofobic tendencies in the air... *lol*

yeah man, what's the deal with the witchophobery anyway? when people don't "believe" in astrology, it's like you're some zealot and they must deflect your evil penetrating witchery vibes with all their might! i have a few people in my life who don't believe in it and they are SO adament against it. i rarely even bring it up, except in a lighthearted "hey we can giggle about this together" kinda way, and they get immediately roused and defensive. well, i guess their respective religious views don't allow for it. but it's weird. oh and even worse, people who don't "believe" in astrology tend to think people who do are REALLY naive and foolish and flakey. so that's always fun..

but still, with most people i tend to bring it up. i don't have many qualms about it. i usually just say "hey, when's your birthday?" and go with it if they do, or forget it if they get weird.

That is right you do get treated like a foolish, flake, in a 1970's "Hey, baby what's your sign?" kind of way by the people who do not believe. Those people perk up though if you ever have them read a Linda Goodman book. They become interested but would never admit it.

The main attitudes I come across are either outwardly sceptical but might believe more than they let on, or they are dismissive of astrology as the Sun sign kind they find in the paper is too general - but they might be interested to find out more. It would be a rare day you would come across a English person who objected on religious grounds.

I just get drunk, then my Gemini moon comes out. Then, I need no reason to start a conversation up with anyone about anything...

As a guy, I find that talking to women about it is pretty cool. I find it uncomfortable to bring it up to dudes. I'm as straight as they come and really don't have a problem speaking about it with anyone but I found dudes think your a flake ( no offense)

I dont see Astrology as having any religious connection, for me it is just a tool to understand my fellow humans. It makes things easier when you have Astrology as a tool to understand people a bit better.

I just wish more people would talk to me about Astrology girls and guys lol

Some people are ok, but others are really really not into it I find, mumbo jumbo they usually say.

Don't do what I did this weekend and guess an old Virgo lady's sign. LOL. I think she is still traumatized. I knew she was because she was so well dressed and matchy matchy. You would've thought I knew her social security number or something the way she acted. Her eyes got so big. She said, "well, do you know me or something, have I met you before"? It was like a twilight zone moment for her. She was creeped out something awful, I could tell.

With guys though, I've NEVER found anything better to break the ice and get their interest.

I used to defend astrology – which often meant heated discussions with those anti-astrology.

Nowadays I can't care less if someone doesn´t share the same views about astrology as me – it´s their loss (while I´m having a great time! .

Although it buggs me to hear anti-astro beings defending their views that astrology is mumbo-jumbo without even having a clue about what the Ascendant is... if they put so much effort in putting pro-astrology people down and the knowledge of astrology, why not at least put some effort in learning about what they are fighting against/about.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I was just watching a youtube vid of a guy bashing astrology. He is an idiot because he was lumping horoscopes and astrology in the same category. He was also trying to say that it is impossible to categorize all humans into only 12 categories. -As soon as he said that I knew he didnt know what he was talking about. There are an infinite number of chart configurations out there, not just twelve.

yeah, that is what i find so funny/weird about those opposed to it. most (all?) really know next to nothing about it. i guess ignorance gives a more secure feeling than opening up to ~~other possibilities~~ (wooooo woooo...)

most of the people against it that i've met have done so on religious grounds. it's satanic, don't you know.

“most of the people against it that i've met have done so on religious grounds. it's satanic, don't you know.”

Yeah, astrology …. soo very satanic isn´t it? Don´t we all have rituals dancing naked under the full moon in the forrests worshipping the devil before we get comfortable in front of our computors and get spell bound in front of an astro.com computorgenerated chart… or am I the only one?? *lol*

Some I have had discussions with have done it on religious ground, but those aren´t the worst – the worst are those who aren´t open to anything except their own existance and the way they look down on you as if you were stupid because you are open to astrology. I hate that… when they go quiet as if “ok, no use talking to you anymore dumb ass…”

I do respect other´s if they don´t “believe” in astrology – hey, it might even be meant that there should be a group of sceptics since it might be a pretty dangerous world out there if everybody did believe in it and it wasn´t used it a correct way… I mean I would for sure be out of a job if they only read my natal chart instead of my CV… (oh, jaysus…!) or kicked into a reahab center for life… (neptune´s influences looks quite hardhitting on paper!)…*lol*

No, it´s ok with sceptics as long as they know what they are sceptic about.

Got Gemini,

Thats so typically geminish that I do it sometimes, but I keep it to myself more.

I enter a room take note of how people act then make a match to what sign they are based on the description.

Then I find comfirmation if I was right by finding out there Bday, and start going on with it.

example I just found out today that that flirty girl thats always in the lab is a Leo.

She's always in typical "Leo places on the weekends". So then I go on a say "Busy this weekend, that is so Leoish".

At least that way I can prove the accuracy of Astrology at the same timer, there are alot of skeptics.

It's always a good icebreaker with girls.
With the guy I'm interested in, I LOVE to do the astro-snoop after finding out his birthday.
And it helps a lot with the cancerian I'm having the hots for right now ; )

Only on Tuesdays. Any other time is just plain wrong.

hehe... the trouble with "when's your birthday?" is that you can get anything from the day and month, to the month, to "it was earlier" or "later" this year...oh "in a few months" too!
which leads to more guess work!

I don't do this anymore.

I did it when I was younger.

THen I realized it made people judge me and form an impression of me as some hippy or weirdo, which as a capricorn rising i am NOT ok with.

I ferret out their birthday stealthily and then put in the vault.

I may casually mention horoscopes to see their reaction. It really depends on the scenario though. I've noticed that young women tend to like to talk about astrology. WOmen in general are far more receptive. Women that seem super logical will proably be over it, but not always.

I once had an aquarius rooommate who was a law student. Logical as they come, but she loved astrology.
