Okay everyone... do you know, or are you, a couple that have made it long term, and managed to work through negative synastry or anyone who has gotten married despite what their composite chart says? Has anyone "defied the laws" of astrology? Let us know! Did you turn around Venus opposition Venus, or with your opposition of Sun and Saturn, did you just learn how to be happy? Or did the opposite happen. Did you have wonderful syanstry, and the relationship turned out to be a freaking disaster? Tell, tell!

this is kind of the same as asking an individual - do you suffer from or learn to work with your chart's challenges? i've done both for sure! and had relationships that both succumbed to and transcended bad synastry. but someone pointed out that synastry only gives half the story, while a compound or relationship chart tells another side...some of the APPARENTLY happiest couples i know show multiple squares and oppositions, including nasty saturn angles etc; but what do we know of their actual feelings about the relationship/each other? my ex husband and i have great synastry but the fact is he was too young when we were together to want to work through the s**t, and walked. 22 years later we are still friends...

Some oppositions aren't necessarily that disasterous. Like Jupiter or Venus oppositions to personal planets don't really say anything bad because they're benefics.

Anyway, my parents' charts don't have anything that suggest that they're married or even like each other, and they've been together for 25 years.

Synastry:
DW Sun square Mercury
Dad's Sun opposite Mom's Saturn
Dad's Uranus square Mom's Mars
Dad's Venus square Mom's Uranus
Dad's Sun square Mom's Moon
Dad's Pluto oppose Mom's Sun
Dad's Saturn square Mom's Moon

Midpoint Composite:
Sun square Moon
Moon square Mercury
Mars opposite Saturn
Mars square Pluto

Wow, amowls, those are some intense aspects your parents have!

If you don't mind me asking, do they seem to reflect any of that stuff, or do they seem fairly happy together? If it's none of my business you can just tell me and I won't mind

I think you can`t say anythinga bout a synastry without seeing both natal charts first.

Also, sometimes, if the synastry and natal comparision doesn´t reflect the relationship, it would be good to look at the progressed charts.

Actually I found the progressed synastry to be more fitting than the basic synastry in most cases, as the progressed chart shows where you are standing NOW.

Two very "stressful" Synastries - and the greatest two love stories/relationships of my life, haha!;-) I'll list the stressful aspects only - to make it more impressive:
(orbs 0-3)

LOVE No. 1 (lasted 5 years, great love, intense and versatile, without living together, peaceful ending - friends today)

My Sun square his Moon
My Sun square his N.N.
My Moon square his Pluto
My Moon square his Chiron
My Mercury square his Juno
My Saturn oppos. his Venus (!)
My Saturn square his Mars (!)
My Uranus square his Sun
My Uranus square his Mercury
My Uranus oppos. his Saturn
My Neptune square his ASC
My Pluto oppos. his Chiron
ASC square ASC

LOVE No. 2 (lasted 9 years, marriage-like, living together, working together, more or less peaceful ending - friends today)

My Sun square his Saturn (!)
My Moon oppos. his N.N.
My Mars oppos. his Juno (!)
My Jupiter oppos. his Chiron
My Jupiter square his MC
My Saturn square his Juno (!)
My Pluto oppos. his N.N. (!)
My Chiron oppos. his ASC
My Chiron square his MC
My Juno square his Saturn (!)
ASC square ASC
My ASC square his MC

IN COMPARISON: A horrible love story - but with a beautfiful, intriguingly "magic" Synastry ;-) Again, to make it more impressive and to show how easily one can be fooled by Synastry-aspects, I'll list only the very(!) positive looking aspects with this one... (there are loads of these!)

LOVE No.3 (Long distance, lasted almost one year, turbulent, intense, painful, misunderstandings and suspicions galore, ended awfully - enemies today, no contact):

My Sun sextile his Venus (!)
My Sun trine his Chiron
My Sun trine his Eros
My Moon trine his Sun
My Moon trine his Moon
My Moon trine his Mercury
My Mars sextile his Venus (!)
My Jupiter sextile his Sun
My Jupiter trine his Mars
Jupiter trine Jupiter
My Saturn sextile his Chiron
My Saturn sextile his Eros
My Saturn trine his ASC
My Neptune sextile his Venus
My Pluto conjunct his Venus (!)
My Chiron trine his N.N.
My N.N. conjunct his Vertex (!)
My ASC sextile his Venus (!)
My IC/MC conjunct his ASC/DSC (!)

They fight constantly, and they don't really hang out together. They go out separately and hang out with different groups of people. My mom has threatened divorce a couple of times, but she never goes through with it, but this was a long time ago. I wouldn't say that they're in love, but they're not divorced nor are they getting one any time soon.

DD,
do you think that IF a person has a pretty intense chart, say for example me with all that fire and conjuncts - that l prefer the synastry to be more punchy and challenging as opposed to light and full of trines and conjuncts?

I have found that quite a few of my synastries have a lot of squares and oppositions and not sure if it's a good or bad thing lol

Lara,

definitely.
You would probably be pretty bored, if you had only sextiles and trines with someone.
Not sure about the conjunctions though, they can be pretty intense, depending on the planets involved and on your natal chart.

I tend to agree with Lara on this ~ ~ if you know you are a fiery and difficult person (or passionate and complex if you like) you know it's not likely that you are going to be one half of a Darby and Joan pipe and slippers duo.

Besides which, people bring out different things in us. Charts will reflect that. Tense aspects can make us learn lessons or get things done. In different places on the chart.

I can't find a chart without some red in it. I originally posted this with two synastry ~ my husband and my best bud, both Aqua Suns with Virgo Rising, two very different relationships. But then I spotted both had an even mix of blue and red on both.

With my husband I have a Grand Cross. It's not doom, it's not bad. I've lived with him for 16 years, no-one made me.
