Dear All,unlike the issues I have had so far - love troubles, being jobless for a certain period now I am face in face with a really serious situation. Just how pityful all the rest seems right now! My little brother (24) has days ago been diagnosed with a psihose and last night we met with his doctor and he told us (me&my parents) that it is most certainly a sort of schizophrenia ;(((((. My brother had somewhat strange and unorthodox ideas and behaviour the last three years but we never suspected for a moment it could be a illness causing it. Anyway, I read a ton of articles last night regarding the issue and am terrified by the prospect - they say there is no permament cure, the symphtoms can only be kept under control with drugs which are to be taken permanently. Therefore I want to ask you for some input -I will be extremely very grateful if you could spent some time with whatever gift you have. They are in the hospital with him right now (I will go in the afternoon) and I am trying to stay strong for the four of us but the truth is I am very, very scared . As I am not really sure what info you need I am posting his natal chart and the current transits as a start.

Hi, I am a beginner when it comes to reading charts, but I see your brother has some hard aspects to his Neptune. Neptune is about illusions, fantasies, things that are "other worldly," which could explain his mental state. Speaking as a regular person, I have had experience with close friends who had schizophrenia. I wouldn't view this as a negative thing. In fact, they were some of the most enlightened people I knew. My brother has severe autism, yet he says things that are extremely intuitive, unprejudiced, and not at all what people would normally associate autism with. I believe that these are very special people. IP: Logged |

I am sorry to hear that. Mental illness is very challenging for the patient and the loved ones. It is a lifelong thing. The drugs are better now so he can still make a life for himself if he takes them as prescribed.I agree with previous posters about the challenges to his neptune. I also noticed the challenges from Saturn and Uranus to his chart ruler, Mercury. He just went through a transit of Saturn conjunction to his mercury, and this issue came out in the open. There can be natural alternatives or complements to the pharmaceutical drugs he will have to take, but since this area of natural medicine is not very well known, I hesitate to mention them. Im new at reading charts, but what stands out for me are the t. Pluto on natal Neptune (major transformations of beliefs & dreams), t mars on natal Pluto(action & power outbursts), and transit mercury/sun in 12th (hidden & unconscious self) esp as Mercury rules the chart, coincides w the timing of situation. Also the natal Hard aspects from Neptune to sun/moon, could relate to confusion of reality in terms of how one sees themselves and emotional ups & downs. I'm sorry you are going through this, and hope for a positive outcome for you & your family. As girlinseattle mentioned, we have come far in terms of treatment and management which allows for better outcomes. A family member of mine has been managing schizophrenia for a few years now. While it hasn't been easy, he has been leading a full life w support from family. While there isn't currently a known cure, there are methods & treaments to help manage the episodes of psychosis. What I've learned from my relative & sibling who is a mental health professional, is that acceptance of the patient is very important as is receiving support & information. Empower yourself & him and try to stay positive and not restricted by others negativity and stigma ideas. Mental health illness is as physical ill ess, people w say diabetes also must manage the symptoms for life, and are able to live happy lives. Same applies for mental illness, managing it doesn't eliminate possibility of personal happiness and success. Best wishes IP: Logged |

OK ! Let me know if you are interested in something specific. I wouldn't mind posting it here. Just because these mental ilnessess are surrounded by myths, or are simply not known by most people. Anyway, it would have to be in another part of the forum :-) IP: Logged |

It often improves by the early thirties. You just have to keep him alive, in one piece, and out of serious trouble, and it usually subsides a great deal by around 33 in my experience. I've seen amazing improvement and progress in the man I know. He was in and out of institutions all his life, severely alcoholic and homeless. Now, with help, he is sober, has social security, his own apartment, and is catching up on his life learning to use computers, going out and doing things, trying to get a job. It's an answer to prayer. Keep the faith.IP: Logged |

Flowerpower, I am interested in how you can help the person (exept the medications of course). How should you treat him/her? What is ok to say, what no. Things like this - just your experience with the everyday issues that arise. IP: Logged |
