I've read that scorpio and virgos are supposedly compatible sun signs. Does the same apply when talking about Mars placement, for example Mars in Scorpio & Mars in Virgo?

Well generally yes, given they are in aspect they would be in sextile. Which means owners' of these marses will have their drives in somewhat a compatible nature. Otherwise, an early virgo mars and a late sco mars may produce a square which would be out of aspect and make them needing resolution to resolve differences.
