Hi guys,Is it a double whammy when in synastry the same planet is in aspect, for example: My Mercury conjunct (or whatever aspect) your Mercury My Mars conjunct your Mars, etc. So anytime there is a synastry link from my planet to the same planet of yours, it's a double whammy, isn't it? Because when my Mercury conjuncts your Mercury, your Mercury conjuncts mine... I'd think so as it goes both ways... ?? I never thought about it before, because in the double whammy examples the planets are never the same. ~ Lana IP: Logged |

Well, IQ said that strong positive aspects between the same planets are actually like a Double Whammy.IP: Logged |

Thanks for the comments :-)sameesadiq, I'm unable to open that link, I guess the forum is closed (?). Would it be possible and okay to copy something from there for us who are not participants? I'm tempted to think it is a double whammy because it does go both ways...(I don't have that with my SO, so I'm not trying to make more double whammies for us ;-)) Basically, the energies are very much highlighted when the same planet is involved, IMO. I have a feeling that double whammy between different planets/angles is more important than similar planets/angles. After all DW between similar planets/angles is more likely than between different planets/angles. I have in synastry. Any opinion. IP: Logged |

I agree, but I'd still say that an aspect involving the same planet is more than just any aspect, as it enhances that very planet in synastry.IP: Logged |

One of the reasons double whammies are so strong is that they are exceptional and show mirroring.Mars trine Mars is just one dynamic. Therefore, strong or not, it is one aspect. IP: Logged |

In my opinion an aspect between same planets is like between the strength of a normal aspect and a Double Whammy.Real double whammies are of course stronger, because they involve two planets, and the probability to have these is lower than having a single aspect. IP: Logged |

I think the CONJUNCTION between the same planets in synastry creates an amplification of what is already in your own natal chart, which is why I think it seems to be more profound than just an 'ordinary' aspect. BUT its just an aspect. The same (to a lesser respect) can be said about any other ptolemic aspect to another persons same planet, because most of the time any ptolemic aspect will ALSO trigger any aspect you may have in your own chart to the same planet.Know what I mean? (Its late here and I'm looking at the screen with tired, blurred eyes) IP: Logged |

From Free Astrology Course"[[samee, You asked: quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- what is double whammy [in a synastry chart]? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A "double whammy" is when the exact aspect is repeated between two people. For example, A's Sun trine B's Moon and B's Sun trine A's Moon. It emphasizes the aspect in the relationship. In the previous example, Sun trine Moon is very important in this relationship. The "double whammy" does not apply for anything other than an exact aspect repeated between two people. A's Sun trine B's Moon and B's Sun sextile A's Moon is NOT a "double whammy". A "double whammy" has nothing to do with combinations of "soft" or "hard" aspects. Orbs have nothing to do with the "double whammy": the orbs have to do with how close two planets have to be to be in aspect. Personally, for a trine I use a 5 degree orb for aspects which do not involve the Sun and/or Moon planets. and a 7 degree orb for aspects which do involve the Sun and/or Moon. Any aspect could be part of a "double whammy" if that aspect is precisely repeated in the other person's chart. For example, A's Sun semisquare B's Moon and B's Sun semisquare A's Moon. Personally, I don't use minor aspects. Whamming, Tim Whamming, Tim]]"

Thank you, Tim.Some astrologers disagree, though. Some consider it a double whammy when the same planets are involved reagrdless of the aspect. I'll check the name of one book I have at home and get back. IP: Logged |

If I remember correctly, it was a book by astrologer Janis Huntley.
