Yes, this topic is contentious and not so.

I'd say personally it is Aries that is the exalted rising, not because I am one myself

I think there seems to be consensus about this. The reason why it is IMHO the exalted asc is because the ascendant is to do with one's self, one's opinions etc. Aries is the first sign, the natural leader and the most that is into self. Thus with logic, Libra AC is the detriment ascendant (it is concerned with others and relating yourself with others). Also Aries Risings physically are very well defined. I am able to pick them out easily, I suspect other people are able to too.

Sites like Libra Rising.com seem to think that maybe the exalted rising is libra because it is to do with your relation with others and seems to be the most likeable and is the "Earth sign". Therefore Aries ASC would be in detriment.

See for example:

quote:
Earth/Asc in Libra: beautiful, pleasant appearance. Rating:best(beautiful)

I feel the same placements attributed to the Sun would hold true for Ascendants. That is, Exalted in Aries, Home in Leo, Detriment in Libra, Fall in Aquarius.

It makes sense to me that some believe there is a beneficence in the alignment of a fire sign to a naturally "fire house", earth to earth, and so on. Therefore, along with Aries and Leo, I assume there is a certain inherent benefit to Sagittarius Asc and something less beneficial about Gemini Rising.

I've heard a lot about Libra Rising being the most unfortunate of the ascendants, and I've seen this to be generally valid in the cases I've observed.

Haven't read much about Aqua Rising, and I've only known a few of these folks on personal levels, but from my observations, their lives appear very "unhinged", but they've all done well with what appear to often be rather chaotic circumstances.

So as Libra Asc may appear to have personal difficulties resulting with a weak or troubled constitution, Aqua Asc can generate an appearance of living amidst externally disruptive situations.

I've known a good number of Aries Risings, and these people are quite a powerful force to confront.

Yeah I definitely say Aries rising is at least exalted from personal experience. Reason being is that I have a very weak chart otherwise, I have a detrimented sun, detrimented saturn, the rest of planets are peregrine etc and Aries rising definitely has I've noticed been able to hide my weaknesses and lackings in front of others.

as far as I know the first house is ruled by aries so it would most likely be like home in Aries and Fall in Libra.. if were going by the actual rulers of the houses

I thought detriment was the term used if what you're talking about are ruled by the opposite thing which it's in, and fall was if it was in the opposite of what it's exalted in. not the other way around.

And I highly disagree with all the interpretations on the link you posted. It was quite amusing to read actually.

Snohawk - I agree, the links are pretty "offensive", yet interesting at the same time. Just posted to show the supposed "libra" camp.

When I said "exalted" in my second post about aries rising, I was actually replying back to Sco Web. I made the assumption that there is an exaltated rising and a domicile rising and concluded that if there is an exalted rising, then at the minimum aries is exalted. I still think that aries is the ruler as it is the first. The sun is a very different body to the ascendant in that the sun is the ego/drive and ascendant is the projection (which is a shell or image or ghost with no drive or ego behind it as such). You are right - domicile-rule/detriment, exalted-fall.
