I work mainly with the Goddess tarot deck and the Hierophant is symbolized as Juno in this deck. For the purposes of this question however (to make it more cut and dry) I will just call the card the Hierophant.

First card: What he thinks of her: The Emperor( I get this part within the context of the question)

2nd Card: What he feels about her: Hierophant
Clarifying #1 Queen of Cups
Clarifying #2 Ten of Swords

I understand the Emperor card in relation to the situation but I was a little unsure of the Hierophant. It seemed to be saying that he felt that they had a spiritual bond but it seemed rather platonic and distant to me somehow. To clarify I pulled the Queen of Cups which is the querent's significator. This could be read as wanting to renew a relationship in a traditional sense (possibly marriage or living arrangement) or it could be read as perhaps feeling smothered by the querent. And since it is her significator I wonder if, connected to the Hierophant this would mean seeing her as she is in a spiritual sense or feeling a sense of nurturing from her on a certain level.

I pulled one last card (bc the significator popping up surprised me a bit) and I got the Ten of Swords and that made things seem a lot clearer - either he is done with her or else the tarot was like Stop asking about the same card! LOL

Any thoughts on the feeling part of the spread? I'm pretty rusty with my cards and want to make sure I'm on the right track here. Any help appreciated

I think I got turned around. The Emperor is how he thinks of her, and the Queen of Cups is the clarification as to why? And the same for Hierophant and the 10 of Swords?

Because if that's the case, to me there is a feeling of admiration and protectiveness, because she is a truly kind soul -- the veritable image of a loving woman. He thinks she is wonderful and sweet.

How he feels though (which is all that matters really) is that there are rules in place and traditions that must be followed for whatever reason (they feel deeply personal to me, really rooted in who he is as a person,) and he has accepted them. The 10 says he has allowed them to defeat whatever feelings he had for her. He's laid them to rest in favor of following rules and keeping things sterile, institutional.

I'd take that as he's made his decision, and it wasn't in her favor :/

Thanks for your response and sorry for any confusion. What he thinks of her came up as The Emperor and I do understand how that relates to this specific situation. I added it mainly for context.

I then asked about how he feels about her and I got the Hierophant which I was not sure how to interpret as a feeling - although what you said about sticking with tradition (and I believe in this case it might be his family if that makes sense?) seems accurate to me. Still, I chose another card (Queen of Cups) and since that is her significator I wondered if I was really getting the message here. 10 of swords seems like yes, he has let her go.

What you said about him accepting those rules feels right to me as well (hierophant + 10 of swords) though I suspect it might be a family-related rules thing but I'm not positive. I also see the hierophant as being sterile as well, though also being about spiritual bonds.

She has been getting some really mixed messages so I was hoping to be able to get some clarity from the cards. Thanks again for your response!

ETA: What's interesting is that had I not grabbed for one more card, I would have left with just the Hierophant and Queen of Cups which is a much lovelier reading. I wonder what made me go back for a second clarifying card.

Also, in my deck, the ten of swords in an upright position is this:Ten swords are interwoven against a cloudy gray sky. These swords symbolize the ability to transform difficult situations into wisdom and action. Meanings: The perfection of understanding. Wisdom gained after struggle. The ending of a difficult situation.

Makes me wonder. Clearly i am having issues with my own intuition.
