I need silence, though occasionally I will have a piece of music on, usually something that I feel resonates with the energy of the querent, as I picked it up. But that is very rare. Actually I had that only once, when I did a reading for Sunshine ("Summertime", played by David Garrett; no clue why I HAD to listen to that piece all at once then).I try to empty my brain and connect to the querent`s energy, until it fills my complete focus, and then I shuffle and ask the cards for assistance in answering the question truthfully. And then I forget about the question and just keep that feeling of the queren´ts energy.
If I look at the cards, I often will feel a rush of emotional energy (and when this happens, I know, it probably will be right).
When interpreting, well I still use the guiding books, but I also try to see the whole picture, especially patterns.
Are there many cards of a certain suit? many major arcana? many aces and so on?
If doing partnerspreads, are there maybe cards from the same suit lying in the same position for both people?
Usually in strong connections, a clear pattern will emerge.
Sometimes both people will also have a pattern in themselves, but not sharing it: for example: many cup cards in her perspective, many sword cards in his, indicating very different experiences in the same relationship.
I am still trying out different roads though. So I do not know, maybe it is going to change over the years.
Oh and for partnerspreads I usually cut the cards into three; one for person A, one for person B, one for the relationship or outcome. I have NO clue why I do that though. Just felt right.
Just as the querent is always on the left, the person they are asking about on the right side, and the relationship / outcome in the middle.
I pick the cards from the top, but once or twice I noticed that absentmindedly I had picked one or two card from the bottom, I did not change that when realizing what I was doing, because I think there is a reason why my intuition made me change my pattern.
Oh and I always thank the cards for their time and help before and after doing a spread.
