What has been your experience with your chart ruler? Is it just a first impression?I am an aries rising which makes my mars in scorpio the chart ruler. I come of too strongly for some people even when i don't want to esp with opp sex. Also, I am a lazy slob very unlike my chart ruler would indicate.

My ASC is Scorpio so my chart ruler is my Pluto in Scorpio which exactly conjuncts my ASC. It is not a first impression..it is the story of my life. ------------------ Capricorn sun / Scorpio rising / Sagittarius moon Mercury:: Sagittarius Venus::Scorpio Mars::Pisces IP: Logged |

I agree, the chartuler is a very important part of your essential identity and not just a first impression.AFter all the ASC is the point where heaven and earth meet, the point where you come alive, and it reflects that. It`s your "instinctual identity", physical, but not only physical. It also shows how you perceive the world and the world perceives you. But the world can only perceive you in this way, because you project something of yourself onto it (the world). So it is more than just a mere mask that has nothing to do with the real you. It`s part of the real you. You instinctual behavioural pattern for example. And the ruler would show how and where you can feel "yourself". In my case it is Jupiter in Pisces in 3rd house and it completely describes that part of my personality in many degrees. IP: Logged |

Chart ruler is so important. DD has said some interesting things in her post, I guess what she is saying is that the chart ruler is the real part of your asc, asc is the image that you project. I definitely feel my chart ruler and I identify strongly with it. I've noticed that anyone who makes a bad or good aspect to it will have a lower or higher opinion with me than other people. It also heavily influences your appearance as well. IP: Logged |

I have Capricorn rising and my chart ruler is Saturn in Scorpio, so I can appear intimidating at times. Fortunately, Venus trines my ascendant, so that softens my appearance. Then again, my Venus is in Aries, so I don't know if my Venus rising softens my appearance that much...IP: Logged |

I totally agree w/ how your chart ruler affects your appearance! I have gone through sooo many transformations as far as appearance goes, it's insane..good ol Pluto..and I've had some pretty bad luck in the past with that..I have been really fat, I have had skin problems, I have had hair problems, I have changed hair color countless times, I've fluctuated in weight a lot, etc. Thankfully I was blessed with Venus conjunct ASC, too..and good genes IP: Logged |

I`ve often read that, if your ascendant is in Scorpio, Aquarius or Pisces, you should also look at the placement of the old ruler of these signs (Mars, Saturn and Jupiter). And I wonder can you identify with the placement of these old rulers, too? Is it like some sort of secondary influence, in addition to the new ruler? Is it even stronger than the new ruler or is the new ruler dominant? IP: Logged |

DD ~ It's so funny that you should mention the old rulers. I was at my astrologer's today and she studies both vedic and western astrology. She mentioned that in her experience, if someone is not 'aware' the old rulers would be more likely to apply. I suppose, by 'aware' she must have meant that they were not connected with their inner knowing or maybe out of touch with their own sense of spirituality? In any case, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn would then be the rulers of Scorpio, Pisces and Aquarius, right? She also added that she feels that Virgo's energy has been taken over by the patriarch in a sense and that she feels that Chiron makes more sense as the ruler for Virgo than Mercury does, although Mercury would still apply, but more so as a lower octave of the same energy. I'm cap rising with saturn in first in aquarius. I think I have a serious face permanently imprinted as many many people (even strangers) say "smile it's not so bad" interesting because I'm not aware of looking so serious. I wish I could lighten up in every aspect of my life. I'm sure there's energy there to do it (aq sun?) but I've yet to find it.IP: Logged |

Good questions DD. * Identity with placement of old rulers - yes, I do. One example is Aqu associated with its older ruler of saturn - in cap and rules the old, saturn builds structures, in aqu it tears old structures down (the tearing is the uranus addition) and sets a new order (again, new - ura, order - saturn). * I kind of see it as both, see the previous example I gave re Aqu. * Stronger or weaker? Probably equal. I lazily refer to only the new ones when I talk about signs though. Cederma - my partner is cap rising but his saturn is in leo. He's always smiling. Where's your saturn? IP: Logged |

Leo rising ~ Sun in Pisces/H8 ...I can switch crazily back and forth between sunshine bright and playful to withdrawn, shy, moody. I think some positions its easier to find a balance than others ~ my combination doesnt really make sense.IP: Logged |

Aqua rising here. Uranus in Sagittarius in the X house...I'm >>always<< the odd one.. & I enjoy it hah The old ruler, is in Scorpio in the IX ... so yeah I have this other facet when I can come as intimidating or "unaprochable" Actually it all depends on my mood and how I feel for socializing...but once I'm on it- I'm very open to everyone. I love talking also... Merc opp ASC- and sometimes I just talk too much and end up with foot in mouth disease. hehe
