So im curious about this. I know you draw cards and then... each card means something. Now, do you have learn the meanings of each cards and what diffrent cards mean when drawn together? Can anybody just pick up a deck and do this? Or is it like chart reading where you have to know what you are doing? Do you have to study it? If so, how long have you been studying tarot? Just.... someone explain the details please? P.S. to anybody who has givin me readings using tarot, thank you so much!! I find it rather accurate!! IP: Logged |

With tarot, the best way to learn is by doing it, I practised on a few friends, family, ect My thread on this forum was to get a bit of practiseWith learning the cards you do need to do that beforehand but you can keep a guidebook handy for if you forget a card's meaning or are a bit cloudy on it. When learning the meanings of cards, I used to give each card a few key words in order to learn them faster, helped ever so much! IP: Logged |

I've been studying them since 18 after I went to a highly accurate and popular reader (his reading looked far into my future and was very accurate without me saying a word to him, wow!!).He told me I had a "gift" (not the only one that has told me that). So from then on I got interested, but yes anyone can do it and study it. I look for links and if I draw more than one card, I read them together rather than singling them out. Of course I'm not 100% accurate, but I do this for a living and have been very accurate with repeat clients, etc. Lately I have taken a break and not doing so well, some issues have come up within the last couple of months, I don't feel as intuitive due to 'sadness' and stress..that's why I try and practice more here. But yes anyone can learn!! IP: Logged |

I dabbled with tarot when I was 14 for like a yr and then when I was 19 I bought the deck I use now. I'll b 33 in a few months. Yes u practice on urself 1st. U could start out pulling a card for the 'theme' of the day each morning. Most decks come with a book but u can also purchase them as well. I have like 3 other books I bought separately. and practice, practice, practice! I didn't take the time to learn all the cards yrs ago and now I'm playing catch up. I just focused on whatever cards I would pull for readings. I wouldn't suggest u learn them all at once. There's too many to do that unless ur a genius lol id say learn a few each week. Do weekly readings and study the cards u pull but on top of that, go in order of the deck and just do like 2-3 per week and study each individual card. U can purchase tarot cards at like new age stores and certain book stores carry them. Or online. There's many many websites that sell them. I think even amazon has them too. I recommend u buy a brand new deck and not a used one. And I agree with above statement: anyone can learn as long as they have an interest in tarot and commit to learning it. Hope this helps *edited* and please don't use reversals to start out with. Wait til u know ur cards or it gets really confusing if u try to learn reversed cards in the beginning. IP: Logged |

There's also many decks as well. Chose one ur drawn to. The most widely used deck is the rider waite deck. I had that one for my 1st deck. Easy to use. I recommend that for beginners but go with what ur gut tells u. I unfortunately got rid of my rider waite deck bc I was too young to really get into it. When I was 19 I was at this new age store that had cd's, books, all kinsda stuff and I saw this deck called the mythic tarot and I was drawn to it bc it had figures from greek mythology on them and honestly they r really beautiful cards to me. I bought it and I've used it for 13 yrs now. So have fun choosing ur deck IP: Logged |

I'm interested in tarot too, but i'm no expert. I don't own a deck yet, so i visit all these tarot websites and do the free readings. I was surprised at how accurate it was, so i became even more interested. For newbies, just ask a question using the 1 card spread, then look up the meaning of the card, that's what i do. But it's not really advised to read for yourself, since we tend to be biased and sometimes carried away by emotion, and it may make the reading inaccurate. We should only read when we are "emotionless" since elation, sadness, doubt, etc are easily picked up by the tarot and it makes the reading inaccurate. Also try this with a friend, like for example, you two are talking on the phone, so ask him/her to think of a question and ask him/her to concentrate with a relaxed mind. Then you pick a card, then tell him/her what that card means and if it made sense to the question he/she was asking. And it usually does, lol. That's a good way to practice, and the distance between you two helps, since you guys are one on the phone, it will intrigue your friend as well, since how come it was accurate when it wasn't even him/her who picked the card right? Lol. That's what i thought at 1st. So now i'm aware that energy knows no bounds, lol. Anyway, i suggest you visit www.newagestore.com for practice until you get to purchase a tarot deck. I'm not very intuitive, so i don't think i can be able to read for other people. I read that to be considered a "tarot expert", you need to have at least 10 years of experience, and that's quite a lot!IP: Logged |
