Hi,I've just had my natal and Vedic chart done by an astrologer who came highly recommended (and seemed very good to me - lots of very accurate stuff). My question is: For years I have felt (at times very strongly) that I may have been abused as a child. I have had life-long mental health problems. I should add that the idea of being abused in childhood was suggested to me by a therapist back in 1990. The astrologer found no sign of abuse. Childhood trauma - yes - but not abuse. She said that I have inherited my mental illness. Nature much more than nurture. I am more than happy to believe this, but I'm wondering, is it possible for abuse not to show up on these charts?
I'd like to put this to rest, and I guess I'm just trying to consider all possibilities. Thank you for your time,

You could've been mentally abused. Your moon is opp Uranus which points to the mother being very extreme in her affections for you. One day she loves you the next she hates you. IP: Logged |

Moon conjunct chiron opposite Uranus is karmic because of chiron, which also square venus. So I would say that there is a karmic element to this, but I don't know how to read the details of the karma. With chiron the key is to heal through pain, which when you really think about it, sucks. What you need to do is understand what has caused you pain and some how let it go. Easier said than done. As for sexual abuse...I've never really looked for this in a chart..but I'll try. Ruler of your 8th house is sun conjunct mars squared by Neptune. So there is some ambiguity regarding sex. Perhaps there was never a clear definition of what was ok and what wasn't, or that sexual fantasies skewed what was really going on since sexual expression was repressed. Maybe catholic school? 9th house rules institutions. I may be going out on a limb here but was sex something that was taught in a school rather than your parents talking to you about it? Pluto isn't afflicted but it is in the 9th house as well which points to a study of things others may avoid because they are too 'dark'. You have a willingness to bring these issues to light and expose them. I'm not sure how much this relates to you but I hope I've helped. IP: Logged |

Thank you littlecloud, I really appreciate your time.Yes, my mother especially is repressed and uptight when it comes to sex. I had sex ed at school like you say, and that's where I got all my information.
My sister and I were both well and truly shamed (by my parents) when we became sexually active. With my brother though, they just looked the other way.
Still makes me mad. Do you know - if there WAS sexual abuse, would you definitely expect it to show up on the natal chart? I really don't know much about astrology. Thanks again,

It would show up in the natal, I'm just not sure how to see it. Sometimes I can tell when there is a perversion of sorts, like if you use sex to release your anger and frustration usually through abusive gestures such as choking your partner. If you were both shamed by your parents I can see how that is a form of abuse, especially when they looked the other way with your brother. Also shame is greatly dependent on culture and cultural views, which can many times make it a lot worse. If it's alright with you, can you give a couple of examples? Posting your sister's and brothers chart can help point out similarities and differences between the three of you in how you were parented. IP: Logged |

This is really interesting. I certainly think that shaming teenagers for their sexuality is emotional abuse, but it's definitely not sexual abuse in the way I'm thinking.
I'm interested because, as I've said, I've suffered from mental illness since I was 13 and I've been obsessed for all of my adult life with figuring out why I'm so screwed up.
When I was 19, in 1990 (the midst of the sexual abuse / repressed memories furor), a psychiatrist suggested to me that I'd been abused as a child.
I have no real memory of sexual abuse & this has been driving me mad for years. (If anything happened, I thought the abuser would've been my paternal grandmother)If I can leave this behind - if my astrologer is right and my illness is inherited genetically, it might be quite a freeing, wonderful thing.

I can't say for certain if you been sexually abused the closest thing I can think of as actual proof is using hypnosis, and even that is scoffed at by people.IP: Logged |

No, I know you can't. I guess I'm just trying to gauge the reliability of the natal chart as I don't know much about astrology. I think hypnosis can be a bit dangerous when it comes to memories. Don't know. Thanks,
