Any tips on learning to read tarot cards together?

Like earth cards with fire cards and the other combinations of elements. Does it mean that fire motivates the earth cards into action? Does it mean when water cards mix with fire cards the emotions are amped-up or does the fire quinch the emotions? How do air cards and water cards mix? Etc. Or do you not read the elements of the cards like this at all?

What is your take on 9 of Cups reversed? I read on a web site this: "The 9 of Cups, whether reversed or upright, is one of the most uplifting and pleasant cards to receive in a reading. Known often as the "wish card" it can mean that what you are hoping for or dreaming about most is very likely to be yours. The reversal says that the wishes for you will go even deeper; these are not superficial wishes that are at play now. That's a good thing." And for love: "Love: Reversed or upright, this card is a very good omen for your love life. Existing relationships are likely to deepen, become sweeter and more meaningful, at very deep levels. If you're single, you are likely to meet someone with whom you can have a deep, very meaningful and real relationship in the next few weeks. Mingle!" Do you agree or disagree?

Are there any other cards when reversed mean the same as upright but deeper as what was described for the 9 of Cups reversed above?

Any other advice for a beginner on how to read cards together especialy for a love reading? What cards do you want to see in a love reading together? What cards you don't want to see in love reading together?

What about the numbers of the cards combination? What are the numbers that work well together? What are the numbers that are at odds with each other?

I know I just asked a lot of questions but any insight at all will help me.

Any other insight you want to share?

Thank you so much for taking your time to answer my questions!! It is much appreciated!!

Im a novice also, in reading outside of my family. I have been reading w my family for a few years now. What helped me a lot was starting w an easy to read deck . I first had the a Marsielles & Unicorn decks and didnt connect with them. My sibling then gave me the classic rider waite, and I still love it. Now Im thinking of expanding to a new deck, but always go with what feels right to you.

I do read the card meanings from books & online articles but go more w my feelings in a reading. Like if thoughts/images pop into my mind, connect these w the basic meanings like in reading a story. Another thing I like to do is pull out a card every morning, and see how its meaning/energy plays out in my day.

I havent worked much w reversals, still looking into that area. For elements of the suites, I integrate astrology & numberology a bit.

Not all reversals are bad just like not all uprights cards are good. The Moon bring illusion when upright but much more clarity when reversed.

I agree with PF, go with what your intuition tells you because there are so many variable with the cards.

I also use visuals I receive to help me understand what they are trying to tell me.

First if you haven't already, read about the history of tarot and it's evolution.

Second decide for yourself if you accept reversals or not. It's more of a matter of preference than right or wrong. I personally use reversals because they help me see the energy blocks in a reading as whole.

Third read on the basic traditional meanings of each card.

Each reader interprets the message of the cards differently and according to their own personal knowledge/ experience/intuition. You must take into consideration the question of the person asking to determine how best each card applies.

And the rest is pretty much how your own perception and higher knowledge of astrology/numerology plays into the message of your cards.

GOODLUCK!

Personally, I don't use reversals, all cards have their good and bad meanings but each to their own, don't go off a text book, what do you feel?

Now personally, I only read the book for a general feel to the cards, for me, the interpretation of each card is my own and it varies with the situation and the place in which the card is in the spread.

Go through your deck (I recommend Rider-Waite for beginners as it is a very good deck to figure out the meanings to each card) go through each card and look at it, what does it mean for you? After you have your own system with the cards, you can go on to more colourful decks like Tarot of Dreams, ect
Mainly, with decks, choose the one you feel most drawn to

Spreads is another one, start with the basic three card spreads and then work your way to more challenging spreads like the Celtic Cross and others. Create your own spreads as well, there is no right or wrong when it comes to the tarot, it's all about you and what you feel is the best! Generally if you want to become a reader, I suggest that you know three spreads, with your own to add a bit of originality!

Practise on people is the best way to learn as you gain experience, this forum is the best place to do it!

When asking the question for yourself/the person meditate on the question, place the energies on the tarot and shuffle in however way you want, picking however many cards you need in the way you want and interpret the way you see the cards as intuition is a big thing here.

Good luck!

Thanks guys for the great advice!! I will put it to good use. I think my biggest problem is that what I see and feel in the cards is not what, for the most part, textbook. What happens is that usually the feelings and what I see in regards to their questions don't match with the cards I get for them. I guess I am having a difficult time separating picking up on all their energy and not zeroing in on just the cards that pretain to their questions. I guess what I am saying is that being so psychic interfers with doing a reading. This is what holds me back from doing readings for others here. But I want to. Plus I have some difficulties expressing what I see and feel into words. I thank saturn in my third for this. Again thanks for the replies!

NM, maybe you are simply using the wrong textbook? Find one that fits you. They are ALL DIFFERENT and they all have different meanings for the same cards.

I'd recommend looking at different elements in the cards and seeing how they can answer different questions. Have never owned anything except RW, but I believe what makes it better than others is a code that is informed by tons of research done by Mr Waite. The scenery is uber-important in a great deal of cases. Think of the sea in 2 swords as opposed to 2 pents? This should defo be for a reason, to be sure Parallels with astrology work for me for some types of questions.

I would also assume that the act of going for one deck or another should be preceded by research, learning about the history of this particular deck and whether you want to use this symbolism and that. I have a profound loathing for Crowley's deck. It is so horrible I don't care about the research effort invested in its creation, I just don't connect with it. Might consider trying Marseilles or Lenormand at some point, these seem to have some proper symbolism.

No clue about Harry Potter decks and such. These are probably just a sellable product used for entertainment purposes.

The above is strictly IMO
