I often look at many astrologers' columns in magazines and newspapers and visit noted astrologers' websites. What shocks me is that nearly all of them seem to be very positive with regards to current world events in particular property, finance and the job market. They don't mention the credit crunch - rising inflation, negative equity, high food costs, job losses etc. I keep on seeing "June is a great time to buy or invest in new property" (hardly anyone is buying at the moment) "September sees you spend spend" (most people are watching the old purse) "Ask your boss for a promotion in November" (begging your boss not to sack you is more likely). Are these astrologers just trying to ensure people keep reading what they have to say? Do you reckon their editors are pushing them into smothering us with good news when for many life has never been so bleak? Mystic IP: Logged |

Gemini horoscopes for the year ahead always seem to warn about spending too much. IP: Logged |

Well I mean...Yes, the economy as a whole is doing pretty badly, but not everyone feels it the way others do. IP: Logged |

And thinking about it one of the reasons we have a credit crunch is because of the tendency to go out on a spending spree without the cash to finance it. IP: Logged |

Certified Astrological Professionals (C.A.P) must abide by a code of ethics. Here are links to some of them. As for the writers of horoscopes in newspaper columns... honey is tastier than vinegar. 1. The NCGR Code of Ethics http://www.geocosmic.org/about/ethics.shtml 2. ISAR - Ethical Standards and Guidelines http://www.isarastrology.com/code-of-ethics-mainmenu-41/69-code-of-ethics/92-code-of-ethics-revisedproposed quote: D. 3. PREDICTIVE WORK a. Claims of InfallibilityNo astrologer claims to be infallible in the prediction of any particular event. The astrologer provides a reasonable range of meanings and possible outcomes when forecasting or making predictions. b. Nature of Prediction Astrologers do not make predictions that are likely to lead to unreasonable fears in the client. Predictions are not made of calamitous events or other negative outcomes without balancing the interpretation with more positive possibilities. Efforts are made to assure the client that while some periods may be more challenging than others, astrologers make every attempt to provide perspective and encourage a client's resourcefulness.

Most popular astrologers are in the 'feelgood' business. Some are especially vague and optimistic, and as long as you read it for what it is, I have no problem with that. With a serious more in depth report you would expect to see something a bit more realistic and would more likely be treated as a consultation rather than a straight forward prediction. I do know what you mean though. For all I am fascinated by the subject myself, I do believe that many look to astrolgy to fill a void in themselves and look for answers that just arent there. With that in mind, feeding some people the 'tomorrow is gonna be great' philosphy, can get people hooked and for the more unscrupulous astrologer, can be a real money spinner. I prefer to use it as a guide and take from it only what I want, and check mysekf if I feel I may be getting 'addicted'. IP: Logged |

I agree that most astrologers spin positive interpretations, so as not to depress and create fear. Besides, keep in mind that no matter how bleak real world events look, there are always people who manage to do well during these times. While Saturn or Pluto or Uranus may be cramping your style, they might be aspecking someone else pretty well. The same goes for Jupiter, Venus, Pluto, Chiron, Neptune, etc. IP: Logged |

I think to be a good astrologer you need to have a good pulse on what's going on in the world and be a well-rounded individual. I think many enter the field because there is very little accountability and having people come to you can give you the illusion of being important or having the answers to help someone. Many get paid an hourly rate equivalent to someone with years of college and graduate school. Why study the world when you can make a good living BSing people.Sorry if I offended anyone but I believe their is alot of truth in this. I recall seeing a psychic once and my guess is she was some woman who was making a side living while raising a family. She had no clue about various careers and when I asked about job opportunities she mentioned secretarial work. I have an art school education with additional college, what! what a hack! She played the expert but invested little time into knowing anything other than her own world. IP: Logged |
