well...this event seems to fit right in with the Saturn-Uranus
opposition. It also fits with the now stationed Neptune in Aquarius
which is in mutual reception with Uranus in Pisces. Uranus is said to be the planet of earthquakes. Actually, in mythology, Neptune/Poseidon was the patron god of earthquakes. He was known to create them with his trident.

It happened during an exact New Moon too, and that New Moon is
conjunct the South Eris Node in Scorpio with an applying 14 minutes
of arc.
Mercury is oppose Eris with 1'33 orb applying

Astrologer and Geologist, Francesco Schavinatto lists the following keywords for Eris

Dam; Damming; Obstruction; Obliteration; To be opposite; Aversion for the Extraneous; To obstacle the Alien; False Adaption between Different Matters; Reciprocal Aversion; Feeling to be Invaded; Resistance; Incommunicability; Controversial Figure; Ecological Incompatibility; Underground Instability

as you see, he listed underground instability which fits right in with earthquake.

I like the work of Dr. Theodor Landscheidt who devised golden section
aspects for use in Astrology, and he was into Climatology too. He also
pioneered the use of geocentric planetary nodes in Astrology. http://bourabai.narod.ru/landscheidt/consider.htm

The New Moon is in golden section aspect to the Saturn-Uranus
opposition.
The New Moon is in a golden section aspect(132'29) to Uranus with 44
minutes of arc applying.
The New Moon is in a golden section aspect(47'30) to Saturn with 4
minutes of arc separating.

If you add, the dwarf planet,Ceres...the New Moon is involved in a
golden section triangle
Ceres is in golden section aspect(68'48) to the New Moon with 57
minutes of arc applying and in golden section aspect(158'45) to
Uranus with 10 minutes separating as well as a golden section aspect
(21'15)(with Saturn with 56 minutes separating

corresponding golden section triangles
Ceres semisquare Moon/Uranus and Sun/Uranus midpoints with 32 minutes
separating. Ceres semisquare Sun/Saturn and Moon/Saturn midpoints
with 55 minutes of arc separating

Saturn-Uranus-Ceres configurations can be shaking up(Uranus) foundations(Saturn) of the earth
Ceres was an earth goddess in mythology

There is a golden section triangle of Venus,Jupiter, and Neptune
Venus and Neptune are in a golden section aspect(68'48),and Jupiter
is in a golden section aspect(34'24)to that.
therefore, it has a corresponding midpoint of Jupiter conj
Venus/Neptune midpoint with 30 minutes of arc applying.
I believe that configuration calls for generosity, compassion, consideration for the victims.
Golden Section Triangles always have a corresponding midpoint picture
within the 8th harmonic divisions.

other golden section aspects are
Mercury-Pluto - 68'48 - '48 minutes of arc applying
Pluto-Eris - 111'15 - 42 minutes of arc applying

both these configurations can be about destruction....especially 100 people were killed...thousands lost their homes

I second that, Quinnie. Eris has not gotten sufficient attention. As a matter of fact, I am ashamed to admit that I am not familiar with Eris.

And those rather unsettling planetary transits...
