I read somewhere that Virgo is a barren(as in---"..doesn't go forth & bear fruit..") sign. Thinking about that idea, I noticed that none of the Virgo women I know have children.
I like to know if anyone else has made similar observations?

Yeah, I know some Virgo women with children... my uncle's ex wife is 30 and doesn't have any. The women I do know don't have more than 2 children though. I'm a Virgo, and I don't really like children. It might sound awful, but I really don't. (I only know two children that I am actually fond of)

Not sure about where everyone else lives, but here in the U.K not having more than 2 children is fairly standard, it covers about 60% of women born in the early '60s and beyond.

Virgo M.C ~ I read have read up on these stats out of personal interest.

Somewhere in the U.K you will find a Virgo with ten kids but you will have to look hard. Very few women have families of that size.

About 20% of all women born after 1960 will never have children, so cast around you will find plenty more of them to choose from ~ if you follow my logic.

There you go - Cherie Blair is

Just!

She is all over the U.K press with her new autobiog. In it she describes how she went to Balmoral (Queen's country estate in the Highlands) and didn't take her contraception because she was embarrassed at having it taken out when her bags were security checked. A few weeks when she
got back home she wondered why her period hadn't started because she was normally regular, and wondered if it was the menopause starting. It wasn't, it was her fourth child on the way. She was 45. She had a miscarriage a couple of years later.

Sounds fertile to me!

She is getting slated for publishing this story in her memoirs but I don't see why.

I hear they don't feel much attachment to them.
In other words, they don't feel a special need to have kids.

I don't know... I think that's a gross generalization. My Virgo grandmother had 3 kids. My cousin, who is currently young, has one child (so far, but I think she will have more). I personally want to have kids, and yes, I only want to have 2, but a lot of people (not just Virgos) want to have that. I have several Virgo friends who I know want children.

I like kids... I work with them in fact. Of course, I've got my Aries Moon in the 5th, so I have an easy rapport with children.

Barren really doesn't make sense for Virgo, because Virgo is all about the harvest, metaphorically speaking. Although, maybe there is a swing to either extreme.

Could we not typecast based on signs?

Its genetics, not astrology. I know a Virgo who has been pregnant 4 times...all with birth control.

Of all astrological generalizations, I consider those concerning Virgos to be the worst, because they often have to do with sexuality, the deepest, most vulnerable part of a person.

Even the name of the sign is like a stigma nowadays (to be an eternal virgin...). I strongly think another better less prejudiced name should be found.

Virgo is a sensual earth sign and due to its vicinity to Scorpio (a sexually loaded sign) Virgos often have some personal planets in Scorpio. And even if they don't, Virgo is just one of the 12 signs, all of which represent HUMANS who biologically are built the same way and have the same basic needs.

[[I read somewhere that Virgo is a barren(as in---"..doesn't go forth & bear fruit..") sign. ]]
My father was a Virgo and we are four. I have three Virgo cousins and they have 2,2 and 3 kids. But I do know a Virgo moon who is not interested in children. He has only one kid and I hear that conception was by accident and he makes sure that his wife does not conceive again.

In the book "Born to be Together", Terry Lamb uses the expression "Virgo the Harvester". It has much more positive associations.

Just a thought but are the traditional barren signs that helpful in a world with contraception? If you think of how much choice is involved in family sizes, and indeed in not having children at all, are the traditional rules any guidelines at all?

im a Virgo and one of my dearest "dream" is ot be a Mom.

I love children - im working in a baby store ofr now - and once in a while i already think to have one ( just a crazy thought though ) cause now i dont have the support i need to be a Good Mom ( nor financial or emocional).

It´s strange you said that about Virgos cause lately,Ceres the asteroid has been related to the sign of Virgo.

And Ceres has to do with Mothering, nurture. With "harvest"

It's considered a "barren" sign, but people that are Virgos aren't necessarily barren. Just like Aquarius is a masculine sign, but not all Aquarians come off as super masculine.

My mother is a Virgo and she has 4 girls and one boy.

But she sometimes sais that she regrets ever having children. Whenever I tell her how badly I want to be a mother she sais that I will rergret it.

I don't know if that has anything to do because she is a virgo or maybe it has something to do because of the fact that my dad was a terrible father.

Personal Experience:

My mom is a Virgo and we are two Sons. She is very caring and I can run over her yet she is so tolerant. She has Scorpio Moon and Scorpio Rising with Virgo Sun in 11th. She is so possessive!

My aunt is a Virgo but a different animal. One Aqua Son and One Aqua Daughter. She has Aqua Moon.

While my personal exp I have seen Virgo moms all over, there is some truth to this Virgo being Barren.

Recently, I have come across so many Virgo women in their 40s/50s - deeply in pain about their previous relationships - but somehow they just don't have children.

Is it that Virgos choose to not have children because they want all things in Order first? It has to be planned first? I am somewhat preplexed with Virgo's Virginity and Vulcan or ruling planet yet to be discovered!

Mama Mia, I have observed that too. There are several Virgo Men I have seen in their 40s and they don't seem to be wanting Kids. I read in Linda's book though that Children change Virgo and make them very happy because they find some service.

One of my best Virgo friends has two children and he is totally into them - days and nights - One of the best Fathers I have observed.

My grandmother was a virgo and she had 8 children. All her children treated her like the queen bee...no one, and I mean not one of her children has anything bad to say about her, despite her cold and mean ways when I was growing up...She epitomizes tough love, that's how my mother learned how to raise me. She used to be so awful to me and my brother, even we were as young as 4 years old. I remember she used to tell me how absolutely useless we were and that when she passed away, she would leave nothing for the both of us. Out of due respect, she has passed away 2 years ago...but I never liked her. I only started to tolerate her as she grew older. She had more and more health problems and she was on meds round-the-clock...which is a really sad thing to say, but that is the truth.

WOW!! Thats deeeeppp...I also heard that alot of Virgo women have health issues too..I have a friend that has a Virgo girlfriend and she tells me all the time that her friend is riddled with so many health issues and takes lots of meds and she is quite young..Virgo's are critical by nature and when they say mean things they think they are helping you but in actuality they are tearing a person down..And by the way I don't see that as tough love.. Tough love is not tearing your childrens self esteem apart.

But good lord! That doesn't mean all Virgos are like that! Just like I'm sure not all of the other signs are saints when it comes to child-rearing!

In fact, I myself TEACH parenting classes on the side as a volunteer job. Just because Virgos *can* criticize doesn't mean they do, and it also doesn't mean they have hearts of stone.

UGH! I'm sick of practically every Virgo thread on this site being NEGATIVE. Virgos are not all horrible people.

I know two virgo women who "trapped" their husbands with 5 kids. One of them is one of the lousiest mothers I've ever known. One of the guys was only 27. Every Virgo female I know has kids.

from Wikipedia:

William Lilly (1647) in CHAPTER CXVIII of his book Christian Astrology described the signs as follows:

"Aries: By reason Mars, a sterill planet hath that for his house, and the Sun for Exaltation, is rather a Sign of Barrennesse than otherwise.

Taurus: Is reputed more fruitful than barren, being the house of Venus, who is fruitful, and the exaltation of the Moon

Gemini: Is adjudged barren, being the house of Mercury, who discerns nothing of himself.

Cancer is the most fruitful and bountiful Sign, it being the house of the Moon, and the exaltation of Jupiter.

Leo: Is reputed barren, being the house of the Sun, and Lyons bring forth Young rarely.

Virgo: Hath the name of the barren Signe, for Mayds of themselves produce no Births &c.

Libra: Rather a Signe of fecundity, it being the house of Venus, and Saturn his exaltation [1].

Scorpio: Though the house of Mars, yet generally accepted for fruitful.

Sagittarius: Ever conceived fruitfull, because the house of Jupiter.

Capricorn: A Signe of few children inclining to barrennesse.

Aquarius: Without doubt more fruitful than barren.

Pisces: Very fecund and prolificall, being the House of Jupiter and exaltation of Venus, its Signe of many Children."
-------------------------------------

from astrologyweekly.com (Nicholas deVore - Encyclopedia of Astrology):

Definition of Barren Signs: Gemini, Leo and Virgo. The Moon in Sagittarius, and Aquarius is also said to signify a tendency toward barrenness.
----------------------------------------

I think those old descriptions are a bit outdated... ;-)

i'm a virgo who has two children and would have loved more (love kids...admire the unjaded innocence they possess). i've read that virgos tend to have more issues with their pregnancies which could lead to fewer births...just a theory...i have had 2 viable pregnancies and 2 ectopic pregnancies, and 2 miscarriages.) don't really know if has to being a virgo or not

asc in leo
moon in aries
sun, mercury, mars, pluto, in virgo
venus, jupiter, neptune in scorpio

Mama Mia,
yes, I agree with you when you say that tough love should not make your child be even more confused when they enter adult life. It was very unfortunate that my grandmother treated me this way, but I rose above it, even with the double influence of my mother who I think subconsciously still thinks I am no good to the world and I am here to fail. They say that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, but I am expecting a child myself and no way in the entire world would I ever treat my child the way I was treated when I was a child.
