You and thousands of others have been driven out of their homes....for the second time.I do not think it is necessarilly astrologically driven. And do not think the effect of Ike has not permeated many others who have not been driven out of their homes, others who absorbe, host and welcome the evacuees. Emergency service workers who have to put their lives in danger to rescue those who did not leave, folks involved in cleanup, medical care workers who have been working 24/7 to take care of the infirm evaucees for the past week..etc. And the financial repercussions are devisating to everybody in Texas and parts of LA. Price gouging at the gas pumps, grocery stores running out of staples, increased crime, hazards to the temporary increased popluation in the cities the evacuees fled to! You are far from alone... I feel for ya cause I am on the recieving end of the evacuees and I am SO ready for things to get back to normal!!! The good news is, looks like there are no big players brewing up yet....just yet. Hope you get to go home soon, hope we all, in Texas are blessed to get our lives back to "normal" soon! blessings IP: Logged |

The problem is the way the media exaggerates and sensationalizes to make everyone think it's worse than it is and it delays everything. People think it's going to be at least a month before they can come back and it turns into a vicious circle. Parts of my area already have electricity back and several major stores are open like Sams. Traffic is moving fine. The only places really BAD and inhabitable are the immediate coastal areas. The heat is the worst thing and we just got a tiny cool front where I'm at so that helps. It's just that we can't reach FEMA, the red cross, or any help agencies and the hotels are so expensive. We actually have a few rooms available here. Most people went north and we avoided the traffic jams and chaos by heading east. Maybe FEMA and the Red Cross only went to Houston and north of there cuz we sure don't see any sign of them here. If you call the 800 number it disconnects you and says to go to the website like all these stranded people can do that. IP: Logged |

StillatlargeYou did not have to leave, you could have stayed, from where ever you fled from. You made the decision to leave now you can not return. They can not force you to leave, but they can not allow you to return. And it is relative to the area you are talking about. And it is not over-sensationalized. It IS bad, could have been much, much worse, but it is bad. Again YOU are not the only one who has bore the brunt of this. I for one, will be very glad to not have to be on call all of the time to go to work. I will be glad for the extra folks to be able to go back to their homes and resume their lives and lessen the load on MY city!!! I think you are being incredibly insensitive to your fellow Texans, fellow humans for that matter. IP: Logged |

Excuse me. There was cop at my door and I had no choice whatsoever to leave the dorms at the school where I live. If it's like the last time I can return as soon as the power is on which SHOULD be some time this week. And I happen to think it's insensitive to blow things all out of proportion and scare the h-ll out of people unnecessarily. Yes, it's bad for those in coastal areas, and I'm not minimizing or trivializing anything. People who built on the beach had insurance and KNEW the risks. It was inevitable. I sypathize with those who had significant damage but I don't really see your point. For a lot of people it's worse to be stranded God knows how far from home and given indefinite gloom and doom predictions about when they can go home-not to mention the isolation not being to contact friends. I went through Rita and I remember them saying 2 mos. We were home with lights on after a week and a half! Whole cities already have their lights restored. The stress of evacuation often kills more people than the storm itself. My neighbor died sitting at a traffic light during the Rita evac. All this panic and hysteria is what makes matters worse. The media failed everyone here before the storm and now after by not providing a realistic analysis of the situation. They waited til the last possible minute to tell people about the geographical coverage of the storm and the increased surge. That's why so da-n many people were stranded. Now, all they're doing is showing the worst hit areas and trying to discourage people. I'm not talking about Houston. For that matter, noone is being prevented from returning where I live. This is NOT New Orleans. We're different topographically as well as population, etc. As long as you can get in, noone will stop you. Even those who are flooded can go in by boat to assess the damage if they want to. I've been through so many hurricanes and tropical storms I lost count. I happen to remember the days before Katrina and the hysteria. Call me insensitive. Pftt... It's not like I'm not affected by it myself and I'll say what I da-n well please. I think I have a right to vent like anyone else. And anyway, if I didn't, you couldn't come here and try to get attention for yourself looking all pious on your high horse could you?IP: Logged |

People and animals always go nuts in cyclones. Police go nuts too. I can only say its people who don't know what they are doing and never have been through one that go over the top. However hurricanes can be very bad though still and I my thoughts are the ones that just happen to be unlucky. IP: Logged |
