Ah yes, Americans calling it soccer. It is not played with a sock, it's with the feet.
But thats not what I was meaning.

Football. Foot sport. Pisces/Neptune is the feet, with Sagittarius/Jupiter for sport.
A friend broke that down in simple terms for me.

Obviously, not every footballer will have that combination, but that is the logical way to look at it.

I guess Mars seems fine for Boxing, but would prefer Venus. War is 7th house and its pretty much like that with a bit of dance involved.
Something involving Gemini/Mercury too as it is a hand sport.

My former roomie played soccer in school (and gained popularity as she was good at it) and also won trophies and ribbons in World Tae Kwon Do Federation tournaments that she kept. She's Aries. Her Mars is in Aries, too. However, she didn't keep up with it to the point that she still took part in competitions when she was living with me (unless you count our private sparring).

ETA: I have athletic hobbies myself, but I don't have any interest in competition. I suppose my athletic interests come from my moon & mars in Sag, while my sun & venus in Libra makes me dislike competition (just a guess).

Mars is the key to all sports. Then there are extra things that flavour the person. Most sports people have a prominent mars, eg one that is in the 10th, conj the MC, on the AC, in the right sign pertaining to the flavour of the sport (eg watery mars for swimming is common) etc.

Boxing is about fighting and tactic, that's definitely an aries/mars thing. Maybe capricorn gets involved because of stamina and the will to conquer the mountain as such; to be a success over long and patient hard work of punching the crap out of someone. The patience to deal with getting it back as well. Also gemini rules hand control.

As for soccer, the mars in prominence might be important. Maybe pisces and aqu is involved (or their ruling planets) as they control the shin and ankle/foot. Also higher up, sag and cap might be involved (thigh and knee respectively).

My brother did a lot of boxing in his youth, he was good. He is a peace-loving kind of guy. It was just in the ring. He used to practice by punching the walls and doors (!) and doing squat thrusts with me sitting on his back. But he is a bit hyper and has Mars in Sag. He needs to do sport to burn off some of that energy, or did before he got three kids and a house to pay for, though he still does squash, football, running, etc. He is also an excellent swimmer.

I am an excellent armchair athlete. Mars in Aquarius, Square Ascendant. I shout aggressively as the events hot up. I wouldn't bother doing any of them myself, mind.

Ireland has a long tradition of quality boxers. Egan's supporters burst into rousing renditions of "the Field of Athenry".

British boxers seem to be from Wolverhampton, Birmingham, Newcastle, Manchester, London's East End. Places where we have a rich tradition of punching the cr@p out of each other. They were at it last night in the street outside my house, the glass smashing woke me up. (Literally, I live near two pubs.)

I noticed the Judo and Tae-Kwondo teenagers were from Wolverhampton and Manchester respectively. Good, get it out of the streets and into the arena. Wolvo is our home city, btw. I'm thinking of sending my eldest along to Tae-Kwondo. He can get a bit aggressive ~ Mars CNJ Ascendant in Capricorn ~ and the discipline will do him good. He obviously isn't intimidated at the thought of getting into fights with much bigger boys.

The British have won a rook of medals this time around because our government have invested a lot of money into sport in preparation for 2012. If Cambodia, for example, had the same money invested you would see similar results. Astrologically there is going to be the same spread of Mars aspects, I would have thought.

The Jamaicans are excellent sprinters partly because it is their national sport and kids get recruited into it.

And what about this lad? Michael Johnson, commentating for the BBC, describes him as having "mastered perfection" in his running technique. He has Mars in Capricorn:

Boxers would be Cap, Sag for soccer players. Cancer is also a sign I've notice for all types of athletes. Cancer is the most conspicious Sun sign with MMA fighters.
