So I recently realized my natalchart has Jupiter in retrograde which falls into my 9th house. Also my Pluto is in retrograde, falling into my 1st house..I'm not sure if this has any effect on my life? Or do the signs have any affect? My jupiter is in cancer & pluto/ascendent scorpio...Any insight into this?

Or just information on whether this has an effect in general.

Hello builtwithstolenparts,

In a 30yrs oldish book by March & McEvers, who are some well known astrologers, they say that retrograde planets, because they are not moving in an overt/direct fashion, their action is less obvious, less open, and much more inwardly oriented.

They say sometimes this is a blessing but sometimes it can slow down the outward process of maturation, and that if a retrograde planet rules the Sun, Moon, or Ascendant then the person may seem shy or evidence a certain hesitancy in facing new situations.

Jupiter, they say, is the planet of expansion, optimism and idealism and when it is retrograde, the individual develops his own religious and philosophical beliefs, ideals, and even morals, rather than just accepting that which is taught. He/she seeks intuitive answers and finds them deep within him/herself. They can also have the ability to see the broad picture, rather than getting sidetracked in details. They will often find avenues for expansion that others will overlook.

The pluto retrograde is harder to delineate they say because as it is retrograde for half of each year, then half of people born have it.

I would have to say that Jupiter retrograde in Cancer in the 9th, would give you an air of a devi/deva (god/goddess). People would think that you are deeply religious/ritualistic and they would look to you for wisdom. You may even give off an air of subtle disapproval to any digressions on their part - almost as a person with religious authority might.

Pluto retrograde in Scorpio in the first and ruling the Ascendant, would imbue you with a certain powerfulness and intensity. Others may think you are capable of casting a hex over them, or somehow meting out some kind of getting even/or retribution if you see someone has come up short in their behaviour or treatment of you or others.

The goddess Kali/Durga with all the arms is the image I get from the combination of these two significant planets in your chart.
Kali is to do with time, changes and death, and Durga has something similar and is about defeating enemies.

I daresay you are a suspicious person, and you patiently wait out like 'the proof is in the pudding' to do with people or situations showing the truth over time.

I also would imagine that Saturn is interacting with these planets in your chart or is significant in rulership.

It's funny how you have chosen the username that you have as I think it ties in with the Kali/Durga imagery. It might be interesting to see if the asteroid Kali is significant in you chart.

Actually, it's spelt Kaali in the astro.com list of asteroids.

Interestingly, it is transiting my Sun/Mercury in Virgo in my 8th house atm.

Is it possible that the asteroid Kaali is natally in Cancer in your 9th possibly conjunct Jupiter and both in opposition to Saturn in Capricorn in your 3rd.

Thank you so much for your reply. I really appreciate your interpretation.

It's funny because just last night I ended up talking to someone about their life & insecurities. I helped me face a simple one & he told me that I should be a counselor which is a comment I recieve often. As I read the interpretation of Jupiter retrograde I continued to shake my head. I don't see my self as particularly powerful, but I definitely agree with the comment of waiting patiently to see people & situations for what they are. I've been told I have a very uncanny ability to read people or understand them in or first meeting.

Thank you so much for your reply. It gives ame a lot to think about and consider. I relate very much to the Jupiter interpretation, but maybe it is because I don't view myself as what you described in th PLuto retrograde sense.

Are you referring to my username?

It has been my username for everything since I was in high school. It's from the song Show Me How To Live by Audioslave!
