I know the date/year, but as far as the time & place, I'm stumped...don't want to ask him yet since we are just getting to know each other...you think it's still fairly accurate? I obviously know all of my details.

I think you should ask him like"I was born in this hospital,in which hospital were you born?" and you will know the city,post his picture we can guess his birth time by guessing the ascendant.

place would be way easier to ask someone than time - in many cases people rarely even known their birth time without contacting a parent to ask. why not just a friendly question like: 'i detect an accent, were you born in the south or something?'; 'are you originally from around here or from someplace else?'; 'how long have you lived in X - were you born here too?' be creative, there are tons of ways to get birth place out of someone without being overly direct :-)
