Friends, I am trying to understand how TV Commercials impact us psychologically. This is an interesting commercial about Porsche 911 Car. I believe it costs between 80K USD to 120K USD.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRbzJ0L1Zn8

What are your thoughts about this commercial? How did your Head, Heart or Soul feel? Did you find it funny? interesting? deep? crazy? stupid?

I would appreciate your response with Your Sun, Mercury and Moon signs.

--------------

As for me with everything in Scorpio - this was an amazingly deep commercial - it touched my Head, Heart and Soul. And, Porsche 911 is what I desire. FULL STOP :-)

Sun Virgo/Moon Cancer/Mercury Libra.

The add seems to be targeted at existing clients. This I get due to the pride it endeavors to instill in those who own Porsches already.

I feel also that it is targeted at Brand Loyal people who might be threatened by the new model, because it seems to reassure them that the same standard of Porsche stands the test of time.

The advert also emphasizes the concept of "making an investment" so it could appeal to older existing clients, like parents who would buy the car for their kids. It is targeted at middle class/upmarket income bracket.

And... it is also targeted at those who consider themselves ambitious.

Yeah, it for existing clients.

Although there is a kid in the advert, it is not an ad campaign targeted for the youth, but it is campaign that is targeted to those who pay the "youth's" bills. The bread-winner.

Also, there was no talk of safety of features, which means that this ad is all about brand pride, than selling the particular product.

I think it's too drawn out..takes too long to make its point. Too much fluff around the concept they're trying to convey. The only thing I liked was the cute comment the kid made: See ya in 20 years

It is long, i totally agree... but the natural step would be to cut it shorter after a few weeks, or days of flighting, and broadcast a compressed version of this one.

This one is more of the story teller, the one that evokes emotions. When they Porsche people feel that the public knows the advert concept, I am sure that they will cut is short.

Otherwise, it is too long.
And it wasn't funny/humorous. It was sweet ,bordering on cheesy. i saw the end coming a mile away. It was boring. it didn't make me want to buy a Porsche. It made a car known for it's sportiness seem like a station wagon.

Lara - I see...

l just enjoyed it moment for moment. Didn't think it was too long... it can't be shorter else it misses the point portrayed through the build up.

my 2 cents... which in UKŁ terms are worth double what they were last year lol

I am all about aesthetics and sentimentality: Cap Sun/Leo Moon/Sag Mercury.

I found it horribly constructed - half the commercial could be cut and nothing would be missing from the point. I also dislike the tagline "It's the deepest expression of who we are." Because if an overpriced luxury car that uses petrol (hey, it's Earth Day y'all!) is the deepest expression of who someone is, they must be awfully shallow.

This particular commercial positioned itself to tap into the rampant and silly consumerism that people get needlessly obsessed with. (But I suppose that is Porsche's target demographic...) After watching, I should be remembering what the car looks like, but instead I remember the commercial's boring slowness and the crass voiceover in the last section. Subliminaly, it put a block up in me that resisted the ad and created a negative feeling about the brand.

As a disclaimer, I am just being honest and my opinion is not aimed at anyone who likes the commercial or likes the car!

hmmm...

deepest expression l don't think means as in in life FULL STOP. It simply means when you are driving!!!

I can dig that line cos when i'm on a race track doing 180mph, it is the deepest expression of who l am (as a driver and it's raw). If l was in a 911 doing 180mph on that track it would be orgasmic as opposed to just exhilarating.

small difference - big impact.

Having worked in advertising for years l think words are supposed to touch memories or pods within us, not be so literal... yet they must be literal on the screen else they don't penetrate the core so much.

Agree?

Cool responses guys. I need more. Please include Sun/Moon/Mercury.

I also noticed that the Kid is a Scorpio - because - he is not Impulsive or Excited or on Fire like Aries, Sag or Leo. he is not Taurus, Virgo or Capricorn because he didn't go there to analyze practically or just for status. He is not Gemini, Libra or Aquarius because neither he is thinking logically nor objectively. He is not Cancer because his mom is not in the picture. He is not Pisces because he didn't seem dreamy and he didn't please anybody. He seemed quite FIRM on what he was doing.

Seems like he is the kid with a secret desire to achieve something he got attached to right away. He went there to emotionally check and confirm his feelings. After he got into the car, he used his discrimination of Cutting Truth that it will take 20 years. He asked for the business card - yet - kept his face neurtral. Then, he told the Manager that he will see in about 20 years.

Still during entire commercial - the kid kept the face neutral, secretive and somehow not easy to understand. Seems like a Scropio to me! Nobody knew what thoughts were boiling inside ;-)

From an objective point of view, it was not a bad commercial, it was kind of cute. The boy simply wants this expensive toy and he knows he needs to work hard to get it.

But personally, I'm not into expensive cars. That kind of ambition would not be good for my health Saving money so that you can live in a pleasant neighbourhood is reasonable but a Porsche never passed by in any of my dreams so far.. So I couldn't relate to it.

I spent some time working in advertising as well, and I still find this commercial ineffective. Words are interpreted both emotionally and literally, so tag lines should be able to be read/heard both ways without creating resistance. That tag line created a big resistance in me, both emotionally and literally, towards the brand. *shrug*

I would like a funny or sentimental or graphically "wow" spot that also promotes alternative fuel usage because that's what appeals to me. If you are a racecar driver, then of course what appeals to you will be different. Neither view is less than the other, and like I stated before I'm not wanting to offend those who have a different view from me.

My neighbour used to have a Porsche. My elder son went to help him clean it, with a wired brush. I shouted STOP just in time. It's the only time I've seen this guy look anyway near angry and he felt bad a nano-second after.

The advert? I am Gemini and easily bored. If it was on T.V I would have starting reading a book, doing a crossword or would have picked that moment to go make a cup of tea. But then I have minimal interest in cars which doesn't help.

Do you guys think, Porsche buyers are generally...

Aries (excitement), Leo (status and flash), Sag (travel), Scorpio (Power), Aquarius (gadgets, they will customize), Taurus (acquire for higher resale values), Libra (beauty)... and Piscean Women (who were given from their Leo partners)

It's hard to see Gemini, Cancer, Virgo or Capricorns buying this car. Gemini will not be able to make a decision unless its kind of free in some business deals. Cancers are concerned whether this car does have space for entire family. Virgos are practical - no matter how rich they are - they will not buy it (Warren Buffet!) because research may prove that there are other practically more reliable cars. Capricorns are traditional and they will rather go for Rolce Royces.

Makes sense?

mblover - it's true for me what you say about Virgo. I would not drive a Porsche, but not because it is not practical, but just because I believe there are better cars to buy if I have that budget.

I see Sagittarius buying a Porsche, for the fun of it.

But my dad is a Virgo and he's had two Porsches. Of course, he doesn't believe in astrology so he doesn't know he's supposed to be practical. lol

I love Porsches. The sound of the engine in low gear, crawling its way along and then picking up speed the smooth power. A lot of these cars down in the Bay Area, I grew up on the Peninsula, am fairly familiar.

It says to me that ambition starts young and he was day-dreaming. He saw what he wanted and was willing to wait and work to get it. Good message.

Me: Sun Sagittarius, Mercury Scorpio, Moon Aquarius (Mars in Sagittarius too).

I love these cars.

Astralmuse, The reason I can think of for your dad to own two porsches is that he may have done a lot of research on Resale values, the reliability of 911, and amazing technical performance. It would be hard to see that he bought it just for the sake of fun.
