This is probably a dumb question, but are all Scorpio-influenced people intuitive? Or is intuition/psychic abilities just one possibility of Scorpio placements that may in some cases never actually manifest? I'm just curious to know if there are any Scorpio people who aren't intuitive or psychic in some way??

And is there a particular type of intuitive ability that is ascribed to Scorpios? Or does it depend on other factors in the natal chart?

I've met Scorpios that I wouldn't call intuitive, save maybe in their non-psychic reasoning that is still based more on gut instinct.

But most Scorpios I've encountered seemed inclined to cynicism if not outright paranoia. And I've since found that cynicism is more likely to be true than giving people too much credit indiscriminately. So if you bet cynically, your chances of being right are greater, and there's probably a lot of gossip (not necessarily accurate mind you) to back your cynicism, so it can seem that you have a bit of psychic talent when it comes to reading people as a result.

And some Scorpios are so paranoid that I don't think it's possible for them to accurately intuit anyone (unless the person in question happened to coincidentally actually planning to cause him/her harm). Having seen this, the one Capricorn I know with an incredible persecution complex & paranoia has made me wonder what Scorpio influences he has, but he won't tell me when & where he was born (IMO, his paranoia won't allow him to).

Interesting points, that makes sense. I actually know one Scorpio who tries to come across as psychic but in fact most of it is just people-reading and making educated guesses. With him it seems so calculated. I'm a Scorpio moon and definitely intuitive moreso than anything that manipulates people like this guy comes across as doing.

Cancer is more associated with paranoia. I forget which author wrote something like "the misfortune that Cancer fears actually manifests in Scorpio". So while Cancer prepares because they are *afraid* something will go wrong, Scorpio prepares because they *know* something will go wrong.

Having proven to themselves over and over again that Plutonian destruction can affect them worse than anyone else, Scorpios exhibit their defensive streak which may certainly appear as paranoia, if it weren't for the fact that disaster usually happens as expected for them.

As for intuition, I'd attribute that to Pisces.

Water signs are of course the "psychic signs", and while this includes Scorpio, I believe the word "Perceptive" best describes the general Scorpio displacement.

According to Liz Greene, fire signs or fire types are intuitive. She refers to water as feeling, earth as sensation, and air as thinking.

Intuition/Psychic stuff Id put under the 8th house, natural ruler of Scorpio. I guess its to do with all matters hidden. Maybe an element on the cusp would give detail of how it is used in different ways.

The 12th has also been used to descibe that, so I guess water is the general element associated.

As it is "seeing" I guess the 3rd house too.
Link between 1st, 3rd and 8th.

I wish I could explain more, but Im just typing and stuff is coming out without much thought.

How about examples of famous psychics that have been proven in some way?

As far as Fire goes...

Only Sagittarius, with it's Neptune subrulership, would I grant intuition/psychic tendencies.

Jupiter's expansionism is, of course, future oriented. Coupled with Neptune, Sagittarians certainly have some skill for prophesy.

But this Sagittarian skill, along with the other Fire signs, is rooted in the flash of "Inspiration", not Intuition (except, naturally, where Neptune is strongly placed).

Well I have intuition and have had various 'psychic' experiences ranging from clairsentience to clairaudience, to energy sensitivity, dream premonitions, shared dreams, visions while awake... but I would call it mostly undeveloped compared to people who call themselves really psychic. Apart from the moon in Scorpio, I have Mars in Pisces and Saturn in Cancer forming a grand water trine, and Neptune in the 12th house. Scorpio is also the ruler of my 12th. I've always attributed my experiences to my water placements rather than anything I have in fire (Sag rising, Leo MC, Jupiter in Aries) or air (Venus in Gemini). Mr Gemini has stronger intuitive/psychic abilities than I do, but he is mostly disinterested in it and doesn't use it. He is mostly air and fire, Gemini stellium, Mars in Aquarius, Aries rising and Aries moon. But I tend to attribute his abilities to the moon in 12th and his Jupiter in Scorpio (water singleton) in the 8th house. Now that the air and fire has been pointed out though, it may well be that those air and fire placements give an extra kick to his abilities?

Edit: Forgot to mention I also have Mars in Pisces square my Neptune in 12th.

I'm a Scorpio and I don't have any psychic talents at all. I did have a few weird experiences but I guess it happens to almost everyone.

However, I do act according to my instincts. Reason is very important but I've seen that I'm not happy with the results when I don't listen to that gut voice in the first place. Of course, I have Aries moon and Cancer Asc so that might be why I'm instinctive. It doesn't necessarily save me from harm, just helps me seek out those experiences I find useful in order to grow.

Anecdotal evidience on LL supports this and I have to say I second this from personal experience.

My husband has Moon in this house. Those few of us who know him really well will occasionally get hints of his personal insights. A warning know and then, always turning out to be right.

A strong personal Pluto I think also is a possible indicator of intuitive/phsychic potential. Like most abilities it can be used or neglected.

That Cappie I mentioned who is paranoid...it might actually be a Cancer influence rather than Scorpio. Despite how evil & sadistic his mom was to him, he totally romanticizes her, which is supposed to be a Cancer thing.

I've only known 2 Cancers well. Neither one was particularly paranoid, though both were extremely quick to retreat into their shell and pout, and sometimes didn't handle being teased in a friendly way well. One is a major worrier, and he acts a lot like the caring, fussy father I never had. But anyway, I guess that's why I just didn't equate their sign with paranoia.

This is a timely topic for me. I have a scorpio moon in 9th with neptune, jupiter in pisces, pluto in the 8th. Lately I have been so in tune with bf that I can actually feel it emotionally. My thought is he suffers from depression. I can just "tell" somehow when he is in distress.Working on being able to connect but not to have my emotions affected across the air waves, so to speak.

Good question, Gemlover

I guess intuition is an intangible ability that helps a person know or feel things before they actually happen. Instinct, on the other hand, is very physical and much more like a reflex, a gut reaction to whatever is taking place around the person. It's like quitting a reasonably good job, not because you know something bad will happen but because it just doesn't feel 'right'.

Ah, that makes sense. So for me, the difference would be... umm ok for an example last night, I knew that I had to text my friend and ask if she was ok. When I went to send the text, she had texted me already to say she'd had a miscarriage (only a few weeks along). But an instinct would have been if I was actually with her and say we were about to be in a bad situation... Yeah?

Goooood topic, Gem

Here's my cool "instinct" story/illustration:

I was driving on this busy highway type road that has a 55 mph speed limit though it also has a stop light every city block. My mother was in the passenger seat (which has happened rarely and possibly only that time) and my baby daughter was in a car seat in back.
The light was green and everyone was zooming along when suddenly the two cars in front of me stopped suddenly at the green light. I was nearing 55 and knew that even if I slammed on my brakes and went burning rubber, tires screeching to a stop, I not only would not stop in time but the car might even slide sideways. There was no time. There was no space.

Here's where I channeled Mario Andrete or Jeff Gordon or some famous race car driver...

You see, like many people my age, I have driven for many many years out of necessity and simply for pleasure. But, almost half of those years I actually drove for a living, (I was a pizza delivery girl AND an ice cream truck girl among other things) and at that moment I simply instinctively spun that wheel hand over hand just the right amount of spins at just the right speed (while pumping the brakes exactly the amount I needed to slow as quickly as possible without causing my baby whiplash) to veer onto the shoulder and then spun back the other direction with equal speed and grace to face forward again so I was able to then slow enough to turn right at a normal speed at the actual intersection. My mother was amazed, and when I pulled over on the side of the frontage road a few minutes later and began to cry saying how I almost killed us all! I almost killed my baby... she said OMG NO! You SAVED us! And my dear worrier Cancer mom with the critical Virgo moon (who would have made the "I told you so, you should have been more careful" sound if one of us in the family was thrashing about with a severed leg) appeared seriously impressed with my driving skills.
I later learned her satisfaction was due to her complete faith and awe that we had been in the hands of a guardian angel (she loooves angels) but I knew it was something my body and mind had learned from years of driving. Physics I instinctively understood after all of that experience stopping a little quickly or sliding a bit on a slick road. I may not have been able to reason it all out in those few seconds... but I had prepared for that experience and my body and mind already instinctively knew how to put all of the learned information together without thought.

I also think much instinctive behavior is passed through dna, but I think of instinct as subconscious knowledge. I think that is why it is so hard to distinguish from psychic knowledge, since on some level, we are all connected. So psychic seems to be connecting to someone else's subconscious knowledge.... which is why someone with astrological knowledge combined with psychological knowledge could make a lot of money as a charlatan "psychic" who tells people what they want to hear. This is how I've always thought of the Sylvia Browns and James Van Pragues of the world, but there are those who find my thoughts on that quite offensive (dear Mum being one) and who firmly believe in their truth. I have never had the patience to fully investigate these people so I am content to allow their powers, or lack of, to remain a mystery. They seem to help some people. I would never give them money or allow them to take money from a troubled or aggrieved loved one, however.

I think that in the case of feeling a friend's pain and sensing trouble in their mind... that would be psychic empathy, right?

Wow, great story MM!

I like your definition of instinct as subconscious knowledge. Ok, so what about this. Sometimes I'll get what I always describe as a 'bad vibe' about a place or a person. The last time was when we randomly dropped in to a party, and on the way up the stairs to go in I suddenly felt like this was not a good place to be. The stairway just felt bad to me. I told Mr Gem that I had bad vibes and that I thought we should leave. But he wanted to go upstairs and see what the party was like and just took off ahead. The party itself looked really stupid but I had really bad vibes still. He (and his brother who was with us) decided to leave, and on our way down the stairs these girls were really mean and aggressive to me, and I could tell that there would be a TON of trouble if we didn't get out - so we left quickly and narrowly avoided trouble. So obviously, the last part was instinct when it seemed that there would be trouble - but beforehand when I just had "bad vibes" on the stairs, would that be intuitive? Or would it be more like an instinctive sensing??

Yes, I think being aware of another person's feelings is a psychic connection - empathy for sure. I experience it from time to time. A few times I've felt myself actually feeling another person's feelings, straight after getting a feeling in my solar plexus, and then having to shake myself out of it because I know that the feelings aren't mine.

I'm by no means what would be called a 'turbo charged psychic', but I do seem to have more such experiences that the average person does. Things I've mentioned to other people that are by now pretty run of the mill to me (and would be run of the mill to most people here at LL as well), seem to make other people double take or be amazed somehow - so that's why I'm interested to know the difference in definition between intuition and instinct. I'm also energy sensitive, I know that for a fact - but it only happens to me when an energy is a particularly heightened one. And there have been times where I've experienced visions, clairaudience and in one case a really weird audible premonition - I heard something happen (and felt it) two minutes before it actually did happen, which was so weird. Those are things that I would consider 'psychic' experiences more than intuitive ones... does that sound about right?

3. a keen and quick insight.

n.
The act or faculty of knowing or sensing without the use of rational processes; immediate cognition. See Synonyms at reason.
Knowledge gained by the use of this faculty; a perceptive insight.
A sense of something not evident or deducible; an impression.

Well without cognitive ability, as suggested, its the water signs and planets in houses associated with these signs can lead to intuition. If you've ever had anyone with pretty much have most of their planets in your 4th, 8th, 12th, you'll see the psychic qualities of these houses. Water is about perception, "vibes", emotions.

I have neptune singleton in 8th (conj ASC and chart ruler). I have had many hunches and premonitions and unfortunately some came true.

Otherwise, Aqu can be intuitive too. Aqu is an air sign but sometimes without the cognitive process, facts are simply known to Aqu. Aqu's slogan is "I know", how many people out there would have gotten that from Aqu? Being an aqu with aqu merc rx, I've often just had flashes pop up in my mind without any thought, its like my mind can be in hyperdrive and things will pop in and I just know. I'm not saying I'm a genius or a genie though

This is where maybe the same as Sco. Sco being a water sign is intuitive because of perception but like Aqu can undergo processes to seek information. Aqu will go through logical, cognitive processes; Sco will seek out secrets and discover through penetration and then will keep the secrets secret. Sorry off on a bit of a tangent....

SATURN: Planet of Material Form

Your Two Planetary Rulers

A strong desire to connect with groups of people, to express humanitarian principles and to explore social life, are what drive you forward. The ‘waters’ that the Water Bearer carries are the waters of humanity and Aquarius serves humanity. Ancient Arabic Astrology says Aquarius is: “of hot and humid nature (aerial). Its angel is generous, and is under the terror of the Majesty; he holds the keys of the spirits.” (Mystical Astrology According to Ibn ‘Arabi). Spirited and different are words frequently applied to Aquarius and this carries through to the powerful differences between your two ruling planets. Traditional ruler, Saturn endows structure and ambition and conservative values while your modern ruler, Uranus endows intuition and inventive, restless spurts of energy. As an Air sign you manifest these different sides of yourself in the way you think and communicate and in some of the quirky choices you make. It is often your job to keep people guessing!....

From http://www.astrologymatters.com/focus_aquarius.htm

quote:
Ruled by Uranus, the awakener they can experience flashes of genius that build on their very strong intuition. Not expressed positively, insight and intuition can manifest as rebellious, reckless, and tactless behaviour however used positively they can use their ability to connect with the collective unconscious to be the facilitators of constructive societal change.

These folk are intuitive, don't follow the masses and are not concerned about what other people think. This can be quite refreshing or quite confrontational depending on how you react having your own ideas challenged. Their thinking has an original quality about it and very often they see solutions others may have missed. The also have the ability to uses analysis very well.

Great information/conversation (confirmation ) everyone...

Gem,
I've never had the proper vocab... if you sensed that there would be an aggressive energy dynamic before there was any indication that anything was wrong, then it would be pre-cognitive...? right?? And what is clair-whatever? What does the root word "clair" mean? Clear or something? Clarity? Because clairaudience is hearing; voyance, seeing; and you sensed so clairsentience might be what you experienced. I will Google the root "clair".

Ok, I was wrong... clairsentience is about TOUCHING... but "feeling" too...
oooo! I was right about the "clear" though.
Check it out, there is "tasting" too...
I wonder what my experience with my guy falls under... hmmm...

Following excerpt from this page in Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clairvoyance

The words "clairvoyance" and "psychic" are often used to refer to many different kinds of paranormal sensory experiences, but there are more specific names:

Clairsentience (feeling/touching)

In the field of parapsychology, clairsentience [From the French clair, “clear,” + sentience, “feeling,” ultimately derived from the Latin clarus, “clear,” + sentiens, derived from sentire, “to feel”] is a form of extra-sensory perception wherein a person acquires psychic knowledge primarily by means of feeling.[19] In addition to parapsychology, the term also plays a role in some religions. For example: clairsentience is one of the six human special functions mentioned or recorded in Buddhism. It is an ability that can be obtained at advanced meditation level. Generally the term refers to a person who can feel the vibration of other people. There are many different degrees of clairsentience ranging from the perception of diseases of other people to the thoughts or emotions of other people. The ability differs from third eye in that this kind of ability cannot have a vivid picture in the mind. Instead, a very vivid feeling can form.

Psychometry is related to clairsentience. The word stems from psyche and metric, which means "to measure with the mind".

Clairaudience (hearing/listening)

In the field of parapsychology, clairaudience [from late 17th century French clair (clear) & audience (hearing)] is a form of extra-sensory perception wherein a person acquires information by paranormal auditory means. It is often considered to be a form of clairvoyance.[20] Clairaudience is essentially the ability to hear in a paranormal manner, as opposed to paranormal seeing (clairvoyance) and feeling (clairsentience). Clairaudient people have psi-mediated hearing. Clairaudience may refer not to actual perception of sound, but may instead indicate impressions of the "inner mental ear" similar to the way many people think words without having auditory impressions. But it may also refer to actual perception of sounds such as voices, tones, or noises which are not apparent to other humans or to recording equipment. For instance, a clairaudient person might claim to hear the voices or thoughts of the spirits of persons who are deceased. Clairaudience may be positively distinguished from the voices heard by the mentally ill when it reveals information unavailable to the clairaudient person by normal means (including cold reading or other magic tricks), and thus may be termed "psychic" or paranormal.[citation needed]

Clairalience (smelling)

In the field of parapsychology, clairalience [presumably from late 17th century French clair (clear) & alience (smelling)] is a form of extra-sensory perception wherein a person acquires psychic knowledge primarily by means of smelling.[21]

Claircognizance (knowing)

In the field of parapsychology, claircognizance [presumably from late 17th century French clair (clear) & cognizance (< ME cognisaunce < OFr conoissance, knowledge)] is a form of extra-sensory perception wherein a person acquires psychic knowledge primarily by means of intrinsic knowledge. It is the ability to know something without knowing how or why you know it.

Clairgustance (tasting)

In the field of parapsychology, clairgustance is defined as a form of extra-sensory perception that allegedly allows one to taste a substance without putting anything in one's mouth. It is claimed that those who possess this ability are able to perceive the essence of a substance from the spiritual or ethereal realms through taste.[citation needed]

Developing clairvoyant abilities

Current thinking among proponents of clairvoyance posits that most people are born with clairvoyant abilities but then start to subliminate them as their childhood training compels them to adhere to acceptable social norms. Numerous institutes offer training courses that attempt to revive the clairvoyant abilities present in those early years.[citation needed]

According to many Taoist related practices, abilities such as clairvoyance and many other 'supernormal' abilities are by-products of spiritual awakening and the realisation of divine consciousness. Buddhist teaching says such powers may arise in someone who has developed high states of mental concentration (dhyana), but such powers are in no way seen to be a prerequisite to enlightenment. In fact, they can act an obstacle in that they may divert the practitioner from the goal.

Integral to spiritual and mind expansion is breathwork and meditation. By expanding lung capacity and learning to use the lungs as a 'bellows' to direct qi (Chinese: 氣 qì, meaning "air") around the body and open the subtle energy channels we also naturally expand the mind and refine consciousness. This is how these seemingly miraculous powers develop, though they are not truly miraculous. They are considered to be latent abilities that everyone possesses but need 'waking up.'[citation needed]

Such abilities in some schools of thought are considered distractions from the true path of Enlightenment and can lead to the practitioner falling off the true path. The re-discovery of these energetic abilities relies on the activation of the 'Dan Tian,' (Chinese: 丹田 dān tián, meaning "energy field") or, the central energy reservoir located just below the navel. When the practitioner learns to 'turn' it and move it as if it were a fifth limb, then qi can begin to be pushed around the body. The Dan Tian is strong as a baby, but quickly slows to a crawl as one ages. A major part of Taoist and Chinese Buddhist practice is learning to activate the Dan Tian once again. This may also explain why such abilities are stronger as a child and quickly disappear as one ages, but can be awakened by the proper practice of arts such as neigong and qigong to expand the mindstream and spirit. There are many abilities that can be developed in this way — telepathy, prediction, astral travel, pyrokinesis, telekinesis, levitation and energetic healing.

23, thanks for bringing up the 4th, 8th, and 12th houses. There is a lot of activity there in the two relationships where I could strongly feel someone else's energy actually moving through me. More my planets in their houses.

Interesting article Mystic. I get Claircognizance (knowing) myself. I guess that's an Aqu thing.

As for your planets in their water houses, yes, you should be able to feel that as well. I think the feeling works both ways, your energies would feel being in their water houses, you can channel your energy into those areas in their life but their water houses react strongly to your planets being there in a somewhat receptive way (which is maybe what you are feeling).

I think many people (probably me as well) haven't quite figured it out. That was just my rational explanation or the way I explain it to myself. It could very well be what you originally said, that the planet person feels their energy in that part of the house person's life. There is a lot of conjecture on house overlay and its operations, its nowhere near a settled area and the truth is subjective too.
