I am very curious on how much influence Sun and Mercury signs have on types of movies we enjoy.

As for me with Sun and Mercury in Scorpio, I love Suspense, Thriller and Action. Recently, I enjoyed The Prestige, The Departed, Casino Royale etc..

Any response with Sun Sign and Mercury Sign will be highly appreciated. [Edit] Would be cool to know your Moon and Neptune signs as well.

Sun

Mercury CNJ Venus

If given free reign the costume dramas come out. "Our Mutual Friend" was the last one I watched. 19th century stalking, blackmail, and violence. A bit of grit.

My reading tastes fun along similar lines. I like historical fiction but I like the gritty violent type, if it gets too mushy I might well lose interest.

Don't know how this fits in with the signs above. Gemini - I like films about people's lives, Taurus - I prefer it is realistic not a walk off into the sunset number. Why historical, I don't know, Cancer rules the 9th house. I'd have to think about how it all ties in.

Saturn sits on my Sun/Venus midpoint.

To quote CafeAstrology, "You dislike ostentatiousness, pretentiousness, and glamour."

Spot on. Though a certain individual on this forum accused me of being an uncultured peasant the truth is I have a low tolerance threshold for pretension.

Doesn't Neptune rule film? Mine is in the first house and is opposite the Sun/Mercury midpoint and according to CafeAstrology this suggests an appreciation for literature and poetry. True, but I am getting old so if the author disappears up his/her rectum after the fifth page I won't be there with him/her. Same for films, I am happy to switch off if I don't like it.

Sun/Mercury Aries

I like movies you have to pay close attention to. Movies that make you think. One with plenty of twists and turns.

NO HORROR MOVIES

I like a pretty wide variety of movies. I'm not much of a movie snob.

I'm not particularly drawn to horror or war movies. Horror movies aren't really scary, and there's generally a premise that's kind of lame. I have seen some great war films (Band of Brothers is probably my favorite). They're just not generally a genre I'm drawn to.

I like movies with quirky imagination like Amelie, Little Miss Sunshine, Better Off Dead, etc.

I like movies that take me out of my environment like The Pink Panther, Life is Beautiful, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, etc.

I like a bit of fantasy like the Chronicles of Narnia, The Golden Compass, Lord of the Rings, etc.

Anyway, I like comedies, romantic comedies, adventure, some sci-fi, dramas, stories of triumph, foreign films, art films, etc. Most of the time it doesn't matter to me.

Sun in Capricorn
Mercury in Sag

I would imagine Neptune may have something to do with this topic, and of course the Moon. What's a movie without an emotional connection? Then there's also the 5th house. I can see amongst these why my tastes are so diverse.

Blue Moon - Cool info on Neptune. I have it in Sag. It seems that's why I also enjoy adventurous movies that are comedy and funny.

lalalinda - Sounds fun ;-) Don't you just love to pay attention and feel like doing something in the movie itself? Mars loves to take actions.

The types of movies people enjoy tend to be similar to the type of books people enjoy. So even though Neptune rules films, I am not sure it is the main factor here. I see more Mercury, venus and moon as indicators of what types of movies people enjoy.

I have venus in Virgo, and mercury and moon in Libra, so I adore perfect murder plots, Columbo like type of whodunits (so Virgoan), movies in natural settings (earth), romantic movies, intellectual and artistic movies (Libra). WIth Chiron in Aquarius, I adore foreign movies, and movies that are quirky and out of the ordinary.

I don't like bloody slashers, ghostly creepy movies, war movies unless it has a message. Sci-fi can be okay if done properly, again, my Chiron in Aqua.

I like anything that's far from reality, so Sci-fi, comedies and chick flicks are my thing. I only watch serious movies if it's Oscar nominated, or if it is the work of someone I respect like Scorsese, Spielberg, Eastwood, Penn etc. I am a loyal person so I will watch their movies even if they suck.

My Mercury is in Libra (12th house)
My Moon is in Cancer (10th house)
My Neptune is in Sag (2nd House)

but for me, the love of fantasy/sci-fi and all things unreal could be due to Mercury (12th house) and Neptune (2nd house) being sextile to one another.

AG - you and I have the exact same taste in films.

I have Aqu sun and Aqu merc rx. These are in a t-square with uranus, saturn. Uranus is the apex planet. My moon is in libra/7th. I have an unaspected venus sag and aries AC (might explain Bond, Dirty Harry)

I quite like a lot of the old movies, I'm sure that has to do with rx merc and opp saturn.

Some of my favourites are:
* It happened one night (Clarke - sex god)
* Casablanca
* 39 Steps
* Gone With The Wind (Clarke again!)
* Ten Commandments
* Rear Window

These are the ones that I can remember off the top of my head.

Otherwise, I love Dirty Harry (I think Clint is totally hot in this), One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Saving Private Ryan, The Graduate, Grease. I love James Bond too, esp Goldfinger, Octopussy, OHMSS, Die Another Day

I hate sci-fi films; not sure if thats the uranus squaring the sun there. And I've noticed the Amelie is a perennial favorite (mentioned above); I hated that too.

I think my movie preferences have to do with my Sun (the hero we see ourselves as) and my Venus (our values).

My Sun is in Sag, so I like seeing a protagonist that is connected to something larger, and has lofty ideals they seek to bring to their personal life. I also like plenty of humor

My Venus is in Scorpio, so I also like my entertainment to have a taste of darkness. I like watching movies that examine the psyche, too.

And both of these make sense for my favorite show - Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Absolute favorite entertainment for life. I've also got and Aqua Moon, so my need for woman power is also met.

You know, Buffy doesn't really need to be justified by astrology, it's just plain fantastic. I remember my Sag ex once said he never got into it until after he started watching it with me (cause hello, I have it on all the time!). He admitted he had a hard time relating to a female lead, both as a guy and as a person who isn't used to seeing female leads. Now he's even into the comics

Hey I'm a Virgo Sun and Mercury, and I like stupid ones, scary ones (think Prom Night and other old-school ones, not crap like Texas Chainsaw, etc), romantic ones not so much really cause it's hard to make a not super cheesy one these days, and I like kind of mystery stuff. Maybe a couple of these people haven't heard of, I dunno.

-Scary Movie 3 - I know i know, but WATCH IT it's F***********in hilarious!
-While You Were Sleeping
-Little Women- tend to like newer winona ryder version
-Princess Mononoke
-Anne of Green Gables
-Joy Luck Club
-The Big Lebowski
-Mommie Dearest - this was my mom growing up, I swear to god
-Blazing Saddles
-The Unbearable Lightness of Being
-Waking Life

I can't choose just one or two!! oh god no!

I don't seek out novels to read for the most part. I enjoy watching the movies, though. I've never been a comic book reader either, but I'll watch the major movies made from them (Batman, Spiderman, and X-Men; not necessarily the lesser ones like Fantastic Four, Hellboy, etc.).

I prefer reading books for information.

I for one can't stand Buffy, Angel, Charmed or any of those teen fantasy shows.

My favorite movies are Clueless & Home Alone. I also like comedies from the 90s like Billy Madison, Dumb & Dumber, and Mrs. Doubtfire. And Just Friends, which isn't a very popular movie, but holy crap Ryan Reynolds is hilarious.

And I really love space action movies like Armageddon, Independence Day, & Starship Troopers (& and the Alien movies). And I LOVE zombie movies.

I really don't like "Oscar worthy" type movies, I generally find them really really boring.

As far as TV shows go, I like The Office, Battlestar Galactica, Project Runway and Futurama/South Park/Family Guy/old Simpsons.

My Sun and Mercury are conjunct Aquarius in the 9th.

I'm a movie buff, always have been. I try to avoid crap, which, for me, is usually a movie that has a poor screenplay. I highly value a good story, and even better if it's something a little different and quirky.

Any movie that has an a-ha moment in it (not the band ), y'know, something that makes some thoughts you've had floating around in your head come together and you finally get something you've been trying to understand...that's cool when that happens...and any movie that masterfully handles emotion, I appreciate that.

Although I like all kinds of movies, the type of movie that I almost always like is one that's dark, smart, and a little off-beat, with some humor. If it has that, I'm in love. But I also enjoy sweet, light movies too, as long as they're well done.

I love silly comedies. I think 3 of THE BEST MOVIES IN THE HISTORY OF CINEMA are Coming to America, Dumb & Dumber, and Anchorman.

And some of those 80's blockbusters will always have a special place in my heart, especially Back to the Future (first one only) and Indiana Jones.

I have
Sun & Neptune conj in Sag
Merc in Sco (conj Uranus)
Moon in Leo (square my Sco planets)
Pisces on the 5th, but no planets in that house

I am a movie buff also. I love all types of movies except cartoons. My favorite movie company is Focus Features (minus brokeback mountain), I love almost all their movies. I also like a lot of independent films too. I'll post up some of my favorites when I get home. I can tell you now that it favorite movie of all time is The Hunt For Red October. My second favorite of all time is Hav Plenty. Ive seen both of those almost 100 times each.

Btw, my sun and merc are both in Gemini.
