I believe more and more that a womans essence..how she is perceived by others and the air that she emits, to be a combination of the sun and mars sign.
I always thought that my friends mom looked so much like Hillary Clinton (who is Sun in Scorp Mars in Leo). So, finally I asked the mom when her birth details were and I checked out her birth chart...
She is a sun sign Leo with Mars in Scorp!!!! These two women could seriously be twins. I wish I had her picture to post up to prove my point!
I love that astrology always seems to make perfect sense!
Has anyone else ever found this theory to be true?

Maybe, but I think Sun & Mars are important in both male and female charts.

I know a male Leo with a Scorpio Mars and I could've sworn he was a Scorpio, before I found out.

In my case, Aries Sun/Capricorn Mars - that may work BUT my Moon is also in Capricorn.

Most astrologers would say that women tap into their Moon and Venus energy. I actually think the personal planets apply to everyone, regardless of gender.

CF,

I definitely agree with you. WE are experiencing all our personal planets, no matter if we are men or women.

In my case I may identify with my Sun and Mars-sign, but my Sun is also in my 1st house of self and my Mars conjuncts my ASC, so I think those masculine planets are strongly tied to my identity anyway.
But I also identify with my Moon and Venus.

Actually if I`m in a rather relaxed and neutral mood, I tend to express a lot of my Sun and Mars-sign, house and aspects (Sagittarius, 1st house, conjunct Mercury, conjunct NEptune).

But when my emotions are triggered in any way, it seems, that my Moon and Venus take over the lead, and it gets complicated (Aquarius / 2nd house, Capricorn / 1st house, quinkunx Saturn, square Pluto).

Sun and Mars in the same sign (like my sister has in Libra) makes for a more pure type of that sign. My sister is so libran..
And yes, I find men emit their moon and venus.
Therefore men identify more to the feminine influences (moon and venus)and women their masculine influences (sun and mars).

I've been focusing on people's Mars a lot more recently. And I'm noticing for the first time how heavily it influences the way a person comes across. Our Sun is who we are, but our Mars describes how we go about actively expressing who we are. It's the way we do things. And although astrology 101 teaches you that, I'm only just now noticing what a personal planet Mars really is. (I'm slow. )

I haven't noticed a difference between men and women and the strength with which their Mars is a part of them. We may consciously identify with and prefer the sign & aspects of, say, Venus over Mars, but every part of us is doing its thing.

I'm assuming you're female and straight. I wonder if we pick up on the Sun and Mars of the sex we're not attracted to, and the Moon and Venus of the sex we are attracted to?

Your observation is making me think that which personal planets we emphasize in a given interaction is dependent on the gender of our company. Not only will what we emphasize change, but maybe what others pick up on about us changes depending on their gender, and whether we're the sex they're attracted to or not.

This could explain why people with harmonious Sun-Moon and Venus-Mars aspects in their natal chart are said to find it easier to get along with both men & women. When they express their yin planet, their yang planet easily comes along as well. They couldn't escape one of them by socializing with only one sex. However, people who lack those harmonious aspects could live as just their yin or just their yang planets, and could avoid socializing with the sex that brings out their less liked planets.

Interesting theory! In my case, to me, it works. Sun in scorpio and mars in Aries. Most people say that they see fire in me. My ascendant is cancer and my moon is in virgo. Personality-wise though, until people get to know me do they really witness the arian in me - upon first meeting I usually come off as shy (cancer asc). I've always wondered whether sun sign and HOUSE influenced the person's appearance. My sun is in my fifth house, and I think I really look like a leo - much more than a cancer or virgo anyway.

Jane, I like that idea. I think it works with the men I'm attracted to, but not all men, in general.

It does with me. My Sun is Aries in the 11th. My dad is a quadruple Aquarius, so I probably inherited Aquarian traits. Some people have guessed me to be Aqua.

I have Sun in Aquarius, Mars in Sagittarius, and I'm VERY Sagittarian... but mainly because my Sun & chart ruler (Mercury) are in my 9th house. So I can't really be counted in this survey.

Take Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore for example...
Demi is Sun/Venus in Scorp and Mars in Leo. Ashton is Sun/moon/venus/mars in Aqua. For sure he is feeling her mars very strongly...Mars in Leo opposed all his planets has kept a Scorp and a pure Aqua together...
I do find her quite leonine..with her mane...

I`m with Jane on this one.

I think, Mars shows how we actively express who we are.
It`s like the Sun describes who we generally are, and Mars describes how we act around other people (well, there are always other people around).

But that doesn`t mean we can`t feel or identify with our Moon or Venus. I for my part do identify with both of them.

But even though I do identify with my Venus, I think Venus may also show whom we are attracted to (after all Venus describes what we find attractive, beautiful etc.).
But then again, I fall out of all these surveys because of my natal placements.

Sun and Mars in Sagittarius in 1st house - therefore an important part of my self

Moon in Aquarius in 2nd house - 2nd house is till a part of the EGO-quadrant.

Venus in Capricorn in 1st house and ruling the 5th house - she seems to have a double role in my life. I do identify with Venusian traits are she falls into my 1st house, but on the other hand I also feel attracted to these traits in men, as Venus rules the 5th house, indicating what I am romantically attracted to.

OH and I even identify with my Mercury, as it is conjunct my Sun.

So, I fall out of these surveys. And I think maybe a lot of people do.
Personally I think that maybe each of us identifies with different planets more strongly, depending on how it is all integrated within the chart.

Example:
A man with Sun-Moon-conjunction would definitely identify with his Moon (as it is conjunct his Sun).

But what if a man has Moon in the beginning of Pisces, but his Sun, Mercury, Venus are in Aries in 1st house with ARies-ASC and his Mars is in Gemini in 3rd house?

I`d think that he would have at least some difficulties to identify with his Moon, as it seems to contradict everything else in his chart.

EDIT:
Traditionally we say that women identify more strongly with Moon and Venus and are attracted to Sun and Mars, while men identify with Sun and Mars and are attracted to Moon and Venus.

I`m still a bit uncertain, but somehow I donīt think that is right.
The stars and planets do not tell anything about one`s gender. But they symbolize certain traits like the Moon symbolizing the emotional nature of all of us, no matter if we are male or female.

However, I realized that projection is always a possibility.

But really, seeing that Sun and Mars are yang planets, the ones, that get active and express themselves actively, they may be the ones that are most strongly noticed outside.
Again, it depends what aspects there are and where they fall.

EDIT2:
Oh btw I am a friend of the 1st house-connections. I`ve always seen these traits as very dominant in a person, and not just on the surface or as a mask.
And how often I have cursed my Mars-Neptune-NN-conjunction on top of my ASC.

1st house connections means more than just the sign btw. I`m talking also about the planets in 1st house, especially in the ASC-sign, and the sign, house and close aspects of the ruler of 1st house.

"The First House
House of Self

The First House is commonly referred to as the House of Self. The cusp of the First House is the home of the Ascendant, the Sign which was rising on the eastern horizon at the precise moment of one's birth. By thinking of this in terms of sunrise and new beginnings, one begins to grasp the concepts of the First House. The new beginnings here are centered around the individual: the self and the attendant voyage of discovery which defines a person. Who are you? What will you become? How do you realize your best self? The First House speaks to the realization of one's ultimate potential. This process of becoming a unique individual is one of the greatest contributions we make to the world in which we live.
The distinct qualities which we possess are often referred to as personality. The First House addresses the individual, his or her comportment and approach to life. In other words, the sum total of one's being. This is the package we give to the world. The packaging itself, or our outer being, is also governed by the First House -- think the physical body and the way in which we present ourselves, and in particular, the head and face.

Early childhood is also ruled by the First House. Everything from our earliest steps to our view of the emerging world is considered here. How will we develop? What is our view on life? It all begins at the beginning (the First House) and serves to shape us for all time.

In sum, the First House speaks to the person we are becoming and will become, both internally and externally. It addresses our personality and presentation to the world, our essential qualities, approach to life, demeanor and basic sensibilities. The inner self and outer body are what the First House is all about.

The First House is ruled by the Sign Aries and the Planet Mars."

CF - Yes, I agree that makes sense, that what we notice depends on our level of attraction to the person.

It's so complicated though. Maybe we primarily notice our common ground with someone?

Something that's happened repeatedly in my life is that people with a strong Pisces or Neptune influence very quickly notice my own Pisces/Neptune energy. Similarly, I have a friend with Uranus on her Dsc. I have Uranus in my 1st house, so she's always seen me as very Uranian, while my other traits have been harder for her to see.

In this case, what the different people are seeing in me really are all strong parts of myself, but who they are shapes which parts of myself they see the clearest.

Diandra,

I find it so interesting that your sun in Virgo and mars in leo completely makes sense with your boyfriends moon in Aqua opposing your mars and his venus in Virgo conjuncting your sun..
That's why I find my theory to be so true..other people really feel a womens sun and mars vibes and a man's moon and venus.
I had almost the same thing with my boyfriend of 6 years. He was moon in Sag conjunct my mars and sun and venus in Taurus opposing my sun.
I am not discounting other planets at all. Of course all our planet placements play a role in who we are. I just find that the strongest influences are different depending on the sex of the person.
