What if the notion of personal vs outer planet designation has more to do with the nature of the planet than where it orbits in the solar system? Meaning - the gas giants, with their large size, gas composition and many moons seem to relate well to larger aspects of life and society. While I feel the effect of my jupiter conjuncting someone else's sun in synastry - I dont feel my jupiter being activated. I feel it generally in the relationship and in how we interact. Along the same lines, I dont think we personally sense our natal uranus when it is transited by another planet. We may feel the effect of change in our lives but it is not felt the way venus or the moon is experienced during a transit from the outer planets.

Also in synastry, I maintain that uranus and neptune are in a category of their own and are not in aspect unless they are aspected by an inner planet of one person. Jupiter and saturn are different and represent basic forces of nature: expansion/beneficience and restriction/structure. While they can have strong impacts on relationships without any inner planet aspects, they are forces - not modes of being and a transit of uranus to jupiter will not be felt personally.

I think there is alot of confusion on this point.

I think this falls along the lines of gas planets vs rock planets. Pluto and possibly chiron would be the exception. They respond as both outer planets in the way they so totally impact life and personal points or modes of being as they touch such sensitive parts of the psyche. Transits from them just about always involve relationships and the intimate self in some way. While transits, from or to jupiter, saturn, uranus and neptune do not necessarily.

Do you see a difference in synastry when your pluto is aspected vs neptune or uranus? Is that just for people who have pluto on an angle or in aspect to a personal point? I do and it is hard for me to tell if that is why I feel pluto more personally or if it just plays by dif rules bec it is not a gas giant.

Not necessarily. I mean, Pluto just works in a very, very different way than Uranus and Neptune. It's general influence is extremely powerful, with the power to influence whole generations, universal subconscious, and to literally tear a person apart till there's nothing left. Uranus causes utter and complete chaos, while Neptune can make you "sleep" for many, many years, without ever truly realizing whats going on around you.

I've heard that unless an individual even has strong Pluto in the natal or by progression, they won't even begin to "deal" with it until some intense Pluto transit comes along and wakes them up to its energies. This makes sense to me. Pluto being a subconscious influence, how can you deal with something that you don't even know exists?

I think that for the outer planets, unless an individual has them strongly connected to personal planets, their influence is limited when it comes to synasty.

Let's say a person has natal Neptune in the 9th house, squaring their Jupiter and trining their Saturn...and that's the only aspects it makes. When their partner's planets/angles contact their Neptune; that person, most likely isn't going to experience the same kind of effect than an individual who has natal Neptune in the 9th house with Neptune square their Moon and conjunct their Venus. For that individual, any contact to their Neptune becomes personal by association.

At least thats how it makes sense to me. I have all the outer planets strongly emphasized in my chart, Jupiter is my chart ruler and makes pretty strong aspects, Saturn is closely conjunct my AC and makes strong personal aspects, my Sun is conjunct Pluto and Pluto aspects 60% of my planets, Uranus conjunct the AC in the 1st house, and Neptune in the 1st house sextile my Sun. It seems that things in my life don't really HAPPEN until one of the three is aspected by transit though, usually in a hard way.

I don't know if I brought new insights- I hope so though.

Bucketrider that's so intuitve. I think you are onto something that could be developed. To me what you are describing is linking how the energy of the material planet is linked to it's psychological/mind/spirit/body influence in astrology. Like maybe combining astronomy and astrology?

In that case it's interesting how the closer the planets are to the sun the more personal the influence and yet for Pluto (being the fatherst away most times) it's almost bringing us back to the start again but at a different dimension

alanabelle86, Fantastic observation. ......
'Pluto being a subconscious influence,...
how can you deal with something that you don't even know exists?'
It's a subconscious AWARENESS and a transit bring this into conscious AWARENESS.
I'm a pluto cojunct ascendant and pluto conjunct sun in the first house.
I defintely see this awareness changing after a transit. All other transits too, in retrospect are easier to feel because you are no longer in the same state of mind or being once it passes, when you are in it you are within it. I had a neptune transit not long ago (neptune trine ascendant) and it was so etheral, I was so spaced out at the time, only realised way after the transit. Uranus is affecting me now with many changes in my life, I am definitely consciously aware of the changes (moving house, having babies etc) and I have matured from it in time for my Saturn return coming soon. I also FEEL a restlessness but it's not making me go insane or anything just poushing me into realisation of wants and needs that I have always had but now need to be actualised
