I stumbled upon this site dealing with the nature of the planetary nodes some time ago:http://www.astrologycosmobiology.com.au/planetary_nodes.html.

What interested me the most was the part about "maximum effectiveness": "MAXIMUM EFFECTIVENESS occurs when a transiting Geocentric planet forms a conjunction or hard aspect to the Heliocentric Nodes of that same planet. In the case of natal astrology, if the Heliocentric Nodes of a planet is conjunct that particular planet in the geocentric natal chart and the planet in question happens to be the chart ruler, or significantly placed in the natal chart, the effect of that planet increases dramatically -- see World Events and examples listed below."

I have a Scorpio ascendant with the ruler, Mars, at 19 degrees Scorpio in the 12th house. Does this mean something significant then?

Here's what it says about Mars' nodes: "MARS NODES indicate assertive, aggressive behaviour, sporting prowess, accidents and operations"

Now, I work out a lot and was often told that I had some great athletic potential and probably have A LOT more male friends than female, but other than that....I have no idea. Since Mars is also the ruler of my 5th house cusp, could it mean that I attract men/have children with these qualities?

Anyway, I know a couple other people who also have planetary placements conjunct these nodes, and was wondering if anyone here has done some research about this?

I have had boundless energy for as long as I can remember and I hardly spend any time just relaxing!

Yeah...I have been to that site. I posted about planetary nodes including both the heliocentric and geocentric nodes numerous times. I included that site in my posts about planetary nodes.

I have also written the author and told her about my planetary node aspects including my Sun conjunct South Eris Node with 10 minutes of arc too. I felt that was a prominent theme in my life too. When she wrote that article, Eris wasn't discovered yet. She was very nice with her response too.

but yeah...I have that maximum effectiveness

I have Virgo Ascendant and Gemini Midheaven
so Mercury is my chart ruler and rules my Midheaven too

My Mercury is in 18'21 Scorpio
conjunct South Mercury Node in 18'00 Scorpio
conjunct South Mars Node in 19'20 Scorpio

therefore, the Mercury and Mars energy is strong in me.

as for the Maximum Effectiveness with the South Mercury Node, well...I have a history of problems with communications, nervous system which is associated with Mercury. With special education therapies, I have learned to harness my energies better so that they become strengths

The combination of my Mercury-South Mercury Node-South Mars Node indicate my passionate communications which can be aggressive at times(arguments),highly active nervous system, nervous irritation, quickness, great speed(especially as a teenager). with Mercury as my Midheaven ruler, I was a military telecommunications operator in the Navy.

another thing too
My Mercury Apogee is in 18'17 Scorpio, and so my Mercury conjuncts that with only 4 minutes of arc. So Mercury was its Apogee at the moment of my birth.

Apogee is the point of an object's orbit that is farthest from the Earth.
Perigree is the point of an object's orbit that is closest to the Earth.

as you see, Mercury on its Apogee can indicate difficulties with things ruled by Mercury, but it can be powerful Mercurial influence.

so I have Mercurial Maximum Effectiveness with the Apogee.

not only that

My Heliocentric Mercury is in 17'02 Sagittarius, and that is conjunct my Aphelion in 16'50 Sagittarius. So Heliocentric Mercury was at its Aphelion at the moment of my birth.

that is similar to my having Geocentric Mercury conjunct Apogee.
I have Mercurial Maximum Effectiveness with Aphelion

Aphelion is the point of an object's orbit farthest from the Sun.
Perihelion is the point of an object's orbit closest to the Sun.

there is a fixed star in the vicinity of the South Mercury Node and South Mars Node too.

Zuben Eschamali which is the Beta star of Libra. It is known as the Northern SCales which was also known as the Northen Scorpion's Claw. Libra was once part of a great Scorpion constellation observed by the ancient Greeks.

North Scale *
Zuben Alschemali Honours, wealth, distinction, brilliant mind, success in sports, politics, war, religion, writing, tragedy, violence, melancholy 19° Scorpio 23 Fortunate Jupiter/ Mercury/ Mars http://www.astrologycom.com/fixedstars.html

It is also the star associated with social justice,reform...according to Bernadette Brady.

here is more info on the star http://www.constellationsofwords.com/stars/Zubenelshamali.html

It was in 18'58 Scorpio when I was born, and so my Mercury in 18'21 Scorpio conjuncts it. This star would accentuate the highly Mercurial and Martian influence of my Mercury conjunct the heliocentric South Mercury and South Mars Nodes.

if your Mars is conjunct the heliocentric Mars Nodes, then your Mars is definitely conjunct the heliocentic South Mercury Node and Zuben Eschamali

Thanks, Glaucus!

Yeah, I've seen a lot of the info you've posted on here, and find it to be very informative! I must have missed a lot of the threads on the planetary nodes though--maybe I should look through some of the older threads. So, from what you've said, it looks like maybe a planet such as Mercury or Mars that conjuncts the heliocentric south nodes of that planet initially has some difficulty of expression. But maybe over time, that difficulty turns into a great strength.

I feel like it's been that way for me. When I was growing up, my teachers worried I'd have problems because my mother is German and we would speak German as well as English in the home, and certain sounds wouldn't come out right. I also stuttered a little bit when I was younger (Chiron in Gemini opposition Saturn/Uranus), but I rarely do that anymore. Now, languages seem to be my greatest strength. I studied Spanish for several years, and have just started learning Italian.

I am also aggressive in speech at times and am quite high strung. Sometimes it's hard to shut the thoughts off at night before I go to sleep! I can see how what you said ties into the career you had in the Navy as well. Interesting how that works!

Anyhow, I come from a military family (long line of military men) and had a desire to do the same for a while, but have since changed my mind. It's also interesting that it's been known to be associated with social justice and reform....I plan on studying law after I graduate from college. I love to debate and guess that's also a strength of mine.

But, what is this talk of 18/19 Scorpio being the "accursed degree?" I see that everywhere, and wondered if this has anything to do with these nodal positions or something else?

"Thanks, Glaucus!"

You're welcome.

"Yeah, I've seen a lot of the info you've posted on here, and find it to be very informative!"

Awesome! I am glad that it is seen as informative. I like to share things that I have learned. I definitely like to get feedback too. I want to see if people if agree or disagree as well as if they can relate to it or not. I don't take astrological ideas for granted. I have to be an openminded skeptic.

" I must have missed a lot of the threads on the planetary nodes though--maybe I should look through some of the older threads. So, from what you've said, it looks like maybe a planet such as Mercury or Mars that conjuncts the heliocentric south nodes of that planet initially has some difficulty of expression. But maybe over time, that difficulty turns into a great strength. "

Yep...that's the gist of it. I think that's with any South node of an object...even the South Lunar Node.

"I feel like it's been that way for me. "

Yeah...I have a history of speech problems that were treated with speech therapy. I had to be in special education for 3 years because of my speech problems. I had auditory reversals that led to speech reversals, unintelligible speech in early childhood. I had auditory therapy to correct those issues. I tend to stutter a little bit when I am nervous talking in front of people. I tend to have cluttering speech which means that it's rapid, loose, tangential, and can be disorganized. I tend to speak too softly and mumble. I didn't speak in full sentences until I was almost 8 years old. I don't know any foreign languages. Because of my auditory processing issues, I have a hard time understand having a hard time what people say. People can easily talk too fast for me even in my own native English language. I can easily get auditory overload, and that can lead me to tune out. I tend to ask people to repeat things because I tend to have problems remembering things that I have heard which is auditory memory issues. I have that same issue with reading too as in visual overload, words come in too fast for my eyes, and the whole short term visual memory issues. Sequential memory is also a weakness of mine. I am just a highly nonlinear type of thinker, and so I have problems with linear things like time.

my Mercury is parallel Neptune - '33, conjunct Sun/Neptune midpoint - '14(Sun-Mercury-Neptune 27th harmonic triangle, grand trine in my 9th harmonic chart), and so my thinking is highly Neptunian - highly nonlinear, visualizing, imaginative, intuitive, receptive but also can involve confusion, distortion, disorientation, hypersensitivity as in weak nerves, sensory overload.. and most of all, just being hard to pin down, misunderstood. I think mainly in pictures, visualize things in my mind's eye nonstop..I even visualize whatever I am doing like I am seeing myself in the mirror(directing my mind's eye in my direction). I can flip images in my head and turning them around, seeing things from many sides, angles, perspectives. I have very strong visual spatial ability. I read all those things are strengths that Dyslexics and other neurodivergents have.

Ronald D. Davis who wrote the book,THE GIFT OF DYSLEXIA explains the thought processes of people with Dyslexia and other related conditions. He mainly says the problems stem from having picture thinking as a primary mode of thought and that there can be disorientation, confusion in connection to that mode of thinking http://www.dyslexia.com/bookstore/giftbook.htm

What aspects do you have involving Mercury? Chiron in Gemini oppose Saturn-Uranus is a generational aspect. I have Saturn in Gemini oppose Jupiter-Neptune in Sagittarius, but I can't say that aspect alone indicates my history of communication problems. A lot of people were born with that aspect, and they don't have those issues. Actress,Winona Ryder and I were born on the same month, day, and year. She doesn't have the same issues that I do. That's where the houses come in........for instance my Saturn in Gemini is in 9th,and my Jupiter-Neptune in Sagittarius is in 3rd. Also generational aspects are personalized by being aspected to personal planets. In my case, my Moon in Pisces in 6th squares the opposition. Therefore,I have a T-Square which is a 4th harmonic triangle which indicate great deal of internal and external conflict, stress. It's a very challenging aspect configuration, but if handled well, there can be great success. A lot of successful people have t-squares too. Therefore, t-squares aren't necessarily bad.

"I am also aggressive in speech at times and am quite high strung. Sometimes it's hard to shut the thoughts off at night before I go to sleep!"
I am the same way!

You and I have a lot in common...it seems.......cool!

"I can see how what you said ties into the career you had in the Navy as well. Interesting how that works!"

Yeah...Astrology charts really play out! Synchronicity is a mighty incredible thing. I believe that our life experiences are reflected by our charts.

"Anyhow, I come from a military family (long line of military men) and had a desire to do the same for a while, but have since changed my mind. It's also interesting that it's been known to be associated with social justice and reform....I plan on studying law after I graduate from college. I love to debate and guess that's also a strength of mine. "

My maternal grandfather was in the Marines. One of my maternal uncles was in the navy. One of my maternal aunts was career Air Force. The other one was in the Army, and she now works for Veteran Affairs. My stepfather was retired Air Force when he met my mother. One of my stepsisters was in the Air Force. So there is a bit of military people in my family. Therefore,it's no surprised that I was in the Navy for 7 years.

"But, what is this talk of 18/19 Scorpio being the "accursed degree?" I see that everywhere, and wondered if this has anything to do with these nodal positions or something else?"

I am not sure. I think that it might have to do with the South Mercury Node and South Mars Node in that vicinity that might influence those degrees.

also there is the constellation of Serpentis within that area.

Serpentis
the "Accursed Degree" A malefic degree, tragedy, misfortune, the "Accursed Degree". This degree does not precess. 19° Scorpio Unfortunate Mars/ Saturn http://www.astrologycom.com/fixedstars.html#Scorpio
http://www.constellationsofwords.com/Constellations/Serpens.html

There is a star called Unukalhai which is the alpha star of Serpentis which was assigned Mars-Saturn nature by Ptolemy. The star has a bad reputation throughout Astrology.

Alpha Serpentis *
Unukalhai Success followed by fall, suicide, insanity, accidents, success in war, politics, writing, problems in love, forgery, shipwreck, loss, earthquake 22° Scorpio 04 Unfortunate Saturn/ Mars http://www.astrologycom.com/fixedstars.html#Scorpio

as you see, Unukalhai is assigned Mars/Saturn like the Accursed Degree. It could be because of it being in the constellation of Serpentis.

Unukalhai was in 21'40 when I was born, and my Venus is in 21'47 Scorpio. Therefore, I have a very close conjunction to that star. My lovelife has really sucked most of my life. I can identify with Unukalhai in regards to problems in love. In Medical Astrology, the star is associated with chronic health issues. I also believe that the star is associated with reproductive issues..especially when connected to Mars or Venus.

My mom's Moon is in 18'54 Scorpio conjunct my Mercury with 33 minutes of arc. Therefore, she has Moon conjunct the South Mercury Node,South Mars Node, and Zuben Eschamali as well as in the "Accursed Degree" just like my Mercury. Her life has reflected the extremes of her Moonsign and those aspects to the Moon like never knowing her mother(her mom never wanted her,my grandfather kept her),cervical cancer/hysterectomy,being shot. Sometimes,I wondered if both my mom and I were cursed. I believe that we just have heavy karma.

I believe everything happens for a reason. I believe in fate, destiny as well as free will.

The outcome of our lives is determined by our actions. That's my belief.

Thanks again, Glaucus!

I was typing this long reply, but then it wouldn't post , and I have a final to go to soon!

So here goes again:

I have Venus/Mars=Saturn and Venus/Mars=Eros on the near midpoint overlapping with the Moon/Pluto midpoint which =Saturn, which then means that I have Venus/Mars=Chiron, and Moon/Pluto=Chiron the far midpoint.
So,
Chiron is in the 7th
Saturn in the 1st
And the nodal axis is in Pisces/Virgo in the 4th/10th houses, which then squares these midpoints
I also have Pluto/Ascendant=Mars and a Mars/Jupiter quincunx. I heard that the quincunx can point to health problems, which worries me since I've also read that Moon/Pluto and Mars' nodes are prominent in reproductive cancers in women......

I also have a cazimi Mercury at 1 degree Capricorn (Pluto transit right now), with Mercury ruling the Midheaven and the 8th house....must be why I seem like such an 8th house person aside from my Mars/Pluto/Ascendant in Scorp. I also have progressed Moon in Scorpio right now, which is about to conjunct Pluto next year.

AND, I have Algol on the descendant....no fun.

Finally, I've also got a lot of Saturn and Neptune parallels in the declinations, but I'm not too sure what they mean for me.

Anyway, here's my major aspects from astro.com:

My Mom has Moon in Scorpio square Pluto - 4'02 orb
She also has Mars square Moon/Pluto midpoint - '04
She had cervical cancer and had a hysterectomy because of it at the age of 23 years old. I was almost 6 at the time.

I agree with Moon/Pluto midpoint is prominent in reproductive cancers with women, but that doesn't mean that you will have reproductive cancer because your have a prominent Moon/Pluto midpoint.

you did list Venus/Mars = Saturn, and that is one of the midpoint configurations known for reproductive issues, but not necessarily cancer. It could be problems with conception. Note that it's just a possibility. It doesn't mean that it has to manifest that way.

Your Saturn conjunct Moon/Pluto,Venus/Mars midpoints together is very interesting. Medical astrologers would say that it could indicate a strong possibility of reproductive issues.

but those are only possibilities. They don't have to manifest. If these problems run in your family, then that would be a warning sign. It would be good to get checked out just in case.

As for Mercury.....

Your Sun conjunct Mercury with only 2 minutes of arc is extremely powerful! That's an amazing aspect. Yeah...it could indicate some issues with the nervous system with Mercury being so close to the Sun like that. It could possibility of mental burnout.

I also checked your midpoints aspecting Mercury

Your Sun-Mercury is conjunct Saturn/Neptune midpoint with 3 and 5 minutes of arc respectively
That could indicate possible problems with the nerves as well as can be communication issues. There could be possibility of depressive, pessimistic thinking which can be connected to insecurities about intelligence. This configuration can indicate a possible learning disability.

I have something similar...My Saturn contraparallels Mercury-Neptune in declinations.

Saturn/Neptune is the midpoint associated with chronic health problems, the cardinal point of disease...it is also associated with immune system issues too

My own Saturn/Neptune midpoint opposes my Moon with 17 minutes of arc because of my t-square of Moon square Saturn-Neptune opposition. Moon is associated with bodily fluids. It is also associated with the brain too.

Your Sun-Mercury is oppose Jupiter/MC midpoint with 0 and 2 minutes of arc respectively. That would be excellent for communications and being educated as well as having career that involves communications, teaching. That's a great midpoint configuration to have. This would be great for compensation for any difficulties that you might have.

Your Sun-Mercury is semisquare Mars/Pluto midpoint with 30 and 32 minutes of arc respectively. This indicates passionate, intense thinking.

so you have Sun = Mercury = Saturn/Neptune = Jupiter/MC = Mars/Pluto

I think that I see an indicator for your history of stuttering.

Your Uranus oppose Mercury/Saturn midpoint - '36 - this could indicate dysrythymic communications, but it can also indicate an ability to think outside the box. It seemed like it would be good for mathematics too with the combination of Uranus(mental intuition) and Saturn(grounded, practical, linear) with Mercury.

I will give you interpretations from Ruth Brummond's Rulebook too

There are positives and negatives for every configuration. You can focus on the positives and not focus on the negatives much. These are all just possibilities. Therefore, not all of these nor most will apply to you. Free will is the ultimate factor too.

Wow! Thanks for the info I appreciate that you took the time to do that. And if I ever have anything interesting to share, I'll try my best to do that. The college life just gets a little hectic sometimes!

Well, in terms of those overlapping midpoints, maybe it has something to do with a fear of motherhood. I have no idea why, but it feels like there's kind of a psychological block there for me. Like, I think kids are great, but the idea of having them myself scares me for some reason. And I realize I'm young, but I've kind of always felt that way. Maybe it's inherited, I dunno. My mom was really anxious and reluctant when she was pregnant with me, but as we forged a closer bond, she discovered that being a mother wasn't so bad after all. I can definitely talk to her about most anything, even the difficult stuff...which there was a lot of for us.

And as far as medical problems go in that regard, I don't know of any except that my grandmother had uterine cancer when she was almost 85 years old, and died not long after that a couple years ago. I do think I tended to have some big hormonal swings though when I was younger, whereas now it's not really a problem. For some reason, since I had a Pluto transit of that midpoint a couple years ago, it seems like things have gotten better.

What's interesting is that I also read about golden yods where there is a quintile between two planets where each planet in it biquintiles a third, and apparently I have several of these:

Venus quintile Mars
Venus biquintile Chiron
Mars biquintile Chiron

Moon quintile Jupiter
Moon quintile AC
Jupiter biquintile AC
Moon biquintile MC
and Jupiter biquintile MC

So, there's one involving Venus/Mars/Chiron, which is already prominent in the midpoints, and there's another involving Moon/Jupiter/MC, with one or two more aspecting the AC.

So, I don't know what significance that has, but it seems to emphasize the Moon, Jupiter, 5th house, and Venus/Mars/Chiron again only in a different way.

And with the lunar nodal axis involved squaring those overlapping midpoints, I wonder if there's some relationship karma involved. I tend to attract much older men who I can have great intellectual connections with, but it's hard for me to attract those of my own age. I posted about that on here before, but I really couldn't figure out why aside from my strong Saturn influence. And while that's not a huge problem, I know that could create some difficulties for me socially.

Well, this is turning into a long post and I should get going, so I'll have to continue this later!
