me and a guy have been talking about wanting to be together for several months now.

we have moons in opposition and risings squared eachother and his moon square my sun.

BUT we also have three conjunctions to each of our venuses in synastry, and major venus action in the composite too (very closely conjunct sun and mercury for starters!).

so! based on these few simple details, is this great or crappy synastry?

i guess what i mean is, can challenging aspects between our luminaries be overcome by excellent venusian synastry? since i hear that luminaries are the most important to have in harmony, and ours aren't (except my asc widely conjuncts his sun and his asc trines my moon)? i feel that venus SHOULD be enough of a good thing to bring loving feelings in to face the challenges with grace..

on first glance, what would you think? blessed or doomed?

The Venus aspects suggest that there is value in the relationship--that in some way you are good for each other--and were probably "destined" to meet.

However, that is no guarantee that this is a permanent relationship or that it would be as good should you live together or marry.

My advice would be to appreciate what you have, but do not rush into changing the current shape of the relationship.

My idea of crap synastry is a chart where the aspects are wide in orb, with personal planets unaspected. Or something of this ilk that suggests indifference or two people with nothing in common.

Challenging synastry could be two people with a reason to be together. Just like a red splattered natal chart could be a person with inner tension who goes on to achieve much in life.

ahh.. thanks guys!

so crappy synastry just means a lack of aspects, generally? and/or some of the really nastier ones, if there're a lot of them?

like.. his moon squares my sun exactly and opposes my moon by 5 degrees.. so in a way that frightens me.. BUT i can feel the 'differentness', the challenge, and it feels good!! we talk every day and get along so well, and my memory of our time together (we shared one night) was very very good.

BUT.. my sun, mercury and mars ARE conjunct his venus and his moon is conjunct my moon, so already, there's some balancing out..

hmm squares and oppositions are fun!! i like the challenge, and it can be excellent, i think, if the differentness is dealt with respectfully.

some people like squares and challenging aspects, its more energetic. depends what you are looking for. the composite could show you how the squares will play out. i wouldnt give too much thought to it, just smile knowingly when issues arise!
