There is alot of talk on here about small and obscure asteroids and how essential they are in relationships. I think many look to them when the more basic planets come up short on synastry with a sig other. Unfortunately, asteroids can only enhance what is already there with the basic inner planets and houses. That said, I have done alot of research and have found the 4-5 major asteroids to be the major players in relationship and marriage synastry again and again. Ceres, vesta, pallas, juno most of all. There is a scheme going on as has been pointed out in the iris report. I previously saw these asteroids as being higher octaves of the inner planets and they may be in some way but and even better metaphor for them is as lower octaves of the outer planets.

All the asteroids have a lunar feel to them in my opinion and have been rightfully linked to the feminine and relating. Incredibly there are only four which are considered to be the most major asteroids by astronomers. They are called the "big four." Similarly there are only four giant planets. Would it be a stretch to say the big four asteroids parallel the four gas giants? I think it makes sense. The iris report suggests the following:

Ceres is the a female jupiter.

Vetsa is the female saturn.

Pallas is the female uranus.

Juno is the female pluto.

Hygiea, the last of the "big four" makes sense as the female neptune.

Looking further, I think its critical when comparing bodies and considering them as octaves - to look at the physical properties of the planet in question to see if they resemble the octave planet. AMAZINGLY, these minor planets consistently resemble their outer counterparts.

Ceres is the largest and most spherical asteroid. It is the only one classified as a dwarf planet. It contains a THIRD of the mass of the entire asteroid belt. A jupiter connection is obvious. Like jupiter, its orbit is not eccentric and stays fairly close to the eliptic. Its axis is not tilted and is close to being exactly straight at the EXACT same angle as jupiter: 3 degrees. Ceres is also bluish with some brown and red, similar in color to jupiter.

Vesta is flattened like saturn and is considered by many to be the second largest asteroid. Saturn is the second largest planet. Saturn's rotational axis is 27 degrees and vesta's is 29. Vesta, like saturn has an orbit that has low eccentricity and is not inclined to the eliptic as other asteroids are. Saturn is one of the fastest rotating planets and vesta is the fastest rotating asteroid of the large asteroids - rotating in under 6 hours.

Pallas, is the third largest minor planet and like uranus has the most inclined orbit of any asteroid at 34 degrees. It also rotates almost on its side with an axial tilt of between 60-80. Just like uranus. It is also rather dim like uranus and was only discovered second because it was close to ceres when ceres was discovered in 1801. These similarities, along with its very mental focus make it a natural female counterpart to uranus.

Juno is one of the brightest asteroids for its size and has an extremely eccentric orbit like pluto. Pluto is also one of the brightest planets in the solar system with an albedo of around .6. Juno has a similar history to pluto. It is smaller than the big four yet was discovered earlier than the rest and is arguably the most well known asteroid. Its orbit is highly inclined to the eliptic like pluto at around 12 degrees.

Last, Hygiea makes the most sense as the inner counterpart to neptune. It is the last of the "big four", its orbit is in the outer belt, unlike the others - like neptune. It is one of the dimmest asteroids which goes with its quiet meditative quality. Neptune is a dark blue/purple which is the darkest of the gas giants. Hygiea has only a slightly eccentric orbit like neptune and stays pretty close to the eliptic. One of its most unique properties is its slow rotation. It takes almost 28 hours to make one rotation. Most asteroids rotate in around 6 hours. This slow rotation fits well with its meditative quality. Although neptune is not a slow rotator, venus is. It takes 243 earth days for one venus day. Both neptune and venus are receptive energies. In any case, I think hygiea fits as the inner neptune. I checked dozens of charts and invariably it shows up in charts where neptune either is already a significant player or would have been thought to be a stronger player than it is. For instance, someone I know who is very neptunian has neptune opposition sun at around 6 degrees. That is a wide orb. She has other aspects to outer planets which are stronger yet the neptune type energy seems to be very central in her life. She has hygiea exactly conjunct her sun and exactly quincunx her moon.

Oddly, as one of the largest asteroids, I havent seen much on hygiea astrologically. I think that may be because, like neptune, its energy is vague and unclear. It does not suggest one thing very clearly as juno and vesta do for instance. It deals with the hidden and the spiritual and perhaps is involved in bringing other worlds to this world, particularly to relationships, which is the essential asteroid domain.

I'm inclined to think there is a lot of truth in what you are saying here.

No, not really.
Well, of course I cannot speak for "all" people, but in those cases which I know there was actually quite strong basic synastry and on top of that there were interesting asteroid-aspects.

I do agree, that asteroids enhance what is already there.
I also would like to research the big four asteroids more. I have the feeling that at least Ceres and Juno figure strongly in synastry. Stronger than I would expect them to.

I agree. Juno and ceres are very common but I notice vesta by far more than any other asteroid in synastry of all types. Parents, partners, children and friends. Usually in tight aspect to the other person's sun, moon or venus.

After alot of careful thinking, I dont see the outer planets (uranus, neptune, pluto) as having any effect in personal relationships. They are transformative, not stable relating properties, as the inner planets are. Relationships can be obsessive without pluto, they can be on and off again without uranus and they can be boundariless and deceptive without neptune. I think the asteroids bring the outer planet energies to relationships in an intimate way. The big four representing the main outer planet energies.

Do you know John Yale? He has done some research on Vesta and believes she is a vital component in compatibility.

I myself have noticed quite some Vesta-influence on my relationships, but Vesta is almost on the ARiespoint on 1° Capricorn in my chart, so I guess this is an important position.

Regarding the outer planets: I definitely think they play an important role in synastry, but maybe us astrologers give too much weight to them. The inner planets still provide the basic insights.
And yet, I have seen the outer planets too often to ignore them.

But it could very well be, that the four big asteroids can function as a bridge to bring the outer planet energies to relationships.
I`d have to research that.

I agree and in fact, in synastry with my SO our most exact asteroid aspect is his Ceres conjunct my sun 0'05".

DD thanks for the link.

Ive seen John Yale's stuff on vesta. I noticed it before but he confirmed it. I agree with him - it is essential. I see it as a less oppressive version of saturn. More about committment and less about control. Vesta connections feel very organic - like the relationship was there already in a way. Its not romantic, just a committed feeling.

i agree that the asteroids can and actually enhance what it pops up in the sinastries - as far as iīve seen, most of them has Juno/Ceres quite strong

Juno as signifying comitted persons/wife or husband figure; and Ceres meaning nurturing, caring,a very mothering kind of love.

VenusDEIndia started a thread also about the higher Octaves of planets, correlating them to asteroids - but i didnt knew those comparisons that you talk in the Iris Report..

The importance of asteroids can vary from sinastrt to sinastry, according if they are tightly aspected in the natals.
But i also have found that in the sinastry of me and Johny , all those figure quite strongly, and looking to the conections, they make much sense.

my Ceres exact conj his Moon ( my Moon falls upon his 5th,the house of children versus nurturing) - his Ceres conjunct my jupiter(1š)

My Vesta trine his Moon/Saturn tight - Vesta,is assigned with Vows, then pops again the conection with the "feminine energie" - his Vesta oposes my Karma/Valentine

My Pallas skuare his Sun/SN and trine his karma - his Pallas sextile my Uranus, conj Hygiea

My Juno conj his Karma - his Juno trine my Venus

My Hygea conj his Jup/Pallas exact;trine NN;exact opose Karma - his Hygea trine my Moon;exact skuares NN/Vesta and oposes my Amor

Looking at the NATALS,there are indeed patterns that add basis to look at these asteroids in sinastry:

His Ceres is at his 5th,conj his Uranus/Mars and trine his ASC - in sinastry thereīs the conection between 5th matters and Moon also

His Vesta Itīs at his 7th,conj his Moon and trine his Valentine - in sinastry my own Vesta aspects his Moon

His Pallas cnj his Jup in the 4th

His Juno conj his URanus and trine his karma in the 6thcusp - again, pattern of juno/karma appearing in both charts

His Hygea is conj his own Amor ans skuares karma/vx/uran/Juno - again pattern in amor/Hygea appearing in both charts

My Ceres is retro in the 5th:trines my NN/VXand oposes karma/valentine - again, the 5th house matters pattern apearing

My Vesta is exact conj my NN in the 9th. Sextiles my karma - meaning a pattern here also

My Palas is retro in the 4th,trine Juno and Hygea - again here..a Hygea/Pallas pattern apearing in both vharts

MY Juno itīs in the 8th,opose saturn and trine sun and trine Amor - pattern between Amor/Hygea

My Hygea skuares karma/valentine/mars/ceres
