i was thinking, as our american contingency have just celebrated 4th of july - we have so many people from so many different countries on site - can others share their country and it's sun sign.

the usa is cancer so it explains its need to mother all the other nations.

i'm australian and our day is 26 january which makes us an aquarian nation. funny, i've always thought of us as being more sagi as a whole.

no i think aqua works for Australia. sadly, the only foundation date for Canada, was cancer. And i rather resent that similarity to USA.

hi snohawk1

it's always interesting to find out how other people see where you come from/live.

i always think of canada as being australia's sister country - the closest to us. i suppose mainly because we are still both part of the commonwealth.

Speaking of country birthdays. Take a country like mine, South Africa, which has a lot of history, from being colonized by two other countries until it became independent.

Which would be it's 'birthday'?

The first colonization?
The second?
Or the recent independence?

Personally, I would like the 3rd option better because it is the system in which we are operating under now, but what I prefer might not be correct, so... any thoughts on that?

Members of the Common Wealth to date:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_members_of_the_Commonwealth_of_Nations

I am not surprised that the non members are currently being bombed or they are in a bad state. Well, those who are part of the Commonwealth have the most stable economies, while the rest are under dictators and such (speaking of African non-members)

The US citizens would be highly surprised to know how close the US and UK is to South Africa, but only since 1994. Before that we were the black sheep of the world because of the slavery and racism that went on. We weren't even allowed to partake in World Championships and World Cups. I think the world made the correct decision on that though because then if they allowed South Africa to be part of the world, it would have meant that they were supporting the evil that was going on.

I suppose being Taurus helped.

I know that on the sporting front, Australia and South Africa are so so competitive. I would go as far as saying that during sport events, these two countries hate each other, and if one beats the other, there is celebration for the whole week as if something big happened. The whole thing is very funny.

hmmmm, I wouldn't take European settlement date (26 Jan) as Australia's birthdate. I'd say the birth details of Australia would be the federation date, which is when all the colonies united to form the Commonwealth of Australia:

1 January 1901 at 1:25pm, Melbourne Australia

Chart looks right too. Aries AC - aggression, Sag-cap - good humour and ridiculous obsession with sport, land and resources and the country/bush given that it is one of the highest urbanised countries in the world. The best nature you could ever get and the lucky country (jup opp pluto) but very suspicious about others (merc opp pluto). The great anti-intellectual too, hence brain drain phenomenon (no air, merc conj jup):

Sounds like it doesn't it?

yes, the australia and south africa fierce competition in sport - very very funny. i'm aware of this. but i think its mostly that we play the same sports - along with new zealand and england. i mean, and how much threat are they? lol! unfortunately more than they used to be - in cricket and rugby anyway.

and i agree - the other nations were right in not playing - i remember that was an enormous issue here about our cricket team touring/not touring south africa. we ended up having a few south african players in the australian team too.

but you know, i think people remember all of that - and when you think about the stigma - south africa is still viewed as it was.

i guess we always see our own nation differently than the rest of the world see us.

i think australian's are a funny lot - sporty - yes, and definitely sagi. but we are a banana republic - because we kind of hold that mentality. i do think aussie's, generally speaking, have the most easy going friendly natures. we are suspicious - but of new things too - we're kind of backwards - or just not up to date - even when we are. it's odd.

i think we are aquarian in the sense of our humanity - we are composed of so many different cultures which has created quite a unique whole.

I'm a half'n'half so have two countries, England and Ireland. England is Capricorn, Ireland is Taurus is you use the Easter Rising chart.

By marriage I have France as a nation, another Cancer country, as Bastille day is the 14th, isn't it? Easy, that one. It does seem to fit.

PeaceAngel - I think it is wise to remember because it seems as if the racists disappeared overnight after our independence but the population is still the same amount - which of course, they didn't disappear at all. Now they just can't be open about it or else they pay hard for discrimination. Now the racists are on the Down Low. It is hilarious.

I am so oblivious though that I need people to tell me that someone was being racist. But the slavery is gone totally. It is just that now the country is fixing employment rights so that people get paid fairly and such because domestic workers (maids) get the short end of the stick, getting lower than minimum wage, which is so unfair.

I hate speaking about this stuff. It saddens me.

i understand that.

i've always thought that in terms of terrain - south africa is a very beautiful country and would love to see focus on that. i think because of our positions on the globe that australia and south africa have some similarity in that.

south africa is a beautiful place.

germany isn't my birth country but i would like to point out how intriguing it is to see that it is libra! it's the day east and west were reunited.

alternative would be the day the wall came down, which is scorpio. that seems fitting as well.

No. I know Aussies and Kiwis, and no. What's between the US and Canada is more like this: Canadians resent and mock us and think we're arrogant and shallow, while we don't care as long as they keep buying our stuff. It's a fairly good-natured rivalry that at times can get a little, um, "crabby," with each side having their own fair share of hypocrisy. Kind of like our relationship with France.

Some of my ancestors settled first in Canada and I'm of French stock that's both French Canadian and Franco-American, BTW.

All the world hates their neighbour.

Who can stand the English? Not the Welsh, Scots, Irish or french. Call my dad English and you will see an old man get angry.

Once I asked a Thai friend who the Thai didn't like. Burmese, she spat.

Don't call me Portugese, said someone I worked with, I'm not one of them. She was from the Spanish side of the border, the rest of the workers in the hotel were Portugese (and me, neither).

Go around the world and you will see the same story everywhere.
