So. The last few days I have been subjected to this really strange anxiety. I've been extremely anxious and jittery with absolutely no reason for it. It was touch and go for awhile; it would manifest then disappear, but recently it has become pervasive. At first, I thought maybe it was just stress, but after a stint of seriously wonderful R&R, it's still around. I thought -- maybe it's because I'm reading tarot cards? Maybe it's my medication I take for acne? Nothing seems to fit.

I'm just constantly on edge, and I've started to have panic attacks at night. It's not debilitating, more like an annoyance. I want to understand it. So then... I Googled it and the paranormal, because why not. Something came up about anxiety and "shadow people." Now... I don't think I believe in that, but I will say that yesterday, very briefly, I thought I saw something dart by my door in the dark. I rationalized it with my being sleepy, and still rationalize it with my being sleepy, however my question is: has anyone else had this sensation? I have no history of anxiety or panic disorders, I've been on my meds for over two years, so this recent manifestation wouldn't make sense. I can't quite figure out what it is, but even now, sitting here typing this, it's like... bracing for the storm. Couldn't explain it, because it's 10am, I made Chex Mix, and I'm planning on going for a lovely beach walk. Slow and lazy day.

I have sleep paralysis....
Not recently though, but I have had it plague me a lot. There is a scientific explanation for it, but then there is the paranormal explanation.

I have felt as if dark aka shadow people were watching over me as I slept. Sometimes I feel like they are leaning in and examining me. I could sense them and do absolutely nothing to wake up. It is a frightening experience.

I noticed however when my sleep schedule is out of whack, or there are conflicts in my family I generally go through these episodes.

A good sleep schedule, night lights, fresh air, meditation, happy outlook really help me.

Also, when I am afraid I pray. I use this Indian prayer, I suppose you can use any prayer you feel attached to. It helps soothe the nerves. Dont watch weirdo stuff like CSI, ghosts, etc Watch light thing, read light things.

Also, I think someone on this forum told me that just as they are potential spirits with energy....so are we...They have just as much to fear from us as we do them. Dont let anything scare you. My aunt says that if you show fear you attract more bad energy. Fake confidence and strength, at least until it becomes genuine.

Also I have read that tarot reading can attract bad energy even trying to be psychic etc., so maybe you should stop for now.

I sometimes wonder if I am doing the right thing with reading tarots, but then I think I am not using that energy for ill will or power; I am just trying to help out so there is no harm to it and nothing will harm me.

Take care.

Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks so much. Yeah, it's strange. I've never felt "shadow people" or presences before when I slept, but I do become cognizant enough to realize I am in full-blown panic mode for no reason. My dreams have also recently gotten unbelievably vivid. It isn't frightening per se; nothing gets to come in my house and mess with me in a negative way, and I speak that out often. It's my house, you know? I wouldn't let a person do this to me, why would I let... whatever it is? I just know this anxiety and panic is really strange. I think I will stop doing cards for awhile, just to see if it lets up, but at the same time, I'm exactly like you. I do it to help people; very rarely do I ever use it as a predictive medium. I always try to use it as an advice and understanding tool. I'm feeling really drawn to all of it though; then I think, maybe it's an unhealthy energy trying to pull me in. I don't know. I'm probably just going crazy and should see a doctor, haha. Anyway, thank you so much for your input.

Hmm I don't know if this will help or not but I will share my experience and what I do to help.

I like u have had issues with anxiety and I've also been diagnosed by a doctor with panic disorder. I have tried medication over the yrs and yeah it has helped some but I currently don't take any as I hate taking pills. I took pills for depression but the ones I took also helped with anxiety disorders as well. Usually when I get how u r, its usually bc there is some emotion I'm supressing. I have tried this visualization technique I found online and it has helped me some. It goes like this:

Picture a big sun above ur head. This represents ur higher self/oversoul. Now picture in ur mind (clear as day as if all this is really happening) a bright white light radiating from this sun and in ur mind, make it go from ur head slowly down ur body down to ur feet and back up to ur head. I kinda picture myself glowing a white light. Now when this light reaches the top of ur head again, pciture a bunch of black stuff being sucked into the sun above ur head. This represents anything negative, which includes anxiety or any fears.

I have also read abt tarot cards attracting negative things....I started getting into reading for ppl on here til my 15 yr old son said he saw a black shadow in his rm that moved in an unnatural way across his bedrm floor and it ran into the bathrm down the hall. So I've stopped doing as many readings. I've let it b known nothing is permitted into my house unless its a being of light. Sprinkled salt at the base of my exterior doors.

Is there any kind of unhappiness u r supressing abt anything? Even if u may not realize it?

Hope this helps my dear

Dark shadow people would pertain more to negativity in your life in general. When it comes to sleep paralysis(I've had violent episodes involving shadow people, as nutty as that sounds), concentrating your willpower is the way to go. So, it could be concentrating on wiggling your big toe or even constantly repeating a passage(I chose the Lord's Prayer) to where you pull your mind and thoughts together. I've done both of these and they have worked.

Also, these situations happened before I started reading tarot again(hadn't read tarot in four years when it started). However, if you feel iffy about anything you're doing, tarot included, stop doing it.

I recommend that if there is a stressful or negative situation going on in your house that you work to clear it out by making peace with that person or situation. Take the time to bring more positive feeling in your life through meditation as well as clearing out your area, both physically and spiritually.

Yeah, the panic attack in the sleep definitely stopped, and I somehow managed to "sleep through it" in some ways. I don't know. The stress and feelings that are maybe unconscious or whatnot... that's a possibility. I internalize a lot. I am gonna stop reading for awhile, just because I don't want to (if it is something... which I don't think it is) give it a leg to stand on sotospeak. I'm authoritative too, if I feel weird or anxious. That's what's been so awful is the permanent anxiousness. Like when you are waiting for someone to walk through the front door.. just counting the minutes till they come in. It's like that, only less exciting.

Thanks so much for your support, you guys. I really appreciate it. I believe strongly in everything happening for a reason, and this to is no different. I just don't want to get blindsided and caught up in something that's not so great.

Sorry I can't be as much help but, I just wanted to say I experienced the same things over the past two nights.

With the dark figures (but in the dream I prayed them away)

And an incredibly vivid dream chock full of symbolism...

They say tarot cards don't attract "energy", but maybe it is a thing with those who are sensitive to such energies, and the tarot being used as a guide (and you can correct me, I am merely a newbie) can open you up to energy. Whether it is in the spirit of good or evil, I dunno.

But I wasn't using cards when I had the "shadow figures" dream, but after using my brand new rider-waite deck today, I had a really weird dream.

Just wanted to tell you that you weren't alone. It can be negative feelings locked away in the subconscious. I mean that's basically what dreams are.

I think if you're afraid of tarot attracting negative things, you should stop reading simply for the fact that it generates some form of anxiety for the reader to believe that yet still handle the deck. Why do something that you have doubts with and weakens your resolve? Not saying give up, but it's important you don't give power to your fears or do something that part of you is uncomfortable with. Consider it a time to center yourself while you re-think the reasons of why you choose to do certain things.

For self, I believe tarot is merely a tool for interpreting energy. If at any time I feel uncomfortable with them, I give myself a sabbatical from the cards and reconsider where their place is in my life.

I'm sensitive to energy to begin with and when I'm super stressed or in an inharmonious environment, the shadow things have a way of showing up more. I think they're attracted to negative emotions and are like residue or sludge from it being built up. Think of it like the scum that builds up in sinks, showers, toliets, etc when they haven't been cleaned in a while. Without regular maintenance, these weird things show up.

Becca, it may be time to find some better outlets for your anxiety, rather than keeping it internalized. With my ex, when I was finally resolute to get rid of shadow presence, I asked him to help me by being supportive. I eventually imagined he and I being the two posts of the house with a golden rope that connected us. As I imagined it spreading outwards, I prayed that those that would harm us in any form not be allowed to pass into our house.

As for dreams and such, it sounds plausible. I feel like maybe the "tools" should be "cleansed" of other energies. I'm guessing that might be the case, even if they were brand new. Might have emotional or spiritual residue from others being near the deck or handling the box before being purchased. Lots of guessing with that on my end lol.

I had a similar experience and was advised by a friend to build a grid by putting a piece of selenite in each corner of my room. It really helped. Also when things happen in my sleep I have a tendency to pry sub-consciously and it helps.
You could use black tourmaline as well but it will block all energy. Selenite recharges itself and expels bad energy. You could even put a piece of it on your tarot deck which helped me with mine. I left it on there for about 5 minutes and then when I picked up them they made my hand tingle, like a small electrical current.
It could help. Try it.

Hm, maybe not much help, but maybe it was the impending storm, i.e. Hurricane Sandy (sidenote: funny you mentioned "bracing for the storm"). On Oct. 28, and 29 I had some crazy dreams about storms coming in. I had heard a bit about the impending hurricane about a week before, but didn't realize how serious it was going to be until the 29th. I was just thinking maybe it's created a "disturbance in the force", so to speak.
I'm pretty sure you're clairvoyant, because you gave me a pretty amazing tarot reading back in May. Not to be stalker-y, but it was such an amazing reading that really instilled alot of hope in me at the time, hope for things that I almost didn't really believe could happen, and they did!
Sorry to hear about your troubles.

I'm really glad to hear that the reading rang true for you; I always wonder about that, and I really appreciate the compliment! I try hard to make sure everything is easy to understand and as close to my feelings as I can get.

I don't know about the clairvoyant thing though. Hahaha, for all my love of the paranormal and supernatural, I still don't know if I believe in psychics and things like that. I went to the doctor for a flu shot, and I just mentioned that I'd been anxious lately and had pervasive headaches, and she let me know my heart rate was up to 115, when a usual resting rate is 70-100. That was up for me and my blood pressure (though it was still normal) from my last visit. I have to go back Thursday to see if maybe there's a medical issue or whatnot. We'll see. I really appreciate everyone's support though and ideas! I'm going to try some of them to be sure

I love this forum <3 <3 <3
