I'm currently a student in his art class. He is newly divorced (eight months) from a six-year marriage. I'm newly out (seven months) from a 5.5 year long term relationship. Smith and I met three days after I broke up with my bf.

I've been in his class in the spring semester and am just finishing a six-week summer school class where I sit two feet away from him for four hours every day. It has been absolutely delightful to get to know him in this slow and casual way.

BUT the class is over Thursday and I want to see him outside of class. I've broached the topic a couple of times over the last two semesters, and he's indicated that he would very much like to do that, too, but NOT until I'm no longer his student. (We are both in our mid-50's; this is a community college.)

I'm anxious about having all of this contact end abruptly this week. It's hard for me to believe he will follow through and contact me, although I believe being together in class, chatting, working on art projects, sharing books, movies, poetry, etc., has been as delightful for him as it has been for me.

The theme that has pursued me through life from early childhood has been that "Nobody wants me." That recurring theme plagues me in the early stages of any romantic relationship.

Virtually everything in the reading was positive and is congruent with my personal experience of him. He is kind, honest, respectful, with impeccable integrity. We can talk endlessly about any subject and when we disagree, it is very stimulating and interesting-- not hostile and insulting like those discussions were with my exBF.

Here's a followup: on the day of our final, he and I were in the classroom together before anyone got there, and I said to him, "There's something that has been building up for a while..." and I put my hand behind his head and kissed him. It was a light kiss, but it was on the mouth! Holy moley, I can't believe I did that. He was receptive and thanked me-- didn't seem ALL that surprised. After the class was over, he left for a week's vacation, but he said he'd email me when he gets back.

Aren't YOU the courageous one! Kudos to you for taking a chance and understanding that life holds wonderful surprises. I can relate to your feeling of "Nobody wants me" and I love your analogy for it, "...an old injury that troubles me when I'm stressed." I invite you to take it one step further with me and say it's an old "ghost injury" that flares up when I'm stressed. Do you like that? I do.

I'm so proud of you for KNOWING that it would be alright to take that adventurous action. Take a moment to just enjoy that here and now without wondering about the future. It's so important to pat yourself on the back for taking a leap for fun. Your sharing that experience brightened up my night.

He's due back in town this weekend-- not sure what day and I'm on pins and needles not knowing if I will hear from him. I'm leaving town a week from Saturday for a week, and I'd sure like to see him at least once during that week that we're both here.

I've been reading over my journals that go in to a lot of detail about our interactions since January, and the facts seem to indicate that he is interested. He's never once pushed me away or been the least bit standoffish, except when he stated his non-fraternization policy (which I think was very appropriate). Actually this has been an excellent way to get to know him: seeing him just about every day under circumstances where we could talk a lot but nothing else could happen.

NOW I'm ready for Something Else to happen, kwim? But I'm not convinced it will.

As far as I know, he got back this past weekend, either Saturday or Sunday. I'm leaving for a week on Saturday (July 26) and won't be back until Aug 1.

I haven't heard from him, which may be due to a variety of factors, one of which could be that he thinks *I'M* out of town this week. During our last convo on July 9 after the last class, when he said, "I'll email you when I get back in town," I said, "I'm leaving town the week after you do and I'll be gone for a week." It may not have been clear that there would be a week in there when both of us are here in town.

In any case, I'm considering sending him a simple email tonight or tomorrow saying in the subject line, "Coffee? Tea? Conversation?" and in the message, "Interested before I leave town for a week on Saturday (back Aug 1)."

Yeah, I know I had the cojones to kiss him, but that drained every bit of mojo from my tank and I'm flying on vapors now. Anyone get any vibes on this idea? (Be gentle, please.) Surely I didn't imagine the last seven months?
